I am a runner, Im so tired of people's dogs running and jumping on me while i'm on a run. Its always dog owners with the larger dogs, if you have a dog that is excitable and is known to chase jump and be a general nuisance to others trying to enjoy the park please put it on a lead.

I suffer severe allergies and today a dog jumped on me while i'm out running and scratched my leg. I have now got a 4 inch scratch which could scar from the knee down. The lazy owner had the dog off a lead and was very overweight so could not keep up with the dog running off ahead.

She then had the nerve to tell me i was out of order for kicking the dog off me.

Please Dog Owners put your dog on a lead.

Ok the OP was fat-shaming, but how does that change the point about the dog?

WaitrosePigeon · 28/07/2016 19:32

Sonic I don't know why you keep repeating this. We got it the first time! As others have said, it isn't always possible to take a measured decision to stand still when an animal is in your face and you don't know whether it is being friendly or not. It is always the owner's responsibility to stop this happening. If their dog is kicked in self-defence, then it is also their fault.

Kayakinggirl86 · 28/07/2016 19:34

Personally as a runner I have no issues of dogs off leads, much perfect that to dogs on the supper long leads (the 5m+ extendable ones) that are completely across the path and are often so thin you can't see them till you are tripping over them.

Kalopsia77 · 28/07/2016 19:34

Wow lots of hysteria on here! OP I completely agree with you. I LOVE dogs, have my own and ran a dog walking company for years. I have walked hundreds of dogs of all types and NOTHING annoys me more than having other people's dogs running wild. "Oh he's friendly!" It's not ok. The dog on the lead could be terrified, snappy, recovering from surgery and doesn't deserve to have "friendly" dogs jumping all over it. It's not ok for dogs to jump all over kids or runners or cyclists. Sort it out! My lovely soft as shite springer is a pain in the ass off the lead (selective deafness) so she stays on the lead and gets walked for miles. Or we go out at 5am to a very rural spot. It's my responsibility to make sure she isn't upsetting anyone else. And any owners who let their dogs jump all over her when she is on lead get told Grin

TortoiseVTurtle · 28/07/2016 19:36

Hysteria? I would say that kicking an animal is quite indicative of hysteria. Causing a dog pain is hardly going to calm the situation down.

I know, I really need to learn not to get sucked in. I do it every time!

BluePitchFork · 28/07/2016 19:41

No aggression, no biting just jumping up.

to me a dog jumping up is aggression.

I'm not into kicking dogs to be fair but I can kind of see how it could be a pain/fear reaction. I honestly think that dogs running wild and jumping on people is dangerous for the dog too. I've seen dogs be hit by bikes while chasing them, it's horrible for everyone

PersianCatLady · 28/07/2016 19:47

supper long leads (the 5m+ extendable ones)
A lady down the beach who I sort of know had her dog on one of those last summer and the dog ran around my leg and then started to run away. That dog lead cut so deep that it was sore for weeks.

To be honest I think that they should either be more visible or be banned.

Mycraneisfixed · 28/07/2016 19:47

I am so fed up with people jogging through our lovely parks at quite a speed cursing any child, adult, bike, trike, dog, that happens to be ambling along having a nice time
Can't you joggers do it at 5am or after 9pm?Grin

As BluePitchFork says, jumping up is aggressive. When I was pregnant a dog I didn't know jumped up and scratched me deep enough to draw blood right through my clothes. I didn't kick it but I can understand someone doing that. The owner said he was just being friendly (of course).

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 28/07/2016 19:50

Some people think a dog is out of control if he as much as breathes in their vicinity.

PersianCatLady · 28/07/2016 19:51

Yes the fat shaming seems to have gone unnoticed by the dog haterz. Says a lot.
No I noticed it and mentioned it up thread - the way in which the OP described the dog walker in her case probably didn't inspire people to think nice things about her.

Some people here seem to think a dog is wild and out of control if he as much as breathes in their presence.

Kalopsia77 · 28/07/2016 19:54

It kind of is though Navy. I always refused to let dogs off the lead if they didn't have perfect recall, it's just not fair to anyone and being jumped up at is terrifying to some. I'm not fussed myself, I love an impromptu dog cuddle but poor training is dangerous. Kids and elderly people can easily be knocked down and scratches are pretty unacceptable. Tough one.
