It doesn't do anything for me. Confused
All that silly whispering, from left to right. I don't get it. Confused
Am I being an old grump?

Or is it simply a case of finding the right one?

Did anyone else used to get it from Watercolour Challenge and/or Art Attack?

Buzzardbird · 01/07/2016 11:02

How does no-one else get the rage listening to the videos? The horrible clicking sound of their mouths and one of them burped!
Urgh! The swallowing sounds and the lip smacking are quite the opposite of relaxing!

Moonlight Sonata is the only thing that gives me the tingles.

LittleMissUpset · 01/07/2016 11:02

Ooh this sounds interesting, I have misophonia too, and my ears are really sensitive, I hate people whispering into my ear, or talking close to my ears!

It would be great if I could find something I like to put on when other sounds are triggering my misophonia!

I find some voices really soothing and others really annoying, I love music and Mumford and sons Marcus has a lovely voice, it gives me goosebumps so even though that's a different thing as its music, hopefully I might find something I like.

SnakeWitch · 01/07/2016 11:10

Oh wow, I was wondering about this yesterday, turns out I'm not a weirdo! Hearing other people washing up, ironing and painting sets me off.

IceRoadDucker I accidentally discovered an old programme from the 70s called The Joy of Painting - see if you can find it it's so relaxing!

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 01/07/2016 11:34

I can't bear lip smacking and wet mouth sounds. Some videos are awful - the best artists have expensive microphones and equipment which makes them better.
I can't listen to men's videos either - they just seem creepy. I suspect they invoke subconscious memories of being soothed by my mother when I was very young

PetraStrorm · 01/07/2016 13:46

snakewitch iceroad - the Bob Ross I mentioned above is the guy in the Joy of Painting, and there's a YouTube channel called (oddly enough) Bob Ross that has dozens and dozens of episodes.

I get it from all kinds of arty programmes - but the combination of painting and either Bob Ross's voice, or Hannah Gordon's in watercolour challenge is a perfect combination :-)

MitzyLeFrouf · 01/07/2016 13:50

Oh yes, Bob Ross is amazing! Some cookery shows can be great too.

Latentprint · 01/07/2016 18:53

I listened to one where for nearly an hour (was probably only minutes but felt like an hour) she went from left to right ear, blowing in the ears.

I ended up with mild earache.

Why do they do those disgusting wet lip smacking sounds?

I quite like the crinkling cellophane sounds and I wish there were more liquid sounds.
The sound of milk being poured (preferably trickled) into tea is very relaxing, then the stirring with the spoon.

I too hate the 'whispering' videos, too much of a saliva tsunami.

The only videos that work for me are 'unintentional' ASMR where the person has a soothing voice, usually medical exam or massage settings.

Like this

BertieBotts · 01/07/2016 19:15

I hate all of it. Agree the saliva sounds are especially bad.

One thing I really hate though and always have is the sound of cellophane/plastic bags. It's one of the worst sounds in the world IMO.

BertieBotts · 01/07/2016 19:18

I do believe in ASMR but it does nothing for me and I find the sensation irritating.

I find people playing with my hair and any light touch irritating too which might be why.

dailymaillazyjournos · 01/07/2016 19:27

I love it and find it really helps me get to sleep and relax me. I cannot stand those who make lots of wet mouthy sounds though. And quick tapping on things also drives me bonkers. But my go-to people are asmrbylisa, Oliviakissper, gentlewhispering and Asmr SuperTingles, who don't do any of the things I've listed. When I was little I used to love the sound of paper bags rustling, the noise of other kids pencils at school and certain peoples whispers. I never knew it was a 'thing' till one day I searched online for "sound of paper bags rustling" and found asmr videos. I sleep a lot better since I found this about 3 years ago.

oohahhjustalittlebit · 01/07/2016 19:37

The talking ones dont do anything for me, but the non talking ones are better.
However someone fiddling with my hair, brushing it straight down my back or gently tickling me has an almost trance like effect. One of my dc is the same and also loves it, one of my dc hates it.

ladymalfoy · 01/07/2016 19:50

I get it when I see other people getting a hair cut or massage. I get so strongly chilled out.

PersonalClown · 01/07/2016 20:07

I cannot do any videos with talking/whispering.

I like brushing and sand ones.

Triggers can be wide and varying. What works for someone may not work for you.

dailymaillazyjournos · 01/07/2016 21:53

Personalclown I love that zen garden one too. But prefer talking because I usually listen to them with my eyes closed and need more sound. I agree that what one person likes, another may absolutely loathe or find it not relaxing at all.

recall · 01/07/2016 22:08

My trigger is watching people write, no way is it bullshit, I experience an intensely pleasurable physiological sensation at the back of my neck. It radiates like warm honey over my scalp. I first experienced it in maths when this girl was showing me how to do long division. I just sat there overwhelmed with pleasure, pretending to be stuck so she would elaborate Grin
Thing is with ASMR, if you don't get it - you don't get it
