To wonder whether the Cameron children's absence was authorised?

I am not sure whether the little one is at school, but the other two must be. Can you get authorised absence to watch your dad's last day in his old job?

Does anyone really care about todays parliamentary extravaganza? Mr cameron took his own decision to go and should have done so a little more low profile imo - that said, I suppose it was not his decision for the media to spend the whole day on it. I even missed Pointless because of it - Doh!!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 13/07/2016 19:15

I don't think the OP intended it to be lighthearted at all.

EverySongbirdSays · 13/07/2016 19:17

This is very sneering of you OP.

OBVIOUSLY it's exceptional circumstances

Ailicece · 13/07/2016 19:17

They'll go to private school, where the rules don't apply....

Not true. Our DCs are at private school and they're stricter than the local state schools when it comes to absences, saying that "their hands are tied by the local authority". Absences are pretty much only authorised in the case of death of a close relative. On the other hand, unauthorised absences have never been fined to my knowledge, but then I don't personally know anyone in a state school who has been fined either.

But your father leaving office as Prime Minister probably counts as a valid reason whether you're in a state school or a private one. You'd hope, anyway.

forkhandles4candles · 13/07/2016 19:19

The boy is in private school, isn't he. Probably finished by now. And bit much turning on open so viciously.

Ackvavit · 13/07/2016 19:20

Bit goady OP. What an experience to be in the HoP watching a change of PM after and extraordinary few months. Bodes well for their History GCSE or A level or Degree in a few years, actually being there after all the turmoil. And yes, now he can send them to private school if he chooses without the world and his wife bitching about it.

Summerwood1 · 13/07/2016 19:21

Not many children will get such a chance!

Ackvavit · 13/07/2016 19:25

Love to know OP opinion on our new PM. I suspect many schools will have permitted the watching of today's events anyway; its educational.

electricflyzapper · 13/07/2016 19:26

What an odd thing to wonder! I was thinking along different lines. I think I read that Nancy started secondary school last year (or this). There was some report about her getting in to a school close to Downing St. My thought was 'where are the Camerons moving to and will she will still be able to attend that school?' Politics aside, it must be hard for the PM's children to move at such short notice and leave their home. I know they have another one in Oxfordshire, but even so....

Has anyone heard it reported where they will live now? Maybe Sam will take the children back to Oxfordshire and David will rent a Westminster flat.

booklooker · 13/07/2016 19:27

Mr cameron took his own decision to go and should have done so a little more low profile imo

How on earth does the PM leave his post 'low profile'

bakeoffcake · 13/07/2016 19:27

No the son isn't at private school, they are all at state schools. at the moment

walruswhiskers · 13/07/2016 19:27

They've got a lovely big house in Notting hill which is currently rented out but the tenants will be out v soon. Expect the children to be in suitable private schools by September.

clam · 13/07/2016 19:28

I will just say that there is no certainty whatsoever that the Camerons will incur a fine. Children in my school have as many holidays in term-time as before the fines, along with leaving on a Friday lunchtime to avoid traffic for a weekend away, missing Mondays due to not wanting to travel home on a Sunday evening, being a bit tired after a late concert/football match/Wimbledon match - you name it.
Unauthorised, yes, but no fines.

walruswhiskers · 13/07/2016 19:29

Lol at leaving PM office being low profile. Was he supposed to say "who wants a brew, I'll put the kettle on" then slip out of the kitchen window while the noise of the kettle covered it up??

clam · 13/07/2016 19:29

If they want a day off for something, parents phone in and leave a message on the answerphone saying, "so-and-so won't be st school today." That's it.

thepothasboiledover · 13/07/2016 19:29

Why are people getting so annoyed at the OP being goady? I mean seriously who doesn't think David Cameron is a lying self persevering money grabbing twat Grin

MollyTwo · 13/07/2016 19:29

They'll go to private school, where the rules don't apply....

So why don't you send your kids to private school and then you can try this too?

Sparklingbrook · 13/07/2016 19:29

It was a huge day for the Cameron family. If any other child in the country's father was standing down as PM and going to see the Queen to resign today I am sure the school would have authorised the absence too.

electricflyzapper · 13/07/2016 19:30

The changeover of the PM is never low profile. Don't you remember Gordon Brown standing in Downing St with his wife and those 2 cute little boys in matching outfits? It was the only time I felt sorry for him, seeing his sweet little family.

Had another moment today, seeing little Florence peeking out between her mother and sister. They are both lucky men to have young families to bolster them at what must be a difficult time.

Charlie97 · 13/07/2016 19:30

My son was chosen to represent his sea scout group at the queens spit head review...he and his pals got authorised absence, so sure the Cameron children are eligible!!

goodbyestranger · 13/07/2016 19:36

It would be a very mean HT who wouldn't authorize the day off, of course it's exceptional - by definition. It was lovely to see the children there, they were an absolute credit to the parents.

goodbyestranger · 13/07/2016 19:37

Got to love Larry too. Larry is cool.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 13/07/2016 19:39

AIBU to wonder why you have so little to do and are so mean-spirited to boot?

BeJayKayven · 13/07/2016 19:39

Snidey and goady, you should be ashamed

OnesieTheQueensSelfie · 13/07/2016 19:39

Larry rules! Grin
