I am a runner, Im so tired of people's dogs running and jumping on me while i'm on a run. Its always dog owners with the larger dogs, if you have a dog that is excitable and is known to chase jump and be a general nuisance to others trying to enjoy the park please put it on a lead.

I suffer severe allergies and today a dog jumped on me while i'm out running and scratched my leg. I have now got a 4 inch scratch which could scar from the knee down. The lazy owner had the dog off a lead and was very overweight so could not keep up with the dog running off ahead.

She then had the nerve to tell me i was out of order for kicking the dog off me.

Please Dog Owners put your dog on a lead.

Yes the fat shaming seems to have gone unnoticed by the dog haterz
Says a lot.

Yes, it says that most people are keeping to the topic rather than try and derail the discussion with something which has nothing to do with it.

Sandyclaus · 28/07/2016 19:57

YABVU and are very cruel for kicking the dog (I wish the dog owner had reported you for this) and nasty with your comments about the owner.

I am a runner AND a dog owner. I have never had a dog run at me or chase me whilst running and my dogs have never jumped up at or chased a runner.

Get over yourself. Everyone has a right to use public spaces, and dog owners have a right to let dogs off leads if safe to do so just as much as you have to run.

I wouldn't kick any more dogs if I was you - if the owners got any sense they'll kick you back harder !!

allegretto · 28/07/2016 19:57

Who has talked about dogs breathing? People have complained about being pushed, jumped on, scratched and bitten. Don't try and minimize the problem.

allegretto · 28/07/2016 19:58

Everyone has a right to use public spaces

The irony! Everyone has a right but dog owners have more rights than others.

Yanbu! I once posted about how my 18 month old toddler had been pinned down face first into wet sand by a Newfoundland and I hate punched it off her. I was told I was the one at fault! A giant Newfoundland ontop of my tiny screaming toddler and I shouldve gently asked it to get off. So many crazy dog owners on here. If I had had a brick at the time I would've caved it's head in.

YANBU. I have had dogs jump up at me repeatedly with little or no response from the owners.

TortoiseVTurtle · 28/07/2016 20:07

UmbongoUnchained you were posting on threads way before the alleged incident with your daughter that you 'hated' dogs though.
I must admit that I think anyone that hates any animal is more likely to be 'crazy' than not.

John4703 · 28/07/2016 20:12

If dog owners kept their dogs on short leads, I'd suggest no more than 1.5 metres in lenght then other people could enjoy the outdoor space. Dogs should not run free in public places, they shit and pee and children could catch something from the urine or faeces.
I do not have a dog now but when I did the dog was free to run in my garden, everywhere else she was on a short lead.
I cycle and have frequently been chased by dogs while the owners ignore them, this is on cycle paths.

When? I don't hate dogs. I just think they're animals and should never be put before a human.

Pardonwhat · 28/07/2016 20:16

If you kicked my dog id have launched at you.

TortoiseVTurtle · 28/07/2016 20:17

You did say that you hate dogs, I remembered you from other dog hating threads and AS to check that I had the correct poster. You did say that you hate dogs on an old thread (lots actually).

TortoiseVTurtle · 28/07/2016 20:18

John you would more likely catch something from the toddlers at my local soft play than a dog in the park, don't be so silly.

Wolfiefan · 28/07/2016 20:24

"Caved its head in"
Wow.
Dogs shouldn't be out of control. If they are off a lead then they should have good recall. They shouldn't be allowed to jump up at people.
BUT a normal sane person wouldn't respond to an overexcited daft dog by kicking and pondering caving in its skull. Either report the owner or move on. You can't control how everyone else behaves in the world. There are some stupid dog owners (and non dog owners) BUT as grown up and reasonable people we can control our responses.

You advanced searched me? And I'm the crazy one?

PopeyesWench · 28/07/2016 20:38

self defence Section 3(1) of the Criminal Law Act 1967 provides that: "A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of crime*

Assault is a crime. Getting chased and attacked (by a dog) is a form of assault. Ergo her self defence was valid. It is also a DOG. Not a child or a baby. A DOG. You can't put a dogs "natural instinct" or needs above the safety of an actual human person

If you can't control your dog and it attacks a member of the public, breaking the skin, then the owner is at fault, according to the dangerous dog act (1991) and the gov.uk website advice on dog ownership states:
It’s against the law to let a dog be dangerously out of control anywhere, such as:

in a public place
in a private place, eg a neighbour’s house or garden
in the owner’s home
The law applies to all dogs.

So, YANBU and it is the responsibility of dog owners who cannot control their dogs whatever the environment to keep them on a lead for everyone's safety.

However I have a lovely dog that I have trained to not chase and not jump up. My DMs dog (v similar breed) was NOT trained and did jump up. She kept him on a long lead on walks in parks for everyone's safety.

OPs height, weight, hair colour, favourite pizza topping doesn't matter. The dog owners size, star sign, ring size doesn't matter.

TortoiseVTurtle · 28/07/2016 20:44

yes I AS you, I have no problem with doing that, as I say it was to check that you were the poster that was on lots of these threads to say how much you hated dogs.

Lweji · 28/07/2016 20:44

PopeyesWench

And in addition to what you said, dog owners should always assume people on the street or public parks (not dog specialist parks) are not fond of dogs at the best and may be scared/allergic, whatever.

If people want to be around your dogs, they can come to them. Certainly don't get pissed off if people don't want your precious dog around them.

UmbongoUnchained · 28/07/2016 20:45

Well I haven't been on lots of threads about dogs! Like 2 maybe 3? One of them my own thread.
