WWYD car parked on our drive

Marsaday · 19/07/2016 21:48

Some complete asshat has left their car parked on our drive.

It has been there at least since my OH got home at 4.30, but could have been there all day.
Have phoned 101 and police say not reported stolen but they won't do anything as the car is on private land and not blocking us in. It's not a car that we recognise as belonging to neighbours and we're not near a hospital, station, airport etc.
We have currently parked across the drive preventing said car from leaving and left our phone number on the window. However, as we have a baby and a toddler our phones are on silent at night.
WIBU to leave the car blocked in until morning?
Or how can we get the car moved?

I had my first message deleted! In fairness, I did direct some bad language at another poster..... For being a dick.

DarkBlueEyes · 21/07/2016 14:50

So cheeky for parking on your drive!! Keep them blocked in ;)

SparkleMotions · 21/07/2016 17:05

I live in an apartment building where every flat has one assigned space, i once had some cheeky idiot park in my space for 4 days - was heavily pregnant at this time and about to pop so needed space clear for when my mum was inevitably going to arrive to take us to hospital. Left a note stating this after it had been there one day, but was still there for 3 more days, along with my note. Later found out it was some cheeky cow who lived on the ground floor who had just decided to park there and offered no apology for using our space without permission!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 21/07/2016 17:27

Re the tradesman. He obviously you who jumped on me wasn't working for me when he parked on my drive. He'd been round to quote a few weeks earlier and then was never heard of again until he turned up parked on my drive because "I didn't think you'd mind love".

SooBee61 · 21/07/2016 17:30

She'd have to prove it was her car. Otherwise car thieves would use this tactic all the time!

6demandingchildren · 21/07/2016 17:31

Place marking

SooBee61 · 21/07/2016 17:34

Is it an old banger that could have been abandoned? You can't check tax as we don't need to put discs in window any more.

manicmij · 21/07/2016 17:37

May not be at fault as parked on private ground! Local Authority could perhaps deal with this as an abandoned car.

MHnurse16 · 21/07/2016 17:37

Absolutely out of order!!!

Block them in until you can't block em no more!!!!!

MammyV · 21/07/2016 17:43

I'd put a fence up and technically fence it in, and then use the car as a garden display, potted plants hanging out the exhaust, pots and soil on the roof etc couple of gnomes here and there, just to blend it in really 😳

pkel1 · 21/07/2016 17:44

You can check tax disc for any car, just need the reg and the make of the car

It's the new normal. I'm afraid that those of us who have a problem with it are the ones in the wrong. If you complain or if it makes you angry you are a bad person. Just try and fit in. Try and act that way yourself. It'll be easier on you that way.

livinginthefastlane · 21/07/2016 17:45

Cheeky beggars! Has it been moved yet OP? If not then I hope its because you are still blocking it in Grin

LizziesDad · 21/07/2016 17:48

Tow it into the road and then call the police about an abandoned car.

Blocking it in could result in vandalism to your car.

SoupDragon · 21/07/2016 17:53

Did I imagine the bit where the OP said the driver waited till she had gone out and moved it off the drive and it was now parked on the road?

luffbunny78 · 21/07/2016 17:53

Place marked Smile

Alleycat1 · 21/07/2016 17:59

I used to live 2 roads back from the beach and this used to happen regularly. We got so sick of it that we moved. Unfortunately, a school has been built nearby after 10 peaceful years and we have the same problem all over again, so we're off to rural (very) France!

MrsMimmy · 21/07/2016 18:01

Glad it's moved, shame you didn't see who it was; bet it's someone local, they've been watching out the window for when everyone's out and they can move it surreptitiously...

SC2017 · 21/07/2016 18:07

This has happened to us in the past, advised to phone the council and speak to parking enforcement who came round and put a ticket then towed it away all within half hour. They will do this to anyone on my drive or blocking my drive that if I phone and inform them.

asdfghjjkl · 21/07/2016 18:19

that happened in Crowborough earlier this year the house owner had a builders bag of soil delivered behind it and left a trowel note and note saying happy digging. it was all over Facebook and the press picked it up as well

MiddleClassProblem · 21/07/2016 18:20

So late to the party but I brought wine and cake CakeWine

LollieB · 21/07/2016 18:26

We live near a high street and it happens to us often that people park on our drive. People park and then go off shopping and it is obviously private property. Once we came home and couldn't even park on our own drive! When you confront the little feckers, they either pretend that they can't see or hear you or they hurl abuse st you! One of them actually said 'where do you expect me to park then?' I was surprised when one cheeky b*stard did it, but even more surprised that there seems to be loads of people who have the bare faced cheek to do it.

Outnumbrd · 21/07/2016 18:27

How cheeky!
