To wonder whether the Cameron children's absence was authorised?

I am not sure whether the little one is at school, but the other two must be. Can you get authorised absence to watch your dad's last day in his old job?

Nancy is a pupil at a very good state secondary school in Westminster - I believe she is the first child of a serving Conservative Prime Minister to go to a state school.

Of course the children should have a day off school today - it's a very important occasion. I felt a little sorry for them being in the spotlight of the cameras as he made his final speech, especially the little one who has always lived at Downing Street. It must be hard to leave your home at such short notice.

At least he didn't leave any of them behind SmileSmileSmile

Much as I dislike Dave this is pretty pathetic.

Dapplegrey2 · 13/07/2016 19:43

Op did you ask the same question when Gordon Brown's children were photographed with their father leaving Downing St?
I think your post is very petty.

OnesieTheQueensSelfie · 13/07/2016 19:44

Oh, and, seriously OP? Hmm

LaConnerie · 13/07/2016 19:45

Don't know and don't care.

GabsAlot · 13/07/2016 19:47

people miss school for travelling on a weekend?

hardly the same as today-hope the kids dont suffer too much if they have to change schools

CatNip2 · 13/07/2016 19:50

Personally I am not sure how standing down as PM is more important to the Camerons than a grandparent dying to my family, BUT the former would be allowed and the latter not as far as getting a day off.

PS I voted Tory, I voted Remain and I quite like the Cameron's.

And yes, the children in question are state educated at a school in Westminster..

What age does Eton accept pupils? I can't imagine he'll keep his son in state school a second longer than he has to...

PoppyFleur · 13/07/2016 19:55

Nasty & pointless thread.

EverySongbirdSays · 13/07/2016 19:57

Eton is 13 I always thought it was why he wouldn't do a third term, the lad starts a prep in September, and they might move the elder girl unless she's happy.

Odd though, both Blair boys went private and the girl state.... it's like it's less important for the girl Hmm

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 13/07/2016 20:05

They went to meet the Queen. I think any state school would authorise absence for that!

smallfox2002 · 13/07/2016 20:07

Its an axceptional circumstance, he didn't take them out cause it was cheaper to go to Disneyland now did he.

Moving day too!

DetestableHerytike · 13/07/2016 20:09

My school has authorised absence for a public occasion DH was involved in. It depends on the HT.

PurpleTango · 13/07/2016 20:14

My children have been allowed time off school for various occasions. Are you always this petty?

nowahousewife · 13/07/2016 20:14

Blairs boys went to The Oratory which is a catholic state school. Rumour has it that they get get some private tutoring from Westminster School staff though.

CruCru · 13/07/2016 20:17

The daughter goes to the Grey Coat Hospital which, although a comprehensive, is very sought after and I think quite a few politicians' daughters go there. I should think GCH will be quite switched on to the needs of politicians' families in a way that other schools may not be.

To my knowledge, GCH only takes girls and there isn't an equivalent boys' school nearby. This may be why they'd consider going private for their son but haven't for their daughter.

Ivorbig1 · 13/07/2016 20:18

Blair's, Brown's and Cameron's children so far have all been state educated.
I wouldn't say it's a mean thread, quite funny.

nicolasixx · 13/07/2016 20:30

I'm amazed at the comments that "bet they are in private school". Talk about make assumptions without bothering to educate yourself!

Enkopkaffetak · 13/07/2016 20:30

The question was one I wondered too so I googled.

Nancy goes to Grey Coat hospital their last date of term was 5th June

Grey Coat hospital is not just a very good state school people would give their right arm to get their child into this school yes it is state school however it is a highly covered state school.

The younger 2 goes to St Mary Abbots school their last term date was 3rd of June

Hence all 3 are on summer holiday already.

I suspect private schools for secondary will come into place unless GreyCoat has a sibling policy for Florence.

Personally I think thats perfectly fine to do.

esornep · 13/07/2016 20:32

Greycoat doesn't finish until July 15.

UK schools (private or state) don't finish at the beginning of June. The beginning of June was the start of the second half of the summer term.

youwouldthink · 13/07/2016 20:32

Nasty, goady thread

bakeoffcake · 13/07/2016 20:32

3rd of JUNE!? are you sure?

ArmySal · 13/07/2016 20:35

I'm not entirely convinced some posters on MN know what the word goad means.
