To be hacked off with lodger?

winkywinkola · 04/08/2016 06:25

So we're on holiday right now. Ten days left.

We arranged with our lodger to feed our cats and let out and lock up our chickens every day.

He's just paid his rent into my account less the sum we agreed to pay him for this chores.

Aibu to be really cheesed off about this? He hasn't completed the work and rent and payment for this work are two separate issues.

I agree with PP if you bring this up with him he is unlikely to help you in the future. What exactly is then problem? He's saving you a job.

FiveFullFathoms · 04/08/2016 13:50

I really don't see the problem.

He's doing the job satisfactorily as far as you're aware (not that you can really check up) and you state you would have paid him immediately upon your return. So what difference does it make? Confused You're being very petty.

YelloDraw · 04/08/2016 13:50

OP probably just has control issues. Lodger didn't do something exactly as she wanted him to do, even though she didn't tell him in advance.

SomeDaysIDontGiveAMonkeys · 04/08/2016 13:55

I'd let it go tbh and enjoy your holiday. We have lodgers and I think its important to choose your battles.

AndNowItsSeven · 04/08/2016 13:57

Yabu and ridiculous, it was rude if you not to leave the money in an envelope before you left.

PterodactylToenails · 04/08/2016 14:00

It wouldn't bother me, if he deducted it from his rent it would probably make it easier for me tbh, one less thing for me to sort out when I got back.

c3pu · 04/08/2016 14:03

Swings and roundabouts IMO.

Chillax, it's a storm in a teacup.

sirfredfredgeorge · 04/08/2016 14:04

Why would I pay him before he's done the work?

Why would he pay rent before he's stayed there the month?

snowgirl1 · 04/08/2016 14:18

I always pay our cat sitter upfront.

expatinscotland · 04/08/2016 14:30

Really don't see the problem with this. Silly thing to get het up about whilst on holiday. YABU.

VaginaJones · 04/08/2016 15:12

You expect your rent to be paid upfront by your lodger. So I can't see why you think it's ok to pay him in arrears without discussing it beforehand?

JohnLithgowsLargeForehead · 04/08/2016 15:25

Don't see the problem at all, surely this is the easiest way of doing it rather than seperate payments.

ifyoulikepinacolada · 04/08/2016 15:33

Yabu. Why is it ok for him to pay rent upfront but not for him to be paid upfront?! Total double standards, surely?

trinity0097 · 04/08/2016 16:11

I wouldn't have a problem with this. In fact I would have paid him before I left for my holiday so it would have been a non-issue.

It's quite a bind having to care for chickens that aren't yours - we used to do it for my PILs when they were away when we lived closer. Really limited your options when you had to work around chicken bedtimes!

winkywinkola · 16/08/2016 16:34

So we're going home on Thursday.

Just been what's app'd by my other lodger with pics that my animal caring/plant watering lodger has done a flit!

His room is empty and he's cleared out all the cupboards he was using in the kitchen.

Can't believe it!

My other lodger is about to go on holiday himself tonight so that's two days my animals aren't cared for not my plants watered.

FFS.

OP posts:
witsender · 16/08/2016 16:36

Well, at least your rent is up to date.

YelloDraw · 16/08/2016 16:37

Oh FFS indeed - so you were right all along and we were all mean.

Appologies.

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 16/08/2016 16:42

use the excess rent he has paid then to contact a local house sitter or is there no one else family/friends who can help?

winkywinkola · 16/08/2016 16:45

I don't care about the rent I care about my pets. I am so upset.

OP posts:
witsender · 16/08/2016 16:46

Get the lodger to leave a load of food for the cats and the chooks will look after themselves for a couple of days if their food is topped up.

winkywinkola · 16/08/2016 16:48

I hope my girls were locked up or Mr Fox will have a rip roaring time!

H and I have called and texted him and no response.

I can't get hold of my current offer to ask about keys etc so I can arrange alternative help.

Next time I will definitely stick to the professionals. I paid him £25 per day to feed my cats, dogs, chickens and to walk the dogs for 40 mins.

OP posts:
Rattusn · 16/08/2016 17:59

While him running off without saying anything isn't nice, you do sound rather petty.

If you are generally so petty, maybe he had had enough?

foursillybeans · 16/08/2016 18:01

Would not bother me either.

fastdaytears · 16/08/2016 18:03

WHAT?

I was going to say YWBU but Angry at the update. Who does that?

Presumably he's paid now for a month's rent he won't be using?

fastdaytears · 16/08/2016 18:04

I really hope all the animals are ok
