Not sure why a one year old wouldn't have a nappy on as she clearly is not Notts trained at that age my one year old would be become destressed to be constantly wet

And what's the no medication about surely social service would become involved if they got very ill and parents did noting

Very odd

Spartans Grin

I saw a documentary on Sparta a few years back. The bit about the babies was sobering viewing. Not least because from the way they described it, DS1 would have likely been cast out to die if he'd been born in ancient Sparta.

I bet the authorities nowadays would have something to say anout trying to give a child an authentically Spartan upbringing now.
Deliberately underfed so that they were forced to steal food to survive, and given a good beating if they were careless enough to get caught stealing. All considered character building in ancient Sparta.

And for all that they didn't start school till 7, it sounded very full on with physical education, schooling and more of that character building whipping (with extra whipping for any boy who cried) until they were old enough to become a soldier.

bloodyteenagers · 22/07/2016 19:18

Did someone just say that she/they don't like publicity?
If that was the case, then they wouldn't be courting the media again. They would have learned 5 years ago about this stuff, when they were in the news for the lotus stuff.
oh yea, silly me. They want people to pay for their trip.

Love this comment on Could you expand slightly on the self sufficiency aspect of this? Only it doesn't seem particularly self sufficient if you're asking other people to pay for it and then relying on the income from an unrepresentatively large property in a developing economy. I think the word you are looking for is self indulgent.

Cagliostro · 22/07/2016 19:38

Ooh, didn't realise they'd been in the meeja before.

PunkrockerGirl · 22/07/2016 19:43

What a pile of wank

This x 1000

bloodyteenagers · 22/07/2016 19:44

Amazing what you can find out about shy people, who hate attention when they leave various profiles open for the world to see Grin
School holidays, so I am off work, booze on hand, waiting in for most of the afternoon/evening for deliveries is a very bad combo for stalking.

Lorsaidthedean · 22/07/2016 20:02

Although it looks like she saves money by doing the hair cuts. In the dark. With kitchen scissors.

mouldycheesefan · 22/07/2016 20:04

What is the latest total on the just giving page?

mouldycheesefan · 22/07/2016 20:08

Just checked, they are up to £140 😂

Floggingmolly · 22/07/2016 20:17

Of course they were paid for the interviews. Money is the motivating factor behind the whole media circus. Why else would these off grid desperadoes who are so anxious to remain unobserved decide it was a good idea to expose their entire lives to the nation who largely couldn't give a shit?
Like the spies who came in from the cold. I imagine it's bloody cold out there when you're trying to get money for nothing under the guise of self-sufficiency.
Why aren't they being laughed out of it instead of given air time?

Gowgirl · 22/07/2016 20:22

They are being laughed at, check out the comments on their various sites!

expatinscotland · 22/07/2016 20:34

Sparta, where men were told by their women kindred to come back with their shields or on them.

This gal is no different from any garden variety stripper or topless model, getting her baps out for money and publicity.

Lorsaidthedean · 22/07/2016 20:40

The blog is comedy gold. "Other animals chew the cord off shortly after birth, but as a vegan, this option did not appeal to me"
(I still think it is hoax).

MrsJoeyMaynard · 22/07/2016 20:42

Who on earth would choose to chew a cord off if they had a knife or a pair of scissors to hand?

Cagliostro · 22/07/2016 20:47

I have for some reason found myself wondering what contraception they use? Blush As it said in that link that they chose not to have a child soon after Ulysses. Guessing it's not the implant/pill etc. Can you buy organic condoms? Wink :o

Dontyoulovecalpol · 22/07/2016 20:47

I think the lotus birth is the strangest of all. Why does it have a name? How can you have a lotus birth when dragging around the placenta for 6 days is nothing to do with the birth? Why is it even a thing?

bigkidsdidit · 22/07/2016 20:52

I did wonder about hoax when that was followed by 'if we were meant to cut the cord we'd have scissors'. As the animal examples show, we DO have scissors. We have teeth.

Fomalhaut · 22/07/2016 20:53

Lotus birth is just whack job one upmanship... It's the four Yorkshiremen sketch with crunchy mums ...

"I had a natural birth"
"Well I encapsulated the placenta and ingested it"
"That's nothing! I ate mine raw."
"Well you're all in thrall to modern medicine. I left the placenta attached for a week!"

Floggingmolly · 22/07/2016 20:59

She does make reference to having to disguise the smell of rotting flesh with rose petals Confused
That great big lump of rotting flesh attached to your newborn baby... It's mind boggling. You'd actually have to wonder at the sanity of someone who thinks that's a good thing.

dontpokethebear · 22/07/2016 21:08

cagliostro I had that exact thought myself.
My vote is with plotting the stars to align with Venus rising or maybe just withdrawl

dontpokethebear · 22/07/2016 21:09

And at the risk of sounding shallow, what has she done to her hair?! Jeeeeeeez.

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 22/07/2016 21:34

She also stated that getting cancer is someone's own fault....when I asked about kids who have cancers, she stated that it was the fault of the parents

By her reconing my whole family should be riddled with cancer, touch wood though we've been unusually exempt:

Me: I wouldn't say I'm negative in a whingy way, but I am an anxious type so glass is usually half empty, you can just call me chickenlicken Grin - not even a scare ever! (than god & touch wood)
My mother: Batshit, nasty, grumpy,.. cancer free
Grandparents: Not awful people, but did like to stir up family feuds, not particularly sociable or "grab life" types - died of non cancer causes
Siblings/aunts/uncles: always bickering, someone's always "out", bitching is the family hobby.. all cancer free (again thank god & touch wood)

As for other people I know who've had cancer, some were lovely positive people from nurturing homes, some were assholes, obv still sad that they got cancer, but doesn't change that they were assholes, but most were ordinary people who lost the jackpot!

MinesaBottle · 22/07/2016 21:40

Interesting she gives a wiki link in that Mamamia article...she doesn't quote this bit

lthough a neonate can survive with the placenta intact and the umbilical cord will eventually fall off on its own, this will reduce the baby's cardiac reserve, and therefore decrease its ability to fight infectious and environmental stresses. As the tissue in the placenta dies, the blood flow to these regions will gradually reduce, but microorganisms that are inhabiting the rotting placenta cannot be protected from entering the neonatal circulation via the umbilical vein, which may cause the baby to become seriously unwell or even die.
