To think it's not that weird to put DS lunchbox in the washing machine?

Empty of course!

I do this once a week. Rinse it out as normal and then chuck it in with a load of washing. It's a bag type one rather than hard plastic.

Comes out super clean. Grin

Apparently this is weird.

Is it?

I do it as well. Sometimes even twice a week. Makes it super clean and fresh.

bigbuttons · 13/07/2016 19:13

alway have done with ours.

pippinandtog · 13/07/2016 19:14

Never would have thought of that but what a good idea.

incogKNEEto · 13/07/2016 19:16

I do this too Grin otherwise they get really many, especially as dd quite often forgets hers on a Friday and it festers away all weekend in the classroom Envy eww.

incogKNEEto · 13/07/2016 19:16

Really manky that should say!

storynanny · 13/07/2016 19:21

Still learning on mumsnet even though I am a nanny now! Used to put mine in the dishwasher never thought of washing machine though. I used to put everything else in the washing machine though, from trainers to the class sets of Lego and all sorts of construction bits and pieces at the end of each term when I was teaching full time.
Even used to put my boys cricket boxes in the machine for a good wash after every few matches!

ShelaghTurner · 13/07/2016 19:22

I never have but only because I didn't think of it. Great idea.

GrassW1dow · 13/07/2016 19:23

In the washing machine??? As opposed to dishwasher?

MajesticSeaFlapFlap · 13/07/2016 19:25

Yep I've done it for years, they come up nice and clean and lose that manky yoghurty aroma

LockedOutOfMN · 13/07/2016 19:37

I would do that (we don't have lunchboxes). I clean rucksacks, P.E. bags, any other kind of fabric bag in the washing machine.

EssexGurl · 13/07/2016 20:08

I do this! I find yogurt gets in all the nooks and crannies and I can't get it clean with anti-bac spray.

Only ruined one when it accidentally went in the tumble drier. New one looking like new with a weekly wash.

IsItMeOr · 13/07/2016 22:47

Great - will give this a try with DS's.

EveOnline2016 · 13/07/2016 22:54

Do you open or shut the bag.

imwithspud · 13/07/2016 22:59

Sounds like a good idea to me, I'd put the plastic ones in the dishwasher too.

Nocabbageinmyeye · 13/07/2016 23:22

I do it too, all the time. My mother saw me once and was a bit surprised but thought it was a great idea, I felt a little bit of joy, like I momentarily had the domestic upper hand Grin

jmh740 · 13/07/2016 23:25

I do it too on a delicate wash with their woollen school jumpers every weekend.

ReallyShouldKnowBetterAtMyAge · 13/07/2016 23:27

Open it up and chuck it in.

Always do it this way!
