So my bil and his family have rented a house by the sea and invited us to spend the day with them we have 3 small children the same age as there's

Bare in mind it's a 3 hour drive up there so we left at 7 to get there for about 10 so we set off text to say we're leaving didn't hear anything thought they may be getting the kids sorted we then get a text saying we're off to the national park later and to meet them there wtf that was about 9:30 so we were already half way there

We were not dressed to to go walk about in the frigging woods and to be honest after a 3 hour drive that's all my kids would want .we sent a text asking if they
Were they on there way and what entrance would we meet at

Bil then texted back they then say there still in bed and they will meet us there we can wait at the visitors centre.
to get there would have added another 1/2 hour drive to hour jounery

My husband says he's had enough and turns back
To think there are very selfish they bloody invited us if they wanted to go off for a day in the woods then they should have said one would imagine they decided to go before this morning if we had known we wouldn't have even have set off

At no point when they invited to spend the day with them at there beach house was national park mentioned and seeing as it's a 3 hour drive not sure when they expected us to arrive and to be still in bed is just taking the is the reason for all the texting because there weren't answering there phones

That's pretty crappy of them I would have turned back too

Really annoying they waisted our whole bloody day it took us ages to get back in time for lunch and the kids were to knacked to do anything elese

My husband only gets a few days off and so cross they have stolen one of those days

I'd have just turned up at the beach, and told them that's where we are. Then asked if we can use their loo and make some sandwiches.

Yeah, that's annoying. Perhaps they see it differently though, prob not worth falling out over unless they're always like this.

Why didn't you tell them the national park didn't really work for you and ask if you couldn't all go to the beach instead?

If they were still at the house and you were nearly there then I think that I would have carried on & had some time at the beach tbh. I understand why your husband did what he did though.

I would have carried on and had a day out somewhere else. Presumably you could have just done something else instead of wasting your day?

If I'd driven that far, I would have continued to the beach and just had a nice day without the BIL and SIL.

YANBU, but.......I would have gone to the beach with my kids too, and not turned back home. I think if that was their plans, they should have told you well in advance. Or wait until you got there and then discuss options. A 3 hour drive is a lot one way, for a day out.

Erm sorry but no way would i drive for 3 hours for a single day out anyway! - it would've been more polite to ask u to stay over

Very rude and thoughtless of them when you were driving so far for a day out with them (why did you agree to it anyway?). I'd have turned around in a temper too.

Nothing we text back saying we're heading home were not dressed for a jaunt in the woods as we were invited to spend the day with you at the beach house the kids won't really tolatre waiting as you not yet even left the house and we would have spent hours in the car at that point.

God no - that text was warranted. They needed to hear that.

Because they live Down the other side of the country and were renting 3 hours away so thought we could go up early spend the day come back late as my husband dosent often see his brother and the kids hardly know each other

It's not somthing we would have done other wise but the house they rented looked lovey and thought I would actually be a nice day out and it would off if they hadn't been so thought less

Tbh they asked us the thought didn't really occur to us we more than likely would of gone to Lego land were off torrow

They did behave in an irritating way, but you seemed to miss out a middle stage in your negotiating.

Once they were replying to texts, you could have phoned, said ;look we're nearly there, the kids are looking forward to a day at the beach and beach house, so can we see you there? We'll keep driving while you get yourselves dressed!"

To say nothing except 'which entrance' when they first texted even though you were not happy, to just doing a U turn and driving home was mad! Having driven that far you could have gone to the beach on your own and had a better time than driving both ways for nothing!

If I was your BIL I would think you were bonkers, sending that text and going back home after asking 'which entrance'.

We tried the ring them however They were not picking up

Then we realised they had not even left and there bloody plan was for us to wait for them in the visitors centre after we had already driven all that way no thanks

Really abit silly to just turn back! I'd have just gone to the beach and text "at beach, pop down if you want", only an total wanker wouldn't bother. Then you know not to waste time with them again.. As it is, you do look like the ones that had a strop...

I think you could have gone to the beach without them and made the best of the day instead of just driving home. 6 hours in a car for nothing.

I don't know if bil invited us with out informing sil she may have already made plans however they then should have told us what the situation was before we left

I don't understand why you didn't say that you'd prefer to go to the beach instead of the forest as you had already told the children that was how you were spending the day and they were looking forward to it.

Your relatives sound so selfish to assume you would fit in with their plans instead of asking you what you'd like to do as well but driving a six hour journey to end up on your own doorstep was crazy my own DH would have done exactly the same though

I feel quite sorry for your children having spent a day in the car for nothing.
