I think Mattie is a very cute shortening of Matilda.

weebarra · 09/07/2016 18:42

Reminds me of Cranford!

longdiling · 09/07/2016 18:43

I love it. My dd has a friend with that name and she's lovely so it has very good connotations for me!

Love, love, love. I really wanted to use Matilda with the nn of Mattie.

Idiotxit · 09/07/2016 18:46

Love it as a short name of Matilda.

KoalaDownUnder · 09/07/2016 18:48

All the Matildas I know are shortened to Tilly.

Mattie is way cuter!

I don't like it, it sounds too masculine, I prefer Tilda.

detectiv · 09/07/2016 18:53

I don't like the sound of it - prefer Tilda

buckingfrolicks · 09/07/2016 18:53

RainbowDashian · 09/07/2016 18:54

mumoseven · 09/07/2016 18:55

My nan was Martha, but known as Mat or Mattie

BennyTheBall · 09/07/2016 18:55

Love it (loathe Tilda).

Tanith · 09/07/2016 18:56

It's actually an old-fashioned abbreviation. I think one of the girls in The Crown of Success by A.L.O.E. (A Lady Of England) was called Matty.

stabbybitch · 09/07/2016 18:56

I absolutely love it. I don't think it needs a longer full name either.

limon · 09/07/2016 18:57

Matilda is a great name - shortened to tilly or mally. I don't like mattie as it's a surname.

Salzundessig · 09/07/2016 18:57

My daughter is a Matilda and I like the nn mattie. I also like (and use) Tilda. My dh uses Tilly Vanilli Grin

HelloDoris · 09/07/2016 18:58

DD2 best friend at pre-school is called Mattea or Mattie.. I love it Smile

Birdsgottafly · 09/07/2016 19:07

I love the name Matilda, I like Tilly and Tilda, as NNs.

I grew up in a disadvantaged part of Liverpool, with a lot of big, poor families. Everyone of them (I was an only child), seemed to have a very scruffy child called Mattie, short for Mathew. He always did have matty, tatty hair. Paddy always seemed to be further up the pecking order.

So it's got childhood connotations, for me.
