It doesn't do anything for me. Confused
All that silly whispering, from left to right. I don't get it. Confused
Am I being an old grump?

Or is it simply a case of finding the right one?

My friend had severe hyperacuity, she's found ASMR a godsend. It does absolutely nothing for me Confused

Nanunanu · 30/06/2016 22:47

Nope I hate it. Want to throwe my phone across the room whenever i hear it
Ugh!

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 30/06/2016 22:47

Ok, my favourite two youtubers are whispers red and gentle whispering. Heather feather is popular but not my fave.

Atlas15 · 30/06/2016 22:48

Just done it.
It worked-ish for me. I get it.

MaddyHatter · 30/06/2016 22:48

Its not bullshit Jane, its a scientifically measured and proven response.

Its simply the fact that certain noises causes a tingling sensation in the scalp and down the spine that some people find pleasurable.

How you can call something that is a proven physical response that some people experience 'bullshit' is beyond me.

Latentprint · 30/06/2016 22:49

I watched one where someone pretends to massage your scalp with one of those pronged head massagers.
It didn't work.
So, I went and got my head massager for real and used it.
It worked. Confused

Atlas, which one was it? You have to say.

Oh, it gives me the burning rage. I don't think I have misphonia though - but i do have a hatred of grown women doing 'little girl' voices. And I'm quite grumpy, generally.

I skipped a quarter way through where she was tapping this glass. It kind of feels like someone just played with your hair, like the after feeling if that makes sense.

Latentprint · 30/06/2016 22:54

Okay, I'm off to try that one.

I may be some time.

Classical music can give me a tingling in my scalp-spine resulting in goosebumps

Is it like that?

Anniegetyourgun · 30/06/2016 22:54

Eww.

Eww to the played-with hair feeling that is, not the classical music!

janethegirl2 · 30/06/2016 22:55

no comment, but it's obviously horses for courses and all that stuff. Not my bag! Science is seriously misunderstood and used to 'prove' all sorts of 'stuff'. As a real scientist, I still call bullshit on this stuff!

CakeNinja · 30/06/2016 22:56

I discovered this on MN.
A woman was folding towels and speaking softly. It put me to sleep Shock
There are a few that I have nodded off to when I was stressed and thought I'd never sleep.
I haven't googled the ins and outs of it, I just know that it has relaxed me.
If I struggled to sleep in future, I'd watch another one on the iPad and I'm confident it would send me off.
If it doesn't work for you, then it doesn't work for you!

I'm another one who finds them really irritating- the opposite of relaxing!

I think I first experienced this from my ICT teacher in school, the way she spoke was soothing and I didn't want her to stop speaking, so I would call her over to ask for help for random things.

Strange thing is that I explained this to my husband recently and he didn't get it. I didn't even know it was a thing until just now.

Latentprint · 30/06/2016 23:01

I'm back.
Didn't do anything for me. In fact it wound me up.

Classical music can give me a tingling in my scalp-spine resulting in goosebumps

I get that with some music, especially if it's rising to a crescendo.

If anybody wants to get some guaranteed scalp tingles, listen to this:

It's not bullshit. Ever since I was little there have been sounds like have sent my into a bit of a relaxed trance like state. Stuff like people shuffling through paper or clean a keyboard or random things like that. The videos on youtube are just people cottoning onto the fact that lots of people find this stuff relaxing. There are loads of different types of things not just the whispering.

Some people like it some don't.

Titsywoo · 30/06/2016 23:03

Classical music can give me a tingling in my scalp-spine resulting in goosebumps

That's not the same thing. I get that too but it's not the same as ASMR.
