beans mash and sausages is a healthy meal

Mother in law thinks its junk food. But the beans contain 1 of your 5 a day, mashed potatoes are just veg and a good source of carbs and the sausages are full of essential protein.

We often have ketchup, this has been shown to reduce many cancers like prostate, and a glass of juice.

Seems healthy to me and not junky.

on toasted tiger bread.

Bogeyface · 08/08/2016 15:35

Salmon that is fucking disgusting! Do you have any IDEA what you are putting into your body with that crap?!

Every one knows that you should only eat beef flavoured Hula Hoops, you fool! :o

motherinferior · 08/08/2016 15:35

These threads always make me want to go through our fridge, find every item of vegetable origin, and bin it. And then live on Bombay mix and gin.

Actually my kids and their dad are away this week. I might do just that tonight. Envy me, envy me, my artery-hardening friends.

Salmotrutta · 08/08/2016 15:37

But I didn't know that Bogey Sad

Will the Po-Faced People be angry with me?

MrsJayy · 08/08/2016 15:37

WAIT back up you get chicken hulahoops why do i not know this

Salmotrutta · 08/08/2016 15:39

Oh YY MrsJayy.

But Bogey doesn't approve.

MrsKoala · 08/08/2016 15:39

I'd dance and cry with happiness if my dc would eat sausage, mash and beans for dinner. Even if ds1 ate it everyday it would be an improvement.

You don't realise how much you take those kinds of foods for granted till you have a child who severely restricts their diet.

Ds1 probably eats sausages or processed food every single day, sometimes for every meal. (He wouldn't eat mash or beans, or any other variation of veg, or fruit or dairy). He is healthy and growing like you wouldn't believe tho, so it's amazing what the body can survive on.

MrsJayy · 08/08/2016 15:43

Meh who cares what Bogey thinks tell me where you got chicken hulahoopssalmotrurra

OhSoggyBiscuit · 08/08/2016 15:49

Now I'm really craving sausage and mash!!!!

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 08/08/2016 15:50

You need fried onions on top of the mash.

TBH, my boys will always eat sausage, mash, beans and onions. They will more often than not eat vegetable stir fry too,. But sometimes they wont. If they've had a rubbish few days of eating not much, I'd much rather they had a dinner that they will ask seconds on than push a plate of salad around and then ask for sweet stuff.

(I thought spuds had lots of vit c in them so they are better than white bread.)

Salmotrutta · 08/08/2016 15:53

They were in a hula hoop multipack MrsJayy - think it was maybe Asda or Tesco Grin

BigSandyBalls2015 · 08/08/2016 15:54

Jesus!! This thread is unreal .... there are some seriously uptight people out there.

Do you know what jumped out at me .... "an apple is surprisingly filling" ..... not quite as filling as a doughnut or cheese on toast though eh.

splendide · 08/08/2016 16:15

I think this thread has been good for me, i am very uptight about what I give DS and genuinely do feel guilty because he eats too many apples. I probably need to unclench a bit.

I remember a health visitor saying that if I was the sort of person to be worrying about the salt content in bread then DS would be fine (salt wise anyway).

In what way do you feel guilty?

EarSlaps · 08/08/2016 16:51

This article is very interesting and agrees with Mrs De Vere's point about food being a class issue.

OlennasWimple · 08/08/2016 16:54

Of course food is a class issue - how could it not be? Confused

angelos02 · 08/08/2016 16:57

I can't think of any more unhealthy meals than that you describe OP. Remember that obesity means not being able to see ribs...especially in children.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 08/08/2016 16:58

You really can't think of anything more unhealthy than sausage, mash and bean? Nothing at all, even if you try really hard?

Are you stupid or unimaginative?

CremeEggThief · 08/08/2016 16:59

Angelos02, there are FAR more unhealthy meals around than bangers and mash, FGS. Confused

BitOutOfPractice · 08/08/2016 17:03

I nearly ended it with my DP told me he had bought low sugar / salt beans. It was like I didn't know him

A bag of monster munch and a can of red bull? A large bag of butter kits? (What some of the kids I used to teach used to have as a packed lunch)

Or a bag of haribo and a fruit shoot? What another severe food restricter I know eats.

LaurieMarlow · 08/08/2016 17:05

Angeles, that's utter rubbish and you know it.

Also, the meal described by OP is not massively high in calories compared to pizza/chips/burgers/various other fried options.

MrsKoala · 08/08/2016 17:05

Butter kits? Sorry I meant butterkist popcorn.
