Dog owners put them on a lead!!!

I am a runner, Im so tired of people's dogs running and jumping on me while i'm on a run. Its always dog owners with the larger dogs, if you have a dog that is excitable and is known to chase jump and be a general nuisance to others trying to enjoy the park please put it on a lead.

I suffer severe allergies and today a dog jumped on me while i'm out running and scratched my leg. I have now got a 4 inch scratch which could scar from the knee down. The lazy owner had the dog off a lead and was very overweight so could not keep up with the dog running off ahead.

She then had the nerve to tell me i was out of order for kicking the dog off me.

Please Dog Owners put your dog on a lead.

maybe they think you want to play with them? Honestly, it's not working for you, the park running in that park, is it? You could start a campaign to have it made runners only, or you can find a better venue for running. Expecting dog owners to put their dogs on leads every time they see you seems like it's never going to happen.

BusyJessica · 28/07/2016 14:45

Really you get scratched daily by large dogs? I'm wondering why you weren't wearing long leggings and not shorts. I think you just don't like dogs and are displaying a generally high level of intolerance. Howabout running in a gym? No dogs there!

Are you actually victim blaming.

Stop kicking dogs.

I've had runners kick my dog - who is small and placid -but doesn't hear people coming up behind her. She also doesn't understand that runners expect her to move. She stays still and expects them to move round her. As you would. As I expect others who are faster than me to do. In fact as pretty much everyone does - except runners - who think everyone should just get out their way.

Nice body shaming...

picklypopcorn · 28/07/2016 14:46

Lazy because she made no attempt to shout at the dog or try and get him off me.

That's not laziness OP that's just poor dog management..

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 28/07/2016 14:46

I'm 6ft5". How tall are you?

You might not think its relevent where I walk but I was more trying to make the point that sometimes it's not always the dog owners fault, cyclists and probably runners will sometimes suprise the dog owner. Maybe the dog owner in theOPs case normally grabs the dog but maybe the OP ran up behind the person.

Genuinely just spat my tea out laughing at that! Grin

Owllady · 28/07/2016 14:48

You are far too tall to have a dog Simon

ginghamstarfish · 28/07/2016 14:48

So a human being should not have the right to use a public place, paid for by taxpayers, because the rights of dogs are more important? Did I really just read that? Wtf

BusyJessica · 28/07/2016 14:49

Also I have been diagnosed with medication for anxiety and so have many others. I am really scared of dogs so just because you think they are harmless others think they are scary.

MamaLazarou · 28/07/2016 14:49

YANBU, my poor cat was savaged by a dog off the lead. He pulled through but will never be the same again. Of course we gave the dickhead owner the £600 vet bill but we never saw him again.

If your dog doesn't come when you call it, muzzle it or keep it on the lead.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 28/07/2016 14:50

My dog has chased two maybe three people in two years. I am 99.9% sure that each time the runner/cyclist hd no idea the dog was chasing them.

She was some distance behind, she runs slowly for about ten seconds and gives up/decides to listen to me.

Like I said I grab her every time I see a runner/cyclist.

When I walk for three miles I see maybe one runner and a few cyclists. I'm not going to keep her on a lead for such a small number of people. And if cyclists use a bell I will see them early enough to grab the dog.

BluePitchFork · 28/07/2016 14:51

yanbu
if you can't give a dog adequate exercise without taking it off lead you shouldn't have a dog. imo.

See that example is wrong, I would run around. But this was because i was attacked.

I am very tall. My dog is very small.

I need a Great Dane.

Dog owners put them on a lead!!!
MunchCrunch01 · 28/07/2016 14:51

yes, all the bad dogs should be kept on leads, nobody is defending badly behaved dogs. I'm sorry for people that are scared of dogs, but the solution isn't dog free parks, the solution is conquering your unreasonable anxiety before you force other people to make changes to fit around your problems. Liberalism? My dog is a lovely harmless old thing. Why should he not have a run in his local park in case somebody that has an unreasonable fear of him is there?

KinkyAfro · 28/07/2016 14:51

A responsible dog owner should put their dog on a lead if there is anything around that is known to distract their dog ffs. The comments on here are bonkers, I can't believe that people allow their dogs to chase runners etc. I have a dog and I keep her off the main paths if it's busy or lead her if required. YADNBU OP

Owllady · 28/07/2016 14:52

There was a 7ft great Dane on this morning, this morning. It was huge. My nine year old was in a state of shock :o

UnexpectedBaggage · 28/07/2016 14:52

YANBU, OP. Some people here are dogshit crazy about their mutts.

If you dog chases people or jumps up it should be on a lead.

BusyJessica · 28/07/2016 14:52

Exactly

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 28/07/2016 14:52

I haven't seen anyone say they allow their dog to chase runners!

That would be very bad.

Maybebabybee · 28/07/2016 14:54

This thread literally appears every week Grin

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 28/07/2016 14:54

I know.

I predict a thread about cat poo, a thread about annoying cyclists. Grin

milkbottle · 28/07/2016 14:56

OP, is this park very close to a 'dog park?' If so YANBU. If not then YABU, dogs need exercise too.

mandybeesborough · 28/07/2016 14:57

To be fair I'm a regular runner and went through a spate of having large dogs jump up at me. Some owners were very apologetic and some did nothing. I was about 6 months pg at time and this was on roads, fields, parks. I don't want to run indoors. One dog scratched my leg really badly and was very painful and I was so shocked I didn't say anything to the owner but I don't think it's ok. In that case the owner could see me coming from quite far away so I didn't take anyone by surprise. I've never been bothered by dogs. Grew up with a dog but I started to feel quite afraid whenever I saw one. Thankfully the last few months have been without incident.
