To think my friend totally cockblocked me

Met a guy at the weekend whilst out with my mate. Didn't manage to change numbers, no worries it happens.

The next day she sent me a picture message of a message he had sent her on FB asking for my number (they have a mutual friend). She asked me if I wanted to give it to him and I said yes. A week passed and no fact, she even asked me twice if he had text.

Anyway I've just had a message from him on FB (not sure how as my FB is totally locked down, with my first name and middle name). He said he knows I didn't want to give him my number but wanted to message just in case I changed my mind.

I messaged back and said oh I told X to give it to you. He sent me a screenshot of their convo where she said oh I don't think she's up for it sorry!

She totally just cockblocked me didn't she?

I'm with the friend here.....she trying to save you from having a quick shag with random.

And what a shit stirrer he is for showing you the messages your friend sent! And messaging you when you gad supposedly said you didn't want to be contacted.....

Your friend sounds like a cuntsaver to me.

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 09/07/2016 07:44

Why should she need to be 'saved' from a quick shag with a random? Goodness me. Maybe she wants casual sex, who is the friend, her warden? She was out of line.

Dutchcourage · 09/07/2016 07:44

It's a bit controlling.

She was almost suggesting/giving permission for you to go on date after she cockblocked you. That's nice of her.

Do not discuss your date with her. She sounds like one to watch!

Dutchcourage · 09/07/2016 07:45

lyn are you the 'friend'

op is an adult. She can shag who she likes.

Helmetbymidnight · 09/07/2016 07:55

She sounds horrible.

LynetteScavo · 09/07/2016 07:57

I'm definitely not the friend because I don't know anyone in RL who would ever use the word "cockblock" Grin

I've never heard it before and am trying to work out how to drop it in to conversation with DH.

LynetteScavo · 09/07/2016 08:03

And yes, she can shag who she likes, but sometimes friends know best.

Justmeagain78 · 09/07/2016 08:05

Is a cock block like Lego for adults? Blush

I have known two people like this, neither really a friend of mine but were in the same group of friends.

First one was when I was working in a skiing centre and we all went out quite often. I met a guy in a bar who also worked there, we were both really drunk and I took him back to mine. Got cold feet though (I was young, just 18 at the time) so kicked him out eventually before anything really happened. Few days later went out and this girl joined us. I had difficulties remembering what the guy looked like until I saw him and pointed him out as I wanted to hide. This girl the proceeded to flirt with him and took him to our place (we all shared a house). Again nothing happened (poor guy) but she then said "Im only interested in him because Solina was interested and I knew he would choose me" I was like wtf mainly as I wanted to hide due to being embarrassed about how I got rid of him rather than see him again. But yeah after that there was no way she would ever end up my friend.

The other one is in my current groups of friends, she is nice when its just a female group. But when we went out to a club not that long ago she went off with some guy, then me and my other friend sat there chatting to this guy who was nice but neither of us were attracted to him and he wasnt in either of us. So just a friendly chat. Our other friend saw us at somepoint once she stopped dry humping this guy for a second and then came over to our table. Did the whole flirty giggle and tit thrust thing for ages. When she eventually left to carry on with the dry humping all 3 of us were in awkward silence and eventually the guy just said bye and left.
The friend does this every time as well, doesnt matter whether you are interested or not, she will push in if she sees you talking to a guy. And I am never interested as I have a lovely OH. I have not introduced her to him, my other friend made the mistake and she acted the way she always does.

So yes, I believe your friend is like the two I have met and I would avoid meeting her other than for coffees/lunches etc if you want to stay friends.

Bambambini · 09/07/2016 08:41

Or could have just been a mistake or misunderdtanding. You know your friend better than us.

Helmetbymidnight · 09/07/2016 08:46

How is it a misunderstanding?
She refused to pass on the number.
She told him you weren't interested.
She kept asking you if you had heard from him (knowing you wouldn't have!)

Even if she had sent him the first reply, "by mistake", a normal person would say to their mate - "Oh shit, I told him you weren't interested. I'll give him your number now..."

I wouldn't trust her.

Straycatblue · 09/07/2016 15:39

She went to the bother of screenshotting his request to her to ask for your number.
Asked you if you wanted her to give him your number, you said yes.
She then asked you twice on different occasions if he had texted you after she told him that you werent interested and refused to give him your number.
You mention she has form for this behaviour.

Don't get bogged down with the timestamp route of her defence of whether she forgot to send him the number after you replied yes. After telling him no, she asked you twice about whether he texted, she knows she didnt give him your number.

Most friends would be excited and if he hadnt texted would check their own message containing the phone number to check if it had been "seen" perhaps you could give her the benefit of the doubt if you hadnt said she has form for this kind of behaviour.
She is not your friend and her excuses are gaslighting you.

SomeDaysIDontGiveAMonkeys · 09/07/2016 15:45

A real friend doesn't do things like that and her response sounds v dodgy. I think because she has a crap marriage she wants you to stay single and be as miserable as her. Dump her or at least keep her at arms length. She isn't your friend.

Holowiwi · 09/07/2016 15:51

Wow cockblock is ancient

Cockblock
1.) To interfere with someone who is getting acquainted with, conversing with, or hooking up with a member of the opposite sex

Example
1.) At the club, Sal was was about to get Lisa's phone number, when Nathan came up cock-blocked him by asking him if he found a job yet. He made it even worse when he reminded Sal that they had to hurry up and catch the last bus home. Lisa rolled her eyes and walked away.

Trills · 09/07/2016 15:56

I reckon she texted you twice to ask if he'd been in contact because she knew fine well he wasn't going to as she put him off and she was secretly enjoying knowing she was the reason why.

Yep. I agree.

peggyundercrackers · 09/07/2016 16:00

isn't cockblocking an American phrase?. ive always understood it to be used to describe one man blocking another mans access to a girl - as in one cock is blocking someone elses cock.

never heard it used to describe a woman stopping another woman getting with a bloke.

Marylou2 · 09/07/2016 16:00

I feel really old. I've read the OP twice and I'm bemused as to what it all means. Glad I don't date as it seems confusing.

peggyundercrackers · 09/07/2016 16:00

sorry totally missed point of thread...

damepeanutbutter · 09/07/2016 18:28

When I was single I had a married friend; there were problems in her marriage as she later split although I didn't know that at the time I'm talking about. She hated it whenever I found someone to go out with because she wanted me to be available to her (slightly narcissistic) instantly. The moment I did eventually marry she dumped me and I've never seen her since! Have fun on your ONS date.

Gingersdohavesouls · 09/07/2016 19:09

Lesbian over here and when it happens with us we call it "fannyblocking" "clam slam" or (my fave) "clitoference" 😂
