WWYD car parked on our drive

Marsaday · 19/07/2016 21:48

Some complete asshat has left their car parked on our drive.

It has been there at least since my OH got home at 4.30, but could have been there all day.
Have phoned 101 and police say not reported stolen but they won't do anything as the car is on private land and not blocking us in. It's not a car that we recognise as belonging to neighbours and we're not near a hospital, station, airport etc.
We have currently parked across the drive preventing said car from leaving and left our phone number on the window. However, as we have a baby and a toddler our phones are on silent at night.
WIBU to leave the car blocked in until morning?
Or how can we get the car moved?

As I said I'd be fuming if I was blocked in or if someone was parked on my drive way blocking my entrance. It isn't the case here! No harm done really

WottyMcWottFace · 20/07/2016 01:46

How rude!! Get them clamped by one of the ridiculously expensive private companies!

JudyCoolibar · 20/07/2016 02:05

VenusRising, a car in the driveway that no-one can move does block access, not least to a fire engine or ambulance.

VenusRising · 20/07/2016 02:10

Jury, if you read the OP you will see that the OP has stated that car is not in fact blocking her drive.

I think everyone's got hot under the collar about a car, perhaps innocently parked perhaps not, but now illegally blocked by the OP.

JudyCoolibar · 20/07/2016 02:23

She says it's not blocking anyone in - i.e. it's not preventing anyone from coming out. But the fact that it's on her drive demonstrates that it's blocking anyone from coming in. For most purposes that's not against the law, but it would stop a fire engine or ambulance that needed to get near to the house.

RainyDayBear · 20/07/2016 02:34

Marking place, I love a good parking thread!

giraffesCantReachTheirToes · 20/07/2016 02:42

bloody cheek

Italiangreyhound · 20/07/2016 02:49

It's annoying and weird but I agree with VenusRising "they know where you live".

I do sometimes let friends park on my drive as we have a big drive (not a big house) and are near a school and church. Is it possible it is an accident and they've parked in the wrong drive.

Would a polite note to explain that you don't know the vehicle and this is a a private drive not work?

DesolateWaist · 20/07/2016 03:09

Well I've just read the whole thread in a fit of being too hot to sleep.

I can't believe anyone would have the near nerve to do such a thing.

BoboBunnyH0p · 20/07/2016 03:10

Place marking

DesignedForLife · 20/07/2016 04:27

I used to live on a terraced road where our house was one of only two with a drive. Right ny a train station and the road and all others close by were permit holders only. Came home from work one day to find a car say on our drive, not only taking up space but blocking access to where a second car could park. Had to park miles away as did t have a permit for the road (they were expensive). Turned out to be housemates' boyfriends boss. He thought we didn't need it Hmm

Champagneformyrealfriends · 20/07/2016 04:44

Can't sleep. Placemarking.

icanteven · 20/07/2016 05:23

To early for news yet, so place marking!

Florrieboo · 20/07/2016 05:26

If it is there overnight it could be there for a lot longer......

DeathStare · 20/07/2016 05:36

Chill out, it's only a car in the drive, and doesn't block access.

So if you have multiple seats in your lounge and came home to find a stranger sitting on one of them watching your TV would you be happy to let them stay there as long as there was still room for you to sit down and you could still see the TV?

Sierra259 · 20/07/2016 05:36

Placemarking. Cheeky fucker! This would give me the rage! Angry

Thingsthatmakeugoummmm · 20/07/2016 05:45

So cheeky!

layla2016 · 20/07/2016 05:56

Bloody cheeky! (Although I always worry about this happening when the garage returns my car from its MOT when I'm on holiday.....)

Dizzydodo · 20/07/2016 06:14

Place marking as based on the lack of driveways in your area and the event on this weekend I think we live in the same place which makes me extra curious about the outcome! And if you do live where I think op the parking around here is terrible but I would be fuming if someone parked on my drive (if I had one!), don't let them get away without at least a flea in their ear!

thewookieswife · 20/07/2016 06:15

Is it still there ?!

MustStopAndThinkBeforePosting · 20/07/2016 06:20

I think I saw this on Facebook when it happened - can't remember but it struck me as the perfect solution if you need to use your car rather than leaving it there for blocking in.

Arrange for a same-day delivery of half a ton of something you can use is the garden (manure/topsoil/gravel) - something that will be delivered in a pile at the front of your property. i.e. in a pile forming a barrier between the car and the exit. When the entitled wanker returns to their car, provide them with a spade and a wheelbarrow so they can get shovelling.

The previous occasion I saw this, I think it was sheer chance that the entitled wanker parked there the day that such a delivery had already been scheduled - I don't know if same-day delivery is possible to arrange at no notice.

insancerre · 20/07/2016 06:27

Buy a wheel clamp and clamp the cheeky sods

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 20/07/2016 06:31

Need to know what happens...

I have been the recipient of an angry note for parking on a street where there were no parking restrictions - just some entitled twat who thought they owned the road as well...

embo1 · 20/07/2016 06:32

Bird seed every now and then, so there is no evidence of 'fowl' play when they get back... Or worms? A note stuck on the windscreen with parcel tape, the kind that leaves the stucky stuff behind... Could you be spray painting a fence or messily clearing your gutters today? Something sweet and sticky sprinkled over... Its going to he hot, so will attract flies.. But seriously, they know where you live..

WhisperingLoudly · 20/07/2016 06:34

Some people are shameless Shock
