WWYD car parked on our drive

Marsaday · 19/07/2016 21:48

Some complete asshat has left their car parked on our drive.

It has been there at least since my OH got home at 4.30, but could have been there all day.
Have phoned 101 and police say not reported stolen but they won't do anything as the car is on private land and not blocking us in. It's not a car that we recognise as belonging to neighbours and we're not near a hospital, station, airport etc.
We have currently parked across the drive preventing said car from leaving and left our phone number on the window. However, as we have a baby and a toddler our phones are on silent at night.
WIBU to leave the car blocked in until morning?
Or how can we get the car moved?

They have totally been waiting for you to go out so they could dash in and move it! It is deffo some cheeky twat close by.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 20/07/2016 11:21

good idea with watering the car. Does nor harm, and will make owner appear pronto

PovertyPain · 20/07/2016 11:24

Go on, water the car. If you don't do something before they leave, then they're likely to do it again. They will be having a right laugh at your expense. They're simply going to wait until you're not watching and move the car.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 20/07/2016 11:26

Surely parking on someone else's drive without permission is a crime? Trespass to land? Any legal bods here?

ConkersDontScareSpiders · 20/07/2016 11:27

It definitely wasn't a mistake then.if it were they would have at least left you an apologetic note.id be furious!

Propertyquandry · 20/07/2016 11:32

You need one of those special glue sticks made for this issue then glue a large note to the front window. The glue sticks are perfectly legal as they do not damage the windscreen in any way but they take a lot of scrubbing to remove and thus are very annoying.

llhj · 20/07/2016 11:32

Extraordinary! Surely it's trespassing to just drive your car onto someone's land? I mean you can't pitch a tent in a stranger's garden can you?

Can you reverse your car and completely block them in?

goddessoftheharvest · 20/07/2016 11:34

Placemarking.

I agree with watering the car....cheeky sods

c3pu · 20/07/2016 11:35

Genuinely upset the situation didn't come to some sort of cataclysmic resolution...

Yet.

ApostrophesMatter · 20/07/2016 11:39

Agree with trying to block them in so you find out who it is.

Propertyquandry · 20/07/2016 11:40

What makes me angry is that this person will now go about their day with no consequence or retribution. When I rule the world there will be massive consequences for these things.

I was involved in a collision last year. Other driver did something really stupid but swore they didn't. Their friend travelling behind backed them up when it was very clear what had happened. Both signed legal insurance documents stating their POV. I was set to be lumbered with the blame. Then by sheer luck the police notified me that the bus up ahead had some sort of cctv attached to prevent bogus insurance claims on them. Anyway it all proved I was correct but I'm still incandescent with rage that nothing has happened to them or their bloody colluding friends. I think they should both be refused car insurance for 1yr and suffer all the consequences that go along with that. It was clearly obvious what had happened, they lied and almost got away with it. I really don't understand why they aren't charged with fraud. Bastards.

GabsAlot · 20/07/2016 11:47

so you had already asked the neighb ours who all said no its not theirs then the moment u go out its moved

hmm-not quite realiable are they

Marsaday · 20/07/2016 11:53

We didn't knock on every door in the street, there are 32 houses. We did the nearest ones. Plus a fair few there was no answer.

I'm sorry not to join in the hatred towards the mysterious Parker (who for sure is very cheeky!!) but perhaps this was someone you know?

They maybe got stuck and parked for a bit thinking they'd move when they saw you back but then saw this thread or other similar one on fb??!

Perhaps they chickened out of coming to say sorry / thanks after that?

Still poor behaviour but I could see how it could get that way. maybe a gentle fb post to say 'thanks for moving the car - Please drop by so we can move on' would reveal the cheeky one responsible?!

MadeForThis · 20/07/2016 12:12

Place mark Smile

Scoopmuckdizzy · 20/07/2016 12:16

I need to know what is going on Confused

If that's the case then why did they not move in the 5 hours between us getting home and putting thread on here and local FB page?

OP posts:
BluePancakes · 20/07/2016 12:44

Maybe it's a MNer who has seen the error of their ways? after reading this thread and realising they don't want dog shit under the door handles

Pinkerbeller · 20/07/2016 12:45

Cheeky feckers! Worse still, stalking cheeky feckers waiting till you nipped out!

rollonthesummer · 20/07/2016 12:45

Got stuck?

On the OP's driveway?!

I have been driving for a very long time and can safely say I have never 'got stuck' on a stranger's driveway!!

I would put a note under the windscreen wiper, words to the effect, "As you had the brass neck to park on our drive without asking, I would have thought you might have the guts to apologise and not just wait for us to go out so you could move it unseen. Disappointing. Please do not park on or across our drive."

MephistoMarley · 20/07/2016 12:56

How do you few stuck and park on a random person's driveway? In what universe?

facepalming · 20/07/2016 12:56

Oh sorry I forgot being reasonable isn't allowed on mumsnet! if everyone was as ballsy in rl as they are here we would all be clubbing each other over the head for stepping the wrong way out of our front door each morning!
