AIBU?

To not let my 13 year old get Pokemon go

AIBU to not let my daughter who is 13 get Pokemon go because I think it's pointless and a waste of time and people are being ridiculed for playing it.

It just seems like a silly fad that will blow over.

It's actually not as bad as all that for data usage, I've used 85 mb of data since the 7th with fairly consistent use. I use more for Instagram that Pokemon

And just to lighten the mood of my post!

Forget Pokemon Go as this app finds glasses of Chardonnay

I agree with billsykes and kitty my kids are not having it. Maybe in the summer holidays when we can all go out together but not yet and they already run their data usage up as it.

I have discovered you can hunt Pokemon from the passenger seat of a car. Wouldn't advocate doing it while driving mind you.

I'm convinced it's actually a game developed by dogs to get an obscene amount of walkies action now!

Definitely! SoupDogg is delighted.

Had it an hour and this 38 year old is loving it and actually wants to take a walk around the town as can see purple leaves at several nearby locations :)

Pokemons are bad though as there are lots in the local pub, which I can just reach from the sofa :) am going off on some serious Pokemon hunting tomorrow although seems to be a massive battery killer!

DS downloaded it..(or whatever you do) after having to lie about his age as it wouldn't let him have it even though we did the parental email thing.

He then said there was one in the living room next to the ironing board.

Bastard didnt do any of the ironing though

I am currently sitting in the hospital with DD and playing it. I think it is a fabulous new bit of fun, and it takes her mind off the matter at hand. We have caught 10 today.

I the thing is pretty much all the examples on this thread are either parents or elder brothers and sisters taking younger children. Of course there's dangers, more than prehaps other games. But I think it's like geocaching it's a family activity not to be played on the child's own.

And if those were the reasons given in the op, kitty then I think the replays would have been yes see your points but can you put Measures in place to protect your child, such as going with, setting time limits, portable battery chargers.

But they weren't, and I know op you've now let her use it. I'm sure she'll enjoy having the app and talking to her friends about it. They were because it's a waste of time, well not sure walking is ever a waste of time, and it's a fad, yes it is, but lots of things kids want and play are fads, and prehaps this will be but its not a reason to stop the child having it.

You don't have to stare at the phone as you walk. Mine vibrates when I find one so then I can capture it.

Love it!

Reading some of the stories for local businesses it is really amazing what it has done for them, talks of them adding Lures and finding 20 people walking in!

Pub near my house must be doing this as many pokemons still having wine --wonders if pissed pokemons are easier to catch) did laugh when seeing the green leaves and having a quick wonder, lots of pokemons outside the job centre :) although not shown as a Pokemon stop

It's fun for a while but I think it'll die out quickly. So yes YABU. It's a game, you get exercise. But you must tell her the importance of paying attention to where she is walking. I have it and nearly wandering in to a road flicking a ball at a rat character. I am a fully grown adult and I nearly just wandered out in to a road trying to 'catch' a cyber creature.Blush

Yes, OP came back and has given her DD Pokémon Go.

My three DDs all have it and love it.

Yesterday I drove to a shopping area with DD1 who is 21. When I had parked she suddenly asked me not to get out of the car because she wanted to catch a Pokémon that was apparently climbing on me!!! ShockGrin

I have reinforced to mine to play safe and always stay aware of where they are and I have to trust that they do that. They assure me they do.

I did have to strongly remind DD3 (14) this morning that it really was time to go to the school bus, not to track down Pokémons. Grin That is all though.

I want it, but need to upgrade my crappy windows phone to an android one, but I am not eligible to do that for another couple of weeks. Sad
