To miss Autumn?

Probably. Grin

I think I have reverse SAD! I'm not really a 'Summer' person. I crave crisp air and dark evenings and hot chocolates by the fire. Anyone fancy a sneaky out-of-season thread about the loveliness of Autumn/Winter?

Another Autumn lover here OP! 🍂🍁🐿🍄🎃 I just wish there was less rain and more crisp cold days, with more red and orange trees around. Like in American/Canadian films!

originalmavis · 29/06/2016 18:42

Dear Miss Autumn. You are early. Can you please send Miss Summer back please?

Oh yes, I do love autumn. It's like a fresh start after muggy summer in London. Perhaps we will get a lovely sunny autumn and a snowy winter this year?

BrieAndChilli · 29/06/2016 19:03

I like summer (in my head) but the reality of it is unexpected showers, sand in your sandwiches, sunburn, bugs, etc!
I love Sep-Dec, for all the reason people have said, various celebrations, blackberry picking, warming comfort food, Christmas (which for me is the whole of december, I do something xmassy every day in December!!) going late night xmas shopping, snow, splashing in puddles in wellies, hot choc, dark evenings.

I never stopped using a winter duvet! Grin

BathshuaSpooner · 29/06/2016 19:17

My people! I live in New England. We are having one long hot summer, which means bugs and migraines to me. I can't wait for the smokey fall air, pumpkins on front porches, sunlight slanting through red and gold leaves...Autumn in New England is absolutely gorgeous.

HumphreyCobblers · 29/06/2016 19:22

I love autumn too.

Susan Hill said it made her feel nostalgic, but for what she didn't know. I agree.

GingerIvy · 29/06/2016 19:23

Beanz thanks. Your name has happily reminded me I need to order more coffee. I forgot to do that yesterday! Eeek!

I sadly will no longer have a fireplace after the move (we have two now), but it has a massive front window through which I am eagerly awaiting a splendid view of autumn leaves and (fingers crossed) a little snow this winter. (I can dream Grin).

Enjoy your new fireplace - I'm going to miss mine. I will have to light lots of candles to make up for it.

I need to find a new candle company to buy from. I've been buying from Yankee Candle but lately they just haven't seemed as nice. I wonder if they've changed something? I don't want to go too expensive, just reasonably priced with a lovely aroma. No flowery stuff. Woodsy, cinnamon, vanilla...

GingerIvy · 29/06/2016 19:34

MrsDoyles I used to live in Maine (New England in the States) and autumn was spectacular there. I loved it.

Beanzmeanzcoffee · 29/06/2016 19:35

Expensive but lovely:

VillageFete · 29/06/2016 19:40

You are sooooo not being unreasonable! This is my kind of thread! I adore Autumn, every single thing about it. Wearing wellies & walking through the park when the air is crisp, lighting my autumnal scented Yankee candles (Sweet apple & Autumn moon are 2 of my favourites!) Pumpkin picking, Halloween planning, the list goes on! I also love Winter.

Bathshua Can I be your friend??! Grin New England is my FAVOURITE place! Although i've only been to Boston & Salem but they were beautiful (Visited in October) My dream is to move to a small town in N.E, possibly Vermont. Where are you based?

sonlypuppyfat · 29/06/2016 19:40

I really struggle with summer, I live in the Midlands and it's always so humid, I sweat so much I'm all sticky I hate it. I love winter proper winter so fresh and lovely

GingerIvy · 29/06/2016 19:41

ooooooooh Beanz thank you. I see a "cinnamon and clove" candle. I loooooove clove.

MrsDoylesTeaParty · 29/06/2016 19:52

GingerIvy and Bathshua I am so jealous EnvyGrin I will definitely aim to get there one day! Ahh those big leafy avenues and golden woods..

I love the smokey smell in Autumn too, why is it more smokey?

MrsDoylesTeaParty · 29/06/2016 19:53

smoky*

layla2016 · 29/06/2016 20:05

Oh I love autumn.

I do like all the seasons if they actually happen but autumn is always just right - crisper days, getting darker earlier, back to school feeling, start of strictly / X factor / downton etc, halloween, bonfire night, counting down to Christmas and all the lovely things involved. I just love bright sun hire on cold crisp frosty days. Bliss.

I too feel nostalgic for something that I can't put my finger on!

BathshuaSpooner · 29/06/2016 20:31

I am in Massachusetts but used to live in Kennebunkport, Maine. I feel lucky to be here ( Scottish born to Massachusetts is a looong way!) The nights start drawing in here around the end of August, just when the leaves start getting touched with colour. Many people burn leaves, which is the smokey tinge to the air as well as putting on the fireplaces.

Beanzmeanzcoffee · 29/06/2016 20:35

Layla2016 I think for me it's the nostalgia of the fresh start that comes with a new academic year (I spent a LOT of time in education) and the build up to Halloween (I'm Irish-it's always been a thing here) and Christmas.

GingerIvy · 29/06/2016 20:42

Bathshua I lived in Machias Maine, my mum's family is from there. I love England, in many ways it is such a similar climate.

Beanz Yes, oddly autumn also makes me think of new sharpened pencils too. I'm sure it's the "new school year" thing.

Notsure1234 · 29/06/2016 20:45

I was just talking to a colleague about this today, she thinks I'm crazy as summer is the highlight of her year.

I'm so excited for Autumn as I have ds to go for lovely walks with this year

BathshuaSpooner · 29/06/2016 20:48

GingerIvy, I so loved Maine! We are spending our summer holidays in Wells. Fall in New England is lovely but the winters tend to brutal..

TheDonOfDons · 29/06/2016 20:49

Oh me too, I was just thinking the other day how much I love Autumn and Winter and miss them.

Reindeerlily · 29/06/2016 20:56

Autumn is my favourite season. Although it's bloody nippy here tonight. Feels a bit autumnal.

VillageFete · 29/06/2016 21:17

Bathshua oh wow! I'm desperate to get to Kennebunk! We were going to do a day trip there, but ended up doing Salem instead. Is it the quaint town I imagine it to be? Like on those made for tv movies, where everyone is neighbourly & kind Grin
