AIBU to think wall hung toilets have no place in a public toilet

Been to the cinema today. It's just been refitted and all of the toilets are wall hung

I'm sure they can take plenty of weight but I don't trust them -especially considering the volume of traffic -so to speak

AIBU to think toilets that are used with such frequency should be solid, sturdy and with a pedestal?

Totally read that as well hung toilets...

acasualobserver · 03/08/2016 21:05

What is a wall hung toilet? (Apologies is this is something that actually everyone knows.)

Emochild · 03/08/2016 21:06

It's a toilet that is supported by the wall, so it looks like it is floating above the floor

It's one where there's no foot or pedestal i.e. the toilet pan is just fixed to the wall, with nothing beneath it to support it.

Sidge · 03/08/2016 21:09

Easier to clean the floors, innit?

helpimitchy · 03/08/2016 21:09

It makes it easier to clean the floor.

acasualobserver · 03/08/2016 21:10

Thank you for explaining. What is your concern? That a fat customer might snap it off the wall?

QuestionableMouse · 03/08/2016 21:10

If you saw the amount of piss that ends up on the floor you'd want to make the floor as easy to clean as possible!

Emochild · 03/08/2016 21:11

I know it's easier to clean the floor but I always think they are going to fall off the wall

It will encourage 'hoverers' Grin

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 03/08/2016 21:13

I would have thought wall hung toilets were better for public toilets they take up less space and as people have said easier to Clean around

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 03/08/2016 21:15

I always think they are going to fall off the wall

There no more going to than the old over head cisterns

dietcokeandwine · 03/08/2016 21:16

We have wall hung toilets in our bathroom/downstairs loo. They aren't just fixed to the wall, each has a separate heavy duty frame that is concealed within the wall itself and then tiled over. So basically like a traditional pedestal but you only actually see the toilet bowl and seat, the pedestal bit is hidden.

They are just as solid and sturdy as a traditional pedestal but, as others have said, a lot easier to keep clean. No nasty manky bit of grouting around any pedestal base to get coated in wee!

Womenareliketeabags · 03/08/2016 21:18

What is your concern? That a fat customer might snap it off the wall? Grin haha. Laid in bed laughing to myself.

acasualobserver · 03/08/2016 21:18

Now, the old overhead cisterns, I miss those. You got a proper Niagara style deluge with them - no second flush ever needed.

dietcokeandwine · 03/08/2016 21:19

frames look a bit like this

Tangfastics · 03/08/2016 21:21

I confess to having an aversion to wall mounted toilets too.

In our last bathroom we had one and it was slightly wonky. I was always suspicious of it!

Lweji · 03/08/2016 21:21

I thought you had broken one. Grin

iklboo · 03/08/2016 21:24

My nana flushed an overhead cistern in our very old house. It came off the wall right onto her head & gave her a very nasty concussion.

Penfold007 · 03/08/2016 21:37

My DCs have just told me off for laughing. I do hopeikiboo's nana made a full recovery

iklboo · 03/08/2016 21:42

She did thanks Penfold - trundled along for another 15 years, bless her Smile

Aeroflotgirl · 03/08/2016 21:55

What do wall hung toilets look like?

MsKite · 03/08/2016 21:55

I see the danger in every possible situation, but even I have never worried about this! I'm impressed op! and is makes me feel better to realise I'm not the most paranoid person in the world anymore

PacificDogwod · 03/08/2016 21:58

YABU.

Have you ever seen how they are secured??
Safer than any floor-standing pedestal loo Grin

And they are genius for cleaning

Emochild · 03/08/2016 22:54

I've seen them hung badly!

When I was house hunting I saw a couple in the same house admittedly that were leaning forward and the grout around the tiles was cracking
