to think that 16 weeks is not 4 months!

Friend writes on FB "I can't believe DS is 4 months already". He's not, he's 16 weeks. He'll be 4 months on the 25th. If you carry on like that, they'd be having their first birthday a month early!

Ffion but what we're all saying is that it's near enough, so what is the problem? There's literally 3 days in the example you have given - which is close enough Hmm

RichardBucket · 15/08/2016 18:07

Ffion3107 People understand the OP. They just think the difference is insignificant, which it is.

Ffion3107 · 15/08/2016 18:08

The problem is that it is not correct to say that a 16 weeks old is 4 months old.
Yes 3 days, so over 16 weeks it's around 12 days. Which is nearly 2 weeks off being 4 months.

Farfromtheusual · 15/08/2016 18:18

As RichardBucket said, its insignificant.

No one actually cares if it's 100% accurate to the exact day and who has enough time on their hands to sit and work it out anyway? (especially for someone else's kid)

dynevoran · 15/08/2016 18:22

I find it hilarious that people think other people care how old their kids precisely are. They don't seem to get that people just want the gist: after 3 months I always round to the nearest 6 months and assume anyone else would do the same.

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 15/08/2016 18:42

Butter I don't feel so bad now. DD is my PFB so I thought I may get the terrible mother award for not knowing the weeks Grin

Wondermoomin · 15/08/2016 19:03

Yabvvu. I can't believe pickiness of this scale exists Shock

Meadows76 · 15/08/2016 19:37

It annoys me, well nto so much annoy but it does make me think the person is lacking in intelligence. It's one thing counting in weeks when they reach the months, but to count in months when they are not even that many months yet is just plain silly

bibbitybobbityyhat · 15/08/2016 20:08

Laughing at Ffion for being so fucking far off the mark! Grin Grin Grin

bibbitybobbityyhat · 15/08/2016 20:16

I'm 646 months and 17 days old. Or would "nearly 54" be ok with you?

Crunchymum · 15/08/2016 20:23

Weeks are just a habit from pregnancy (counted in weeks) and obviously the immunisations are given at xyz weeks too.

Months are handy as a "one year old" can be anything from 12m to 23m? Although I tended to say just gone one / one and a half / nearly two as well as give the number of months

maldini · 15/08/2016 20:27

Who fucking cares

ohohohitsmagic · 15/08/2016 20:32

YANBU. for the myriad of reasons set out above. If you are 35 in two weeks you can't say I am 35 because you aren't. You can say nearly. if someone asks you how old your kid is and you can't be bothered, say four months by all means but don't go about announcing it.

Sooverthis · 15/08/2016 20:51

Ffion bang on the mark rather

Hulababy · 15/08/2016 21:08

Apparently I am:
523 months old
or 2276 weeks old
or 15932 days old
or 382368 hours old

Sounds a bit younger than 43 years anyway so I may stick with it!

Hulababy · 15/08/2016 21:11

16 weeks is approximately 4 months. Yes its a few days out but does it really matter???

I am sure I probably did the whole weeks thing when dd was tiny and I am sure it was probably annoying to others without babies back then too. However I am pretty sure I moved onto rough months shortly after and once over a year old I am sure I went with years or rough approximates.

EnoughAlready999 · 15/08/2016 21:36

Quite amusing to see how annoyed you have all got about this!

I don't really understand the point you are trying to make by saying you're 20000 days old etc. My point is that my friend has deliberately announced on FB that her DS is 4 months old when he isn't. As for those of you who say I have too much time on my hands, hardly - it took about 5 seconds to count from 25th April to 25th August and realise that that it is not that date today.

OP posts:
APocketfulOfStars · 15/08/2016 21:47

YANBU.

my DS is 4months + 3 days. But I say 4 months/ just gone 4 months. He's not 16 weeks. He's 18weeks tomorrow. At 16 weeks I said he was 3.5 months.

I tend to go by the dates rather than the weeks. So, on the date of birth of each month (roughly mid month), I say he's X months. At the end/start of a month he's X.5 months

bibbitybobbityyhat · 15/08/2016 21:57

And in a few years time you will have forgotten all about this utter utter nonsense.

APocketfulOfStars · 15/08/2016 22:32

bibbity very true! But at the moment, my DS reaching each month is very important and therefore at the front of my mind Grin

Plus, I am weird in that I count days/weeks constantly. It's a running joke at work that Pocketful will always know exactly how many working days until the next holiday. So situations like the OPs irritate me as they just don't 'add up'.

EnoughAlready999 · 15/08/2016 23:29

My friend responded saying that she doesn't think in weeks as it's annoying and that people generally think of a month as 4 weeks. She obviously DOES think in weeks otherwise how did she come up with 4 months?! I am starting to think it's lack of intelligence even though she is a HCP. Now I am worried she will be starting solids early.

OP posts:
passingthrough1 · 16/08/2016 04:55

Ok maybe I'm the weird one because I totally get where you're coming from.
But yes totally I'd refer anything from about 3 to 5 weeks as "about a month" if people asked, it's the announcing bit that seems strange and also just completely wrong. But as I said, people do this in pregnancy too and is utterly infuriating.

Motherfuckers · 16/08/2016 05:55

How would they be celebrating their birthday a month early? I thought you said a month is NOT 4 weeks?

MapleandPear · 16/08/2016 06:04

It's just someone rounding up a bit. People tend to talk in months rather than weeks after 12 weeks or so, unless they need to be more precise. If she celebrates his birthday several weeks early due to miscounting then please do come back and start another discussion.

This one is just pointless pedantry. Biscuit

Motherfuckers · 16/08/2016 06:09

Ah it makes sense that she is a HCP, yes they do tend to go by weeks (and count 4 weeks as a month) I don't think it shows a lack of intelligence on her part...
