WWYD car parked on our drive

Marsaday · 19/07/2016 21:48

Some complete asshat has left their car parked on our drive.

It has been there at least since my OH got home at 4.30, but could have been there all day.
Have phoned 101 and police say not reported stolen but they won't do anything as the car is on private land and not blocking us in. It's not a car that we recognise as belonging to neighbours and we're not near a hospital, station, airport etc.
We have currently parked across the drive preventing said car from leaving and left our phone number on the window. However, as we have a baby and a toddler our phones are on silent at night.
WIBU to leave the car blocked in until morning?
Or how can we get the car moved?

Meh. People are too possessive. So you can't park on your drive for a few hours. Who cares?! It's not going to be there for days.

Lollies, yes "Where do you expect me to park, then?" is the response I usually get. Well, anywhere really except on my f-ing drive! Especially the times when I can't get on it myself!

Alleycat1 · 21/07/2016 18:38

Harry, sometimes it is there overnight!

JohnCheese · 21/07/2016 18:38

Aw read the whole thread and no real conclusion!!

Love some of the suggestions.

I know (actually know irl) someone who parked in a perfectly legal space but one that clearly didn't suit someone. When they came back, the car had been turned the opposite way. Which meant someone/people had physically lifted the car and plonked it wrong way around!Grin

Notmuchtosay1 · 21/07/2016 18:43

That's disappointing to read it all and no conclusion!!

P1nkP0ppy · 21/07/2016 18:45

We had someone park inside the gateway of one of our fields. For three days, we checked it wasn't stolen.
Pity that was the field where pig shit was being spread and the car was in the way. Even bigger pity that we needed to dump several trailers of cow do dah there as well. 😀
Someone eventually returned after seven days and dug their way out, no idea who it was.

Marysunshine · 21/07/2016 18:51

I can't believe the police won't act on this - doesn't law on trespass apply?
Call your local councillor and see advice a sap.
Otherwise - agree with saggy - - call auto key company. They will assume it's yours as its on your drive - then shift it off your drive. Assume you have decent neighbours 'who won't see a thing'.

LollieB · 21/07/2016 18:55

HarryElephante what a stupid thing to say. We have residents only parking where we are, so we'd get fined if we parked on the streets. Wonder if you are one of the dicks who parks on private property?

EweAreHere · 21/07/2016 19:17

Still hoping the mystery is solved just so you can lay into them....

WhineWhineWINE · 21/07/2016 19:24

Evil I know, but I'd be dying to sneak out under cover of darkness and let all four tyres down so they can't just sly off when you're not looking. In real life though I'm a total wimp and probably wouldn't do it!

CasanovaFrankenstein · 21/07/2016 19:24

Not sure if anyone else has posted

From about 1.15 Wink

Marysunshine · 21/07/2016 19:29

Yes Whine - think we'd secretly all like to see tyres down and nasty scratch down one side.

chubbylover78 · 21/07/2016 19:37

Is key it down the side. They're parked on private property without permission therefore it invalidates their insurance and they're parked at their own risk.

StrangeLookingParasite · 21/07/2016 19:47

RTFT.

sambly · 21/07/2016 20:21

Popcorn on waiting for.... what happens next!!!!

exWifebeginsat40 · 21/07/2016 20:22

marysunshine trespass isn't against the law though. it's a civil matter between the landowner and the alleged trespasser.

prettylegsgr8bigknockers · 21/07/2016 20:26

Do what saggynaggy said on 1st page of thread! excellent idea!

John4703 · 21/07/2016 20:28

I'll admit that I've not read all 26 pages of posts but I have every sympathy with the OP. It is her drive and no-one should park there.
Someone parked in a parking space belonging to my boss and he was livid, well it did not belong to him but it was in an underground car park where we worked.
He got a few of his staff to obtain a length of very heavy chain and we put it round the back axle of the car and also round a solid concrete pillar. When the driver tried to drive off he came to a very sudden and expensive stop. As it was in a private car park his insurance would not pay and the police said it as nothing to do with them (this was in about 1965 so laws might have changed now).
Another totally different situation, I was out with a mate and got back to his house and someone had parked blocking his driveway. We very carefully parked his car very close to the front of the offending vehicle and my car behind. By close I mean less than an inch away.
A while later the door bell rang, this "gentleman" asked if we knew who the cars belongs to, we told him and he asked us to move them, we said no and that we had photos of his car and his number and would sue him for any damage to either of our cars. He called the police, they asked when we would be moving out cars, we said in a week or two, the police said that was fine as we were legally parked.

He moved it three days later as we need our cars then.

Marsaday · 21/07/2016 20:31

Update!
But not a very exciting one.
The offending car is still parked on the street, just along from our dropped kerb, and I've still no idea who it belongs to!

MiddleClassProblem · 21/07/2016 20:36

I wonder if it's someone staying with someone and they moved it yesterday when they saw you had gone out

ginger1976 · 21/07/2016 20:51

Wtf?? How dare someone do that? It annoys me when people use our drive to turn around in never mind parking on it!!

We got sick of people parking their car in one of our fields that was convenient for the bus to the airport. Just because the lazy buggers wouldn't pay for airport parking. They were trespassing but the police didn't want to know.
They admitted to this and 'We thought you wouldn't mind' was the response.
Here where we live now the Army will remove any unrecognised vehicle.

mummyB1 · 21/07/2016 21:01
