to wish there was just one place on mumsnet to talk about MAKING money

as opposed to not have it, not having enough of it, dealing with specific investments, trying to get back to work, being a freelancer.

I have been chugging along earning between £25 and £40k for 12 years, now I have the possibility of earning considerably more, and I wish there was a place you could go to feel entrepreneurial and talk about things like delegation, scaling things up, marketing, tax, etc.

If this was mansnet, there would be tonnes of places to talk about making money :(

if anyone else wants to make money, or is going about making money in an interesting way, or is tired of not making money and wants to get serious about making some, please wander over and chat.

WorraLiberty · 03/08/2016 17:33

Well you won't get very far with that attitude will you? Grin

You've come to AIBU with a sad face, bemoaning the lack of money making topics?

Why not post in Site Stuff, suggesting a money making topic?

That's if there isn't one already?

bitemyshinymetalass · 03/08/2016 17:37

There are FOUR topics in the money section and NINE in the Work section, including investments, free lancing/self employed and startups.....if you really think you need yet another one, take it to site stuff.

If you want to get serious about making money, you might want to improve your attention to detail.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 03/08/2016 17:47

The freelance/self-employed board would probably be sure good bet if you're feeling 'entrepreneurial'. Funnily enough, doing these things involve ideas, taxes, marketing etc

Why do you thin you need a separate board?

Oh,there's the Start Ups board for asking about ideas too btw

Hmm
witsender · 03/08/2016 17:56

There's a money section surely? Lots of people like making money.

Lovelyideas · 04/08/2016 10:39

Thanks for the replies.snidey insults come free I guess :)

Thereare occasional threads on the various boards mentioned, but no dedicated place.

Will report and ask

OP posts:
bitemyshinymetalass · 04/08/2016 10:41

They ARE the dedicated place, ffs! If you want particular threads, start them there. Unless you're looking for your very own topic, its all already there.

Lovelyideas · 04/08/2016 10:58

they ARE the dedicated place,

Which one though?

OP posts:
GetAHaircutCarl · 04/08/2016 11:04

I think in a way it doesn't matter OP.

Start a thread and people will come (hopefully).

However, you won't change the general tone of MN which can be very scathing of people (especially mothers) who are interested in work and making money.

Lovelyideas · 04/08/2016 11:23

GetahaircutCarl,

I think you've put your finger on it.

thanks for being the voice of sanity.

OP posts:
HeddaLettuce · 04/08/2016 11:25

Which one? Whichever one is right for you!

I wish there was a place you could go to feel entrepreneurial and yalk about things like delegation, scaling things up, marketing, tax, etc

Self employed or start ups, I guess. Try there.

thatstoast · 04/08/2016 12:22

Who was that woman who owned an island? She used to post lots about women aiming to be high earners.

acasualobserver · 04/08/2016 12:29

Thanks for the replies.snidey insults come free I guess

Well, that's not very entrepreneurial for a start. If AIBU could charge for snidery there'd be some fucking rich MNers.

HeddaLettuce · 04/08/2016 12:31

Xenia, I think?

I object to someone coming on here and saying If this was mansnet, there would be tonnes of places to talk about making money sad as if we are talking about knitting and nappies cos we are women Hmm Especially when she has been pointed to the 13 + topics that cover exactly that. There are loads of topics and threads here for women about making money, OP just can't find them. Her fault.

Lovelyideas · 04/08/2016 12:35

"Self employed or start ups, I guess. Try there."

thanks for reply.

Those are great boards if you are dealing with the day to day realities of self-employment (help! where's my pension!) or starting up (how do I do this?)

But that's very very different to growing a business, scaling a business, etc. apples and oranges.

OP posts:
TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 04/08/2016 12:35

Since when has mumsnet been scathing about mums wanting to earn money ffs?

Have another one of these, on the house Hmm I'm now going to get more work done for my own business......

Lovelyideas · 04/08/2016 12:36

rofl at

I guess that's what MN Justine does....

OP posts:
TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 04/08/2016 12:37

No it's not OP, it is the right place for it!

Self employment is the board to go to, then just start a thread about the topic you want to discuss.

Simple

HeddaLettuce · 04/08/2016 12:37

But that's very very different to growing a business, scaling a business, etc. apples and oranges

Isn't that what startups are? New growing businesses? Start your own thread there! You don't need an entirely new topic, you just need to start your own thread.

Lovelyideas · 04/08/2016 12:38

"There are loads of topics and threads here for women about making money, OP just can't find them. Her fault."

there aren't you know.

There was Xenia, but she is a rather unusual person with a style that easily offends and can send threads offtrack superfast.

OP posts:
Lovelyideas · 04/08/2016 12:38

thanks. I have tried.
But it isn't the place to talk about scaling up a businses.
Scaling up a businses is not the same as self-employment.

OP posts:
fastdaytears · 04/08/2016 12:39

Poor love isn't allowed to post any more

I'm not sure that a dedicated area is needed. I started and run a business and it's doing quite well thanks but not something I'd really come to MN to talk about.

Delegation applies to everyone so you'd probably be able to talk about that on work somewhere.

I wouldn't be looking to get tax advice online.

Can't even remember what else you said. Entrepreneurs aren't a different species. Most of us are here for a break from our businesses.

Lovelyideas · 04/08/2016 12:40

I have tried Hedda, a fair few times over the last year or so. but the culture doesn't seem to be there.

Those boards are awesome for "getting your feet back under the table" as it were. Less so for the next step.

OP posts:
opheliaamongthelillies · 04/08/2016 12:40

Why don't you try a "growing your business"/marketing website?

HeddaLettuce · 04/08/2016 12:42

There are thousands and thousands.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/business_start_ups
www.mumsnet.com/info/search?query=new+business+idea
www.mumsnet.com/info/search?query=start+new+company

I just found about ten thousand in 2 minutes. I hope you won't need this much spoon feeding with your business!

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 04/08/2016 12:42

If the business is your own then it is the board to go to. Either self employed or start ups, you choose.

If you are this awkward and unable to grasp the concept of where you could post and don't 'get it' or have a clue, then tbh I'd be querying whether you are capable of doing what you want to.

You sound like you want a guide book rather than discussion tbh
