PLEASE kindly refrain from naming an innocent child Ptolemy. Even the most difficult, painful, vomit-inducing pregnancy doesn't deserve that.

How about Sphinctus?

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 14/08/2016 12:08

Or Wellington

Orinoco

or

Bulgaria?

Mouthfulofquiz · 14/08/2016 12:11

Ha! All three of my boy's first and middle names are in this thread! Grin

LoloKazoloh · 14/08/2016 12:13

(I think people are having a bit of a giggle, ComedyWing.)

But Kemys (pron. Caims) is genuinely the poshest name I know in real life, which amuses me as it's a dreaded K-name! MN abhors a K name.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 14/08/2016 12:14

Ptolemy for an English Bulldog?

witchywoohoo · 14/08/2016 12:24

Hamish and Rory are very run of the mill Scottish names - really not "posh".

witchywoohoo · 14/08/2016 12:25

...and wasn't Pongo one of the dogs in 101 Dalmations??

Vixxfacee · 14/08/2016 12:32

Almost every single name mentioned is dire and only fit for a pet..

SlinkyVagabond · 14/08/2016 12:33

Boom! All three of my boys are here.
Apologies if it's been mentioned but How about StJohn (sinjen) that's proper posh.

Hoppinggreen · 14/08/2016 12:46

I know an Atticus - his parents are vair posh

hazeimcgee · 14/08/2016 12:53

Slinky why would you bestow a lifetime of correcting the pronunciation on a child for a name like that? As well as "why did your mom call you Saint John??" There's some lovely names on this list but def not this one

PedantPending · 14/08/2016 13:01

I forgot
Gerald
Corbian

Loopy567 · 14/08/2016 14:11

Rufus?

Shockers · 14/08/2016 14:24

Fellatio ShockGrinGrin

Alleycat1 · 14/08/2016 14:31

Why not resurrect one of the splendid old Saxon names? Several internet sites to help. E.g. Boniface Bentley, Wulfric, Thane, Ethelwulf, Ranulf, Osbert, Leofric (shortened to Leo) - best steer clear of Baeldric though!

Daisymaybe60 · 14/08/2016 14:33

The only one of my grandsons that hasn't appeared on this list is Ted. A good, solid very un-posh name. Though I'm told he was very nearly called Theodore. Smile

Sophie0 · 14/08/2016 14:36

Why do you need a "snobby" or posh name for your child? Do you think that it'll make you a cut above the rest?

Marysunshine · 14/08/2016 14:45

Marmaduke

Busydays13 · 14/08/2016 14:47

Alexander- always a winner - full length it sounds posh - shortened to Alex- it sounds cool - the name of the life and soul of the party.......

Bluechip · 14/08/2016 14:48

Henry/Harry is not a posh name ask my working class miner grandad

Tarquin
Rupert
Peregrine
Evelyn
Auberon
Beau

Kitten3 · 14/08/2016 14:49

We have Isambard on our list. Mainly because of his contribution towards engineering.

I am worried though that other kids might take the piss because anything different gets a ribbing.

Kitten3 · 14/08/2016 14:53

Oh bloody hell. Just saw the name Evelyn above- that's a boys name??!
My friend had a baby and I assumed it was a girls name and congratulated her on such a lovely name..... What an idiot.

isitseptemberyet · 14/08/2016 14:54

lol SophieO- i didnt say in my original post that i NEED a posh name with the implication being that i thought it would make me better than others !
when we have been making lists of names we like people have commented that they sound posh, or when ive looked through online name threads and found ones i like they are mainly from posts entitled things like 'tell me all your posho names' etc !
It's nothing to do with being a 'cut above the rest' , i think everyone has a style of name they like when thinking about naming their children, which often changes over time, i wouldn't use my 1st sons name now, ten years on.

Felix

Fabien

Lucien

Crispin

Quentin

Gideon

Cuthbert

StJohn is the ultimate posh name in my opinion
