Not sure why a one year old wouldn't have a nappy on as she clearly is not Notts trained at that age my one year old would be become destressed to be constantly wet

And what's the no medication about surely social service would become involved if they got very ill and parents did noting

Very odd

I'll write a book about raising teenagers, when my eldest is 9. Grin
or even when my eldest is 5.
I feel quite sorry for them now. They got such a kicking on their gofundme page. What will become of them?

spanky2 · 22/07/2016 17:51

When this falls flat like their Australia jaunt, they'll find some other bandwagon to jump on...

Cagliostro · 22/07/2016 17:51

Yes definitely agree that home ed should be more publicised (in a positive way, not the extreme end that makes DM readers people think home ed kids are all feral) :)

I would TOTALLY watch that show if they went to Costa Rica (or perhaps somewhere vaccinations aren't compulsory Wink). I can actually see a broadcasting corp paying for them to go out there in return for filming rights. It would be car crash telly, and I'm sure I'd find a guilty, morbid fascination in it (much like Child Genius at the moment).

I think they have absolutely no jeffing clue how hard self sufficiency is. I could understand if they were already (or planning to prior to going abroad) in a smallholding, keeping more animals/growing their food etc to try and get more experience. But they seem rather naive, like it's 'living the dream' and they can just go out there and get on with it.

MissHooliesCardigan · 22/07/2016 17:53

Perhaps they were hoping for a flood of offers from documentary makers or lifestyle shows offering them their own series after their appearance on TM. Can't see that materialising anytime soon.
It would just be loads of shots of mum blogging/on FB. Silent Dad doing yoga, Ulysses drawing on the wall and saying 'I'm BOOORED', the baby pissing on the floor, everyone eating quinoa and the odd bit of foraging for a couple of mushrooms.
Riveting stuff.

expatinscotland · 22/07/2016 17:53

I don't feel sorry for them. They're a pair of fuckwits who don't want to work.

Cagliostro · 22/07/2016 17:56

Oh, I hadn't noticed that about the existing eco community. That's different (but yes, why the £100k? Do they have to buy their way in?) - and possibly less disastrous.

Where's the dirt info on their Aussie attempt?

MissHooliesCardigan · 22/07/2016 18:04

I'd want a hell of a lot more than £100,000 for them to come and live with me.

Gowgirl · 22/07/2016 18:07

The other unconventional parent in fb seems lovely though, and quite funnyGrin it must have been quite a shock! Nice of her to post a link to adeles blogWink

Grin Grin
Please let it happen.

TwatbadgingCuntfuckery · 22/07/2016 18:13

floggingmolly I was more pointing out that they insist natural living is expensive when it really isn't! Its really a post to justify them asking for the £100k funding from strangers because their lifestyle choices mean they can't save for it themselves Hmm

--

this was pulled from her blog as to why she is against schooling

Ancient and wise civilisations such as the Spartans kept their young enjoying a free range childhood with the mother or primary caregiver up until 7 years old as they understood that any formal instruction before such an age was futile. If you investigate you will find that many countries in Europe and Asia have also adopted a later school starting age of around 6/7 years link

she misses out this bit - "At the age of seven, the male child was enrolled in the agoge under the authority of the paidonómos (παιδονόμος), or "boy-herder", a magistrate charged with supervising education...The boys lived in groups (agélai, "herds") under an older man"
link I wonder if she'll pack her boy off to boarding school at seven?

There's so much woo on that blog and the 'add natural sweeteners not sugar' erm... agave syrup, honey... its all sugar

and the 'cures' so far she has said she can cure autism by cleansing the body of mercury, Allergies and diabetes with a raw food diet and 'mental invitations' cause illness.

I wont bore you all Grin

RedLarvaYellowLarva · 22/07/2016 18:16

Anyone got a link to the existing eco community in CR?

ElspethFlashman · 22/07/2016 18:25

No, it was in the Mirror interview. No further details about it.

RedLarvaYellowLarva · 22/07/2016 18:27

Shame. I was gonna start a gofundme to go! ;)

Just reading the comments on the fundmytravel begging page. Oh my!

SouperSal · 22/07/2016 18:27

They actually want £150k........

Fomalhaut · 22/07/2016 18:36

Spartans?? Does she have any idea how Spartan society was structured?? And what happened to 'weak' children?

Jeez, she's a nut job. And ignorant. So so so so ignorant

HeyRobot · 22/07/2016 18:38

Is there any illness that it could be a good idea to get a child to fast during? I don't think I've ever had anything that I was given that idea for except for when I've had vomiting and it wasn't really fasting just wait a bit before trying a little food.

HeyRobot · 22/07/2016 18:38

And idea should have been advice - thanks autocorrect.

HeyRobot · 22/07/2016 18:39

Didn't the Spartan leave their children on hillsides?

TheDevilMadeMeDoIt · 22/07/2016 18:39

In every photo of Ulysses breastfeeding, it looks like she's shoving his face into her boob and forcing him to look like he's sucking. None of them look as though (a) he's enjoying it or (b) doing it for real.

Cagliostro · 22/07/2016 18:50

I wondered that too - he didn't really look latched on, although maybe it does look different in bigger children

Lorsaidthedean · 22/07/2016 18:52

I wonder if they got paid for the interviews (and if they declared the income to the DWP/Council.)

lljkk · 22/07/2016 18:59

I'm sure they were paid for the interviews.
The Spartans left weak or deformed babies out to die of exposure/animal feeding.
Girls & boys were trained for warfare from a young age.
I don't sense the Allens are the warrior types, I may be wrong. Grin

Maybe they ought to grow some food in that garden, a compost bin few seeds they would save a fortune! But then That would involve excercise and work! I need a greenhouse who wants to fund it for me?Grin

Idliketobeabutterfly · 22/07/2016 19:16

I thought they were growing plastic tat in their garden. Tbh though you can actually grow a fair amount in a small garden but it is hard work.
