Did anyone watch the Father Ted episode with the sarcastic priest who was an side of Bishop Brennan? He (sarcastic priest) comes to a sticky end in Father Jack's bedroom.

Well, DS (age 9) has started to do that silky sarcastic "it was a JOKE! " thing. Eg today "Did you enjoy the film?" "NO.It was the worst film I've ever seen. In a scale of 1-10 it would be -2." Me: "That cost £27 on tickets and another £10 on sweets so that's the last time I take you to the cinema.DS: " I WAS JOKING! !!!"

Quickly followed by a lecture about how it wasn't funny & he needs to stop this asap otherwise he'll become very unpopular at school.

So I have him so lunch and DH said something to which the answer should have been yes but DS said NO in that sarcastic sullen way he has, so I sent him to his bedroom as a living example of Pavlov's Dogs.

Have I been too hard on him?

I am of middling age - not young but not old enough to mother an 18 year old (unless I had a very misspent youth, which I sort of did). Maybe an older cousin or young auntie?

In fact, my instincts say that we shouldn't broach it with her.

I think your DS will grow out of it quite quickly TBH. Mind you, there is no harm in saying that you will take him at his word and he can face the consequences of that.

You could also remind your son that Bishop Brennan gets kicked up the arse in another episode. So he's not someone to follow as the sarcastic aide did.
