To think it's too late to be letting off fireworks?

One of my neighbours has just let off a load of extremely loud fireworks. It's gone 10pm for crying out loud!

I realise they have probably waited this late due to the lighter evenings but this is why people don't generally have fireworks in July.

I now have a screaming baby to settle.

Can't be true thatwouldbe (brilliant username by the way) because they would have to be letting them off constantly here if that were the case...

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 03/07/2016 00:03

Thank you blubloom Grin and yes ditto there'd be so many being let off here it would be as bright as daytime 24/7 Grin

It's Eid. Either the crescent moon has been spotted early, or they've just started celebrating early. It's due to start on Monday, but obviously for a lot of people that won't work out logistically for their celebrations so they're doing them when they break their fast over the weekend instead.

bluebloom · 03/07/2016 00:10

thatwouldbe yes it would be veeeeery festive here too. May suggest this to some of the locals. Would certainly liven things up.

WorraLiberty · 03/07/2016 00:13

Eid is on Wednesday as far as I know.

I have a squaking baby next.door. The mother is droping another ine in two weeks time They have let off fireworks.

I work for the Post Office I get up early. Soon as I get home the baby starts crying again. NO FUCKING PEACE. I only want to sleep for an hour when I get home from work but the fucking baby starts crying. Then the cunt of a mother asked me to nit use my vac at 08.30pm on a Friday night PFB cunt . AYE.

BillSykesDog · 03/07/2016 00:27

My mistake, Eid is Tues/Weds:

www.birminghammail.co.uk/whats-on/whats-on-news/eid-al-fitr-2016-11549880

But it's sort of like, the weekend before Xmas being the big one for celebrations. There are celebrations every night for breaking fast during Ramadan, so the weekend before Eid those fast breaking celebrations are big ones, eg fireworks. Plus it is at fast breaking time so makes sense.

Cockadoodledooo · 03/07/2016 00:31

Thanks for the Confused

I'm well aware fireworks are used for any occasion anyone sees fit. Personally I found them more, I dunno, 'special', when they were limited.

I think they should be solely confined to licenced organised public displays, not available to the world and his dog to let off in their back yard. And I speak as someone who has been injured by a firework in just such a situation.

WorraLiberty · 03/07/2016 00:39

I'm well aware fireworks are used for any occasion anyone sees fit.

So they're not 4 months too early then - hence the Confused face.

Yeah that could be it Bill, makes sense.

BillSykesDog · 03/07/2016 00:42

Personally I found them more, I dunno, 'special', when they were limited.

Who's to say what they should and should be limited to though? And in all fairness, they're Muslims, it's not like they can get pissed, not going to begrudge them a few bangers at their parties.

hotdiggedy · 03/07/2016 01:10

BillSykesDog

I cant think of any Muslim that would be interested in setting fireworks off in the evening during Ramadan. The only celebrations going on during Ramadan are eating in the evening and lots of prayers. I'm not sure what you mean by comparing it to the weekend before Christmas with lots of parties going on. Its still Ramadan, people are still fasting, not having elaborate parties with fireworks.

BillSykesDog · 03/07/2016 01:24

Eh? Really?

This is tomorrow in Luton:

m.facebook.com/events/157018058044172/

Also in lots of Muslim cities cannons, fireworks and rejoicing are used to announce the end of the daily fast. There are lots of car horns and music every night when the fast breaks where I live and Iftar parties are commonplace and even held by local government. And of course because these are the last few the celebrations are getting bigger.

I'm very dubious, Iftar parties are normal.

hotdiggedy · 03/07/2016 01:31

No, that event wont be tomorrow, it will be the night before Eid. Chand Raat is some kind of pakistani/bengali celebration and all the cars with music blaring also seems to be poplar among young pakistanis in this country. Its nothing to do with Ramadan though (in the religious sense). You break your fast, you do your prayers and lots of reflecting. You dont go driving around all night blaring loud music if you want to do Ramadan properly!

hotdiggedy · 03/07/2016 01:32

Iftar parties should just be food and prayer really.

BillSykesDog · 03/07/2016 01:37

It is tomorrow, it says on the event. Anyway, that's like saying that doing Christmas properly is all about Christ and going to Church. That may well be true, but it doesn't mean that's the way people do it. It's definitely Ramadan round here. The fireworks at fast breaking are always on the first and last few days of Ramadan plus Eid. And there is lots of horn honking and loud music from cars. Might not be the way it's supposed to be done - but that doesn't mean it's not the way it is done!

hotdiggedy · 03/07/2016 02:00

Er, no, I can assure you that Chand Raat is the night before Eid, so it will be Monday night or Tuesday night. Well, I will just point out that spending the whole day fasting and the night driving around beeping your horn and blaring loud music is quiet likely not going to result in a successful Ramadan.

IPityThePontipines · 03/07/2016 03:39

Eid is Eid, Ramadan is Ramadan. Fireworks happen in the former, not the latter. Particularly in the last 10 nights, when people are usually making an extra effort to attend night time prayers at the mosque.

Sallystyle · 03/07/2016 04:38

Yes, in Norwich.

I watched the floats. They were extremely crap. Even crapper than normal that is.

NicknameUsed · 03/07/2016 07:36

Why do they have to be so loud?

You can get quiet fireworks that are just as pretty.

BlackeyedSusan · 03/07/2016 09:29

Apparently 10.30 is not late if you live round here. Not unusual to here them until gone 1am.

Penfold007 · 03/07/2016 09:36

Locally here it's Americans celebrating Independence Day (July 4th). Diwali and Chinese New Year are worse the fireworks are allowed to go on until 1am.
