beans mash and sausages is a healthy meal

Mother in law thinks its junk food. But the beans contain 1 of your 5 a day, mashed potatoes are just veg and a good source of carbs and the sausages are full of essential protein.

We often have ketchup, this has been shown to reduce many cancers like prostate, and a glass of juice.

Seems healthy to me and not junky.

angelos How about a deluxe bacon triple cheese burger, large fries, onion rings served with an entire jar of mayo, followed by treacle tart and cream?

I have never read a definition of obesity, certainly not in adults, which means 'can't see ribs'. (I am aware you're supposed to be able to see kids' ribs, though actually I can't find a proper definition of that either.)

And really, you need to get out more. Possibly to a nice restaurant.

BitOutOfPractice · 08/08/2016 17:32

Angelos that is a ludicrous statement

Bogeyface · 08/08/2016 17:34

I have had a think about the Hula Hoop issue and am prepared to admit that I am wrong. Chicken Hula Hoops do have their place in a balanced diet. Obviously Cheese and Onion flavour cover the diary and veg angle, Beef for protein and iron, salt and vinegar for.....salt and vinegar and chicken also for protein but also for avoiding too much red meat. And plain of course, for the 2 to 3 days a week when we should abstain.

Just been to buy our sausages for tonights dinner, pork and apple. I also chucked in some chicken ones to try and although the pack size looks the same and the price is the same there are only 6 compared to 8 in the pork packs. How is chicken more expensive than pork?! Tesco are scamming bastards and I dont care how nice they may be, I wont be buying them again!

Hulababy · 08/08/2016 17:34

Am tempted to encourage a mass nationwide eating of sausage and mash one day this week. I don't even eat meat but feel some of the comments on this thread merit it!

Angeles Grin you don't know much about food or obesity

FFS Miss! I am starving, I could just go all of that :o

DirtyPlacemarker · 08/08/2016 17:36

OTOH, good quality sausages, sweet potato mash and lower sugar beans, while not exactly healthy, is an OK meal.

^^ What fresh hell is this!? Wink Grin

Craigie · 08/08/2016 17:37

Oh, it's not great TBH. The beans will probably be full of salt & sugar, and most sausages are fatty & full of salt. As an occasional meal it's okay (who doesn't like a good sausage), but I wouldn't call it a particularly healthy meal. Sorry.

In fact I think it's rather alarming if you're thinking "I can't see your/my ribs...OBESITY". It is possible to be non-skinny and not obese. Even - gasp - a bit overweight and not obese.

MrsKoala · 08/08/2016 17:43

Does anyone else remember the the thread when someone said they gave their kids weetabix for breakfast and someone said that it 'was just shit in a box' ? I regularly burst out laughing in the cereal aisle and get Hmm looks.

MrsJayy · 08/08/2016 17:44

You cant see my ribs im 7.8 stones not seeing ribs is not obese dont be ridiculous next we will be talking the thigh gap( btw im on weight im under5ft )

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 08/08/2016 17:44

I read that thread. Someone said Weetabix was a 'treat' that they'd give their kids once in a blue moon!

MrsJayy · 08/08/2016 17:45

I can't think of any more unhealthy meals than that you describe OP. Remember that obesity means not being able to see ribs...especially in children.

Ha ha ha ha! Really, none?!
I could think of plenty.

FWIW I can see the ribs of my teen DD, and pretty much all of her friends - they are often on show in their little crop tops.
I can see the ribs of my two younger nieces.
I can see the ribs of my 3y nephew.

Yes all of them eat a normal balanced diet over time. They eat a mixture of types of foods and this includes sausage and mash, ice creams, fruit juice, fizzy pop (bar the youngest), chocolate and sweets, burgers as well as fruit, vegetables and non processed meats, etc. No need for faddy ideas and banning of food items (made up by the latest fad obsessed nutritionist) round here.

FWIW DH and DD prefer the cheaper sausages - they don't like the higher meat content type ones often. Weird I know. So they don't have them often as the ones they like are highly processed and full of goodness knows what. But hey - they like them. I don't eat meat so don't eat them - instead I dare to take my chances with the evil known as quorn at times.

And when I was growing up fruit juice wasn't limited because it was too sugary. It was limited as it was too expensive!

Salmotrutta · 08/08/2016 17:54

Well thank very much you MrsKoala (channels Margot Leadbetter) now I will also probably burst out laughing when I spot "Shit in a Box" in the supermarket Hmm

Exh and I once took my 15 year old exbil out for cinema and dinner. ExMil came to pick him up and she asked him in front of ex and me what he had eaten and he answered 'franky and bennies, for a burger and chips' and mil snapped 'SHE might as well have just given you dog food' which was utterly hilarious. Quite why this was my crime and not her pfb, I am unsure. People really have lost the plot when it come to food.

HormonalHeap · 08/08/2016 18:03

Not sure how processed meat can be described healthy in any way

Salmotrutta · 08/08/2016 18:03

Well obviously her pfb would never have thought of going to Frankie and Benny's with out your terrible influence MrsK Sad

Dontyoulovecalpol · 08/08/2016 18:10

Also I wonder on these threads do people realise that the ingredients list on a product will tell you exactly what's in it horsemeataside

People regularly say "God knows what's in it" or "its full of crap" "I don't trust aspartame" and I go on my Little ocado app and lo and behold the ingredients list shows nothing of the sort!

Noonesfool · 08/08/2016 18:12

I remember the "shit in a box" comment 😂😂
