To be fucked off with time-wasters?

I've been a MN for a little while, and it helped enormously during my break up with my ex - tons of positive stories from women who had been through it and not only survived, but thrived. But I have wasted far too many evenings offering advice/kind words etc to threads which have been pulled for being, basically, bollocks. I've done it again tonight. Why the fuck do people think pulling this shit is ok?

That was the first one I got right as a troll. Posted on it for the deletion message. It was boring

fastdaytears · 26/07/2016 21:51

Lorelei there have been two sets of deleted twins in the last 24 hours that I know of...

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 26/07/2016 21:54

anthony Good point. It is always interesting to see how differently we respond. And I'm completely guilty of following threads where Iknow / suspect it's going to end badly. Which leads me to suspect I am being a (little bit) U. I'm mainly annoyed at myself for apologising to an OP when my gut instinct told me she was el dodgo then finding out she was.

Crikey! I have twins and feel I should disguise them in future posts as single children! Agreed, the post tonight was just ridiculous. It was the civil partnership that did for her in the end!

Just5minswithDacre · 26/07/2016 21:56

People do have twins, though.

It'll be a bit unfair if having twins comes to be seen as a sign of iffiness.

And I still have my doubts about one of those threads.

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 26/07/2016 21:56

My friend has twins. They are both hilarious nutters who are identical. I wonder if she would get called a troll. Her life is also pretty hectic with exH.
Lorelei just assume all of AIBU is troll. People who have genuine concerns will post in correct topic. I quite like the pregnancy board, feel like I can actually help and none of the ones I have commented on have been pulled as trolls.
I was sucked in by Oliver's army which means I now take all of AIBU with a pinch of salt even if I do still post on it

Just5minswithDacre · 26/07/2016 21:57

X post boobs Smile

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 26/07/2016 22:00

fast I took DT's to mean 'delirium tremors' cue slight over-sharing on my part. The OP corrected my mistake and then encouraged me to further engage. Mumsnet, a baptism of fire into the world of forums. But so many great individuals here ( some of whom have possibly encouraged me to get a cat..)

OP posts:
thebakerwithboobs · 26/07/2016 22:05

Get a cat and have twins??

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 26/07/2016 22:05

Eek, and apologies to all those with twins. A few years ago, a case of the DT's meant something very different in my world!

OP posts:
thebakerwithboobs · 26/07/2016 22:06

No need for apologies. DTs do give you DTs on occasion....Smile

CraftyPenguin · 26/07/2016 22:06

I can never spot them either op and it annoys me that I invest time in reply just for it to be a bloody troll.

MsJudgemental · 26/07/2016 22:06

Spotted 2 tonight......

fastdaytears · 26/07/2016 22:06

Everyone hide their twins AND their delirium tremors...

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 26/07/2016 22:07

No to twins. Cat, possibly...

I sort of expect at least half of all threads to be sheer fantasy these days (and an even higher percentage in Relationships). There are 3 or 4 on the go at the moment that will probably be deleted soon.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 26/07/2016 22:15

Am I the only person who thought from the title this thread was going to be about Tinder/Plenty of Fish? Blush

CaptainCrunch · 26/07/2016 22:18

I thought it was going to be about gumtree hahaha.

chocolateworshipper · 26/07/2016 22:21

YADNBU. At least the one this evening became very obvious very quickly!

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 26/07/2016 22:21

very I'm still new to forums - those sites are still unexplored territory! What would technically be considered a 'time-waster'?!

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 26/07/2016 22:23

Back around December time, quite a few MNetters asked HQ if we could have just one topic, where name changing was not allowed.

So if you posted in that topic, could only do it under one nickname - much like Mumsnet Local.

We were told it would be a 'technical nightmare' for some reason, but that they would definitely look into it in the future, if people still wanted it.

Well people still do and it took HQ over a month to come back to the repeatedly bumped (and reported) thread in Site Stuff, only to give a wishy-washy answer that basically meant no.

But I think it would be good for Mumsnetters who want to stick around on MN, but are sick to death of the trolling, especially as it's much worse when the schools break up.

Hassled · 26/07/2016 22:26

I think you've got to take the view that even if you've wasted time advising a troll, MN has so many users that it's perfectly possible someone somewhere read your advice and benefited from it - someone in a similar situation to the made-up bollocks but who never would have posted about it. Advice is still advice, and you don't know who's reading it.

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 26/07/2016 22:26

choc the house/horse one? This was my 'final straw'. It was as complicated as a Chekov novel, I made my doubts clear (which as a newbie, maybe should have waited) then ended up apologising, only to see thread pulled anyway. In future, will only engage in conversations about the possibility of getting a cat.

OP posts:
LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 26/07/2016 22:31

hassled yes, there is that. Have read several threads which were pulled, and seen some invaluable pieces of advice in amongst the crap.

Crunchymum · 26/07/2016 22:34

I can't believe trolling is prononced 'trough-ling' and not how it looks?
