To potentially make DH very ill?

I realise there is a similar themed thread here, must be food hygiene day.

Anyway, I cooked a chicken on Thursday afternoon. Switched the oven off when it was ready and left it in there (one of those cook in the bag ALDI special bad boys).

We went away for the weekend and I totally forgot about it until now.

AIBU to test it on DH to see if it's edible? DH things it probably is, so is sort of consenting. He's also left his bastarding socks on the floor next to the laundry basket again, for me to collect and wash presumably. As such, I feel his life is expendable at the moment.

'Raw or cooked, chicken should be left unrefridgerated for no longer than 2 hours.'

MaddyHatter · 31/07/2016 21:52

campylobacter can take 2-5 days for symptoms to appear.

Salmonella is 12 hours.. so hang in there for the next week before he's in the clear!

Pigsbum · 31/07/2016 21:52

I got food poisoning from my local KFC last week and it was a horrible horrible experience. Noooooo waaaaay would I be munching days old chicken and I usually have a bomb proof stomach - I'm very interested to see who this turns out...

Footle · 31/07/2016 21:52

No bacteria can get in, but what about anaerobic bacteria ? Has he heard of decomposition ?

GirlWithTheLionHeart · 31/07/2016 21:52

Place marking. He might just get the squits hopefully!

miniHovis · 31/07/2016 21:53

Oh no I hope he doesn't campylobacter, my dp had that and was hospitalised for 3 days on a drip with it, and the smell dear fucking lord he smelt like he had died 3 weeks previously. Take a peg to bed with you

Ememem84 · 31/07/2016 21:53

I am not at all in anyway place marking even though I already commented.

I can't believe he ate it. My Dh are some of my bodyshop moisturiser (strawberry flavour) once because it smaller tasty. Apparently it does not taste so good and is not good for insides. Although it did pass rather quickly.

I feel sorry for your Dh. Just a bit. For being that stupid to eat it. But also marvel that he's survived this long. And that you also have.

Good luck sleepy I think you're going to need it. Also maybe air freshener. For the rancid chicken farts. And maybe a new bathroom.

Pigsbum · 31/07/2016 21:54

how*

MischiefManagedAlways · 31/07/2016 21:54

Shock I have terrible anxiety around food and sell by dates, this has just brought me out in a cold sweat! I hope your DH will be okay. Confused

BodsAuntieFlo · 31/07/2016 21:54

If I were you OP I'd be inclined to educate your OH in food hygiene. Jesus, if he thinks eating a 4 day old cooked chicken is ok God only knows what he may feed your children.

DietCockBreak · 31/07/2016 21:56

Haha! I love this thread, so funny. Do let us know if he gets the richly deserved squits as predicted, won't you OP?

Ankleswingers · 31/07/2016 21:56

I'm also an Emetephobe and this is one of my worst fucking nightmares.

IceBeing · 31/07/2016 21:57

The bag could preserve sterility if it is sealed....but then if it were sealed it would have exploded during cooking. So it isn't sealed, the chicken isn't sterile, cooking doesn't kill everything (not even full on autoclaving at far higher temperature ad pressure kills everything), and what's left over is the strong stuff and incidentally it is now ANGRY.

He could potentially get away with it....but he probably won't.

I hope he doesn't get seriously ill.

Babyzoo · 31/07/2016 21:58

Wow

OnionKnight · 31/07/2016 22:00

My farts stink after a chinese chicken curry so the DH's farts after eating three day old cooked chicken might be nuclear, I hope the OP has a gasmask.

KoalaDownUnder · 31/07/2016 22:01

Yuck. Why the hell would he even want to eat it?? Disgusting.

AprilLoveJ · 31/07/2016 22:03

I was laughing at this thread at first! Now I'm just worried.

I've had food poisoning a couple times in my life before, once as a child, and the pain of the cramps was absolutely excruciating. My mum got it from a pub restaurant in Manchester and I've never seen her so ill and in so much pain, she ended up in hospital far from home for a week. It's nothing to play around with. I'd rather throw money down the drain than risk getting ill.

Please incinerate the chicken post haste op and update us on your dh's bathroom trips.

snowgirl29 · 31/07/2016 22:03

PigsBum I'm veggie since last year now but I haven't eaten from a KFC in about 5 years now due to also having food poisoning from there.

I've also had food poisoning from a Chinese takeaway - oddly it was the chicken balls that were dodgy there. I remember very vividly crawling up the stairs in agony to try and make it to the bathroom in time, I slept on the cold tiled floor too whilst I groaned in pain all night too it was horrendous!

I really do hope your DH has a cast iron stomach and is alright OP. He's still a numpty for eating it against your advice though.

Apologies to those with phobias. Please do not revisit this thread as I will update.

Have you thrown the rest of it away OP?

Ratbagcatbag · 31/07/2016 22:13

My now dh in the pre meeting me days ate 4 day old refrigerated chicken. He spent time in hospital on a drip for fluids. Dh can normally eat anything and never gets upset stomachs. He's super wary about chicken now.

Sofie88 · 31/07/2016 22:14

Haha this thread is so funny. And it's something my OH would do too! I'm fussy with food but he isn't at all. Hope your DH doesn't become ill Confused

Sleepybunny · 31/07/2016 22:17

I've gone upstairs with afore mention non sleeping baby. Left DH to clean up his dishes, no idea of the location of the chicken.

Should I prepare for this? Look out Imodium, line bathroom with polythene, purchase Ebola-style biohazard suit?
