To think it's not that weird to put DS lunchbox in the washing machine?

Empty of course!

I do this once a week. Rinse it out as normal and then chuck it in with a load of washing. It's a bag type one rather than hard plastic.

Comes out super clean. Grin

Apparently this is weird.

Is it?

No I always do that for the fabric ones. They come out like new!

MammaTJ · 13/07/2016 18:41

Not weird. My friend does her DCs once a week and I do mine when I remember!

littleshirleybeans · 13/07/2016 18:41

I don't think it's weird. But I'd be worried that it might damage it.

age81 · 13/07/2016 18:41

I've done that too, not every week tho more at the end of term.

I use a detox wipe each evening to clean inside.

Niklepic · 13/07/2016 18:41

We do exactly the same. Keeps them nice and clean without the need to scrub them.

Melawen · 13/07/2016 18:42

I had visions of those plastic boxes clanking around the washing machine!! I can't see any reason why you shouldn't chuck a fabric bag in though.

FilthyPout · 13/07/2016 18:42

I do this too, gets rid of any manky food smells that are lingering.
I don't think it's weird!

talksensetome · 13/07/2016 18:42

I do it too.

IsItMeOr · 13/07/2016 18:43

Ooh, I've wondered how to clean DS's lunchbox. Is it this kind of lunchbox you're doing this with please?

2protecttheinnocent · 13/07/2016 18:46

I put dd in the dishwasher comes out clean every time. Never though about the washing machine tbh

Ilovewillow · 13/07/2016 18:46

No not weird I do too! I put it into a pillowcase to protect it - come out super clean! I do the same with the book bags too!

NotYoda · 13/07/2016 18:47

No. As long as it doesn't fall apart

Hermanfromguesswho · 13/07/2016 18:48

I do it too. Yes that type isit

TheSockGoblin · 13/07/2016 18:48

IsItMeOr - Yep that's the type. He has oranges and yoghurts which leave a yucky smell even after you clean it out. Washing machine gets rid of it.

My mother thinks it's odd!

Also the spin cycle means it doesn't take an age to dry after I've scrubbed it in the sink Grin.

It's not damaged it yet so far as I can tell. I think my mum just has certain ideas of how you should do things and doesn't like deviations from those ideas..... Hmm

I do it too!

FaFoutis · 13/07/2016 18:50

Not wierd. But I wouldn't put it in with clothes.

hels71 · 13/07/2016 18:54

I shove DD's in with whichever load I remember at the weekend!!

Discobabe · 13/07/2016 18:57

Yanbu, it's genius. A friend of mine mentioned she did it and I've done it ever since too.

I do it!!!

Idontknowwhoiam · 13/07/2016 19:06

I wash it in the machine. The yogurt gets in the seams and stinks!
I usually do it every week if I remember :)

Idontknowwhoiam · 13/07/2016 19:07

Also I put it in with the reds... not convinced it would be colourfast but happy to wash it woth clothes of the same colour.

RainbowCake · 13/07/2016 19:10

Do it here too. The seams are a pain in the arse to get bits out of. Just got a couple of little cracks in the plastic now but not done badly some October. I've always done it with the flexible ones and DD is nearly 18 now and DS 10.
Personally I think it's crackers not to.

RainbowCake · 13/07/2016 19:11
