I am a runner, Im so tired of people's dogs running and jumping on me while i'm on a run. Its always dog owners with the larger dogs, if you have a dog that is excitable and is known to chase jump and be a general nuisance to others trying to enjoy the park please put it on a lead.

I suffer severe allergies and today a dog jumped on me while i'm out running and scratched my leg. I have now got a 4 inch scratch which could scar from the knee down. The lazy owner had the dog off a lead and was very overweight so could not keep up with the dog running off ahead.

She then had the nerve to tell me i was out of order for kicking the dog off me.

Please Dog Owners put your dog on a lead.

I always move mine off the path for runners, cyclists and pushchairs. I also clear up any poo from other dogs that has been left on the path. Mine are on lead. We still get off lead dogs running up to us.

Grin at the runner humper. That must have been deeply embarrassing for all the humans involved.

It really is simple: if you cannot be in control of your dog, your dog should not be running freely in public spaces.

How would therapy stop a dog chasing or scratching a runner? Confusedunless it's therapy for the dog?

SonicSpotlight · 28/07/2016 18:28

Do you really not get that kicking a dog might cause it to bite? It's not about whether you are justified in being annoyed or whether kicking is a reasonable reaction it's about your safety.

BluePitchFork · 28/07/2016 18:30

Do you really not get that kicking a dog might cause it to bite?

do you really not get that having a dog out of control means that someone might need to defend themselves?

SonicSpotlight · 28/07/2016 18:31

Dogs who chase will chase moving things. Unless they are snapping or nipping stop moving. Then you're no longer interesting to them.

You are never going to be able to have ALL dog owners be in control of their dogs. EVER.

No, but those that aren't should be punished.

If you are a responsible dog owner, you should be more outraged at owners that aren't, than at people on the street that are attacked or put at risk by dogs.

allegretto · 28/07/2016 18:33

If you have a huge dog jumping up at you it is a natural instinct to hit out and try and stop it. Yes, it might not be the right thing to do but you cannot expect someone to know what the right thing is to do, especially if they don't have dogs of their own. The dog owner on the other hand SHOULD know how to deal with their own bloody dog.

Lweji · 28/07/2016 18:33

Including because dogs of irresponsible dog owners may end up attacking your dogs too.

BluePitchFork · 28/07/2016 18:33

why should a runner stop running just because a dog is out of control which actually is illegal.

Are we ok to kick a dog that's running up to us looking like it's going to bite? What about the dog that is overexcited?

Ask yourself if you think it's ok for a dog to run towards someone looking like it's going to bite.
It's not for the person to realise what the dog is going to do.
It's for the bloody owner to make sure the dog is not a nuisance or a danger to anyone else.

allegretto · 28/07/2016 18:35

Exactly! The whole point of running is to keep moving, it's not musical statues.

Lweji · 28/07/2016 18:37

Navy is like people who park at illegal and dangerous spots trying to justify parking there.

SonicSpotlight · 28/07/2016 18:38

Defend yourself from what? If a dog is snapping or biting you need to defend yourself. Jumping at you isn't an act of aggression. It may be frightening and cause scratches but the dog isn't 'attacking' you. If you lash out at it might actually attack you.

EeksyPeeksy · 28/07/2016 18:39

I wouldn't have my dog off a lead if it jumped at people so I guess yanbu in that sense. However, you will always get irresponsible dog owners and as it happens to you so often, you might want to reconsider where you run?

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 28/07/2016 18:39

my suggestion of therapy was to a poster who said they might kick a dog because she was scared.

Hmm Show me where I said that, Navy? Your suggestion of therapy was because I said (to another poster) that relaxing in a park is made difficult by irresponsible dog owners who let their dogs run towards me.

I'm having a hard time believing that you are the responsible dog owner that you claim to be since you are so adamant that the fault must always lie with the humans that don't want dogs jumping on them.

you shouldn't need to lash out, push or kick the dog away, because the dog should be under fucking control in the first place.

*NavyandWhite

Maybe those who are scared of dogs and can't relax on the beach on a sunny day should seek some therapy for your fears.*

Hmm
