crying babies on buses

I know IABU but I HATE it. I dislike buses at the best of times but it drives me mad to be basically stuck in a small space with a crying child

The babies on the bus go waah waah waah, all day long.

Didn't you learn that as a toddler?

ApocalypseNowt · 04/08/2016 20:01

I don't like goady fuckers on mn. Seems there's a lot more of them about than crying babies on buses....

NeedACleverNN · 04/08/2016 20:03

Are you sure there's no off switch MyCat

I've looked everywhere on but there must be one! I mean babies are not allowed to cry on buses so there must be one somewhere

Can't say crying babies have ever bothered me on the few times I've taken the bus. But I hate bodily noises such as chewing. So I just took my ipod. No problem to be had then.

Walk instead

MatildaTheCat · 04/08/2016 20:08

My SIL got off a bus with her three week baby and walked four miles home because the crying was upsetting her fellow travellers. Nice.

ladydepp · 04/08/2016 20:08

My 1.5yo cried for most of a 2.5 hr flight. Some idiot turned around at one point to say "can't you make it shut up". DH's response was priceless. My 2yo learned some very special new vocabulary that day WinkBlush

On the return flight he slept the whole way and an older lady next to us told me "he's such a good baby!". Grin

The OP reminds me of some bonkers bus-obsessed Twitter lunatic that I regrettably got into a debate re: ALL BUGGY PUSHERS SHOULD BE MADE TO
FOLD THEM ON THE BUS BY LAW.

Yep; I can do that in the flick of a wrist whilst holding my wriggly baby and retaining perfect balance as the driver takes off at 40mph.

maddiemookins16mum · 04/08/2016 20:14

Goodness, I feel really sorry for mums with crying babies on buses, they are usually packed so it's nigh on impossible to get them out and rock them or even jostle the buggy. I find people yapping onbtheir phones or loudly playing their ipods more annoying. I got off a bus once and walked home three miles in light drizzle because Maddiemoo (aged 7 months roughly was screaming so badly). Best thing I did, she slept all the way!!

Nannawifeofbaldr · 04/08/2016 20:17

I'm not sure what you were expecting from this thread OP?

No one likes to hear a distressed baby, but it's part of life.

Were you looking for a magic solution, or just whining?

Nanunanu · 04/08/2016 20:17

Yup I hate it too. Whether it's mine or someone else's. Of course we are hardwired to hate it. Evolutionarily speaking.

Still horrible

I don't think you deserve the hard time you are getting oh here though. It's not like you went up to the parents and told them to shut it up. A moan is fine

Bahhhhhumbug · 04/08/2016 20:20

I have a theory that the sound of a baby crying is geared to be hard to tolerate or annoying to even the best of us at times but in any event very hard to ignore. I read something that backed this up somewhere saying it is a primal thing and mother Nature's way of making sure babies are cared for by their mother or people around. i suppose if a ravenously hungry or a baby in pain or distress just lay there making little gurgling ,chuckling noises then our ancestors would never have intervened and there wouldnt be many of us here today !
