To wonder if child free cabins on planes will ever happen?

Am I the only person who would happily pay for a child free cabin on a plane? We have 4 children and have flown with them both long and short haul when they were younger. I would never have allowed my children to kick seats or be a nuisance to other passengers on flights. I'm actually dreading our holiday in a few days after last years experience when a child had an iPad and watched bloody Paw Patrol for nearly 4 and a half hours. He screamed at the top of his voice "Chase is on the Case" every bloody episode then gave everyone a blow by blow description of what was happening in every episode. Yes, I understand children need to be entertained on long flights BUT the family in question eventually were spoken to by the cabin crew as a lot of passengers in our cabin were complaining about his behaviour. He was jumping on seats and hanging on to back of my seat while he jumped up and down. I tried to put my headphones in but that didn't help when he was rocking my seat by holding onto the headrest and jumping on his. As I said, am I the only person who would happily pay for a child free cabin?

Yanbu. After having to sit for 9 hours behind a family with a baby and a toddler and a father who had completely checked out of parenting and let the toddler scream and kick and pinch his baby sister while the mother was just sitting there helpless... Yes, happily. Kids are a nightmare on planes. Well, it's usually the parents who are the nightmare but the effect is loud obnoxious kids who make it miserable for everyone around them.

Can I borrow your private jet when you've finished with it? Not sure how else you're going to get the airlines to not allow children to be booked onto a flight.

Yes, actually I did. They never kicked seats, screamed or annoyed other passengers. I would never have allowed them to.

I'd happily pay extra for a child free flight. It'll happen in time that these flights will be available. Just like when you book a holiday now you can go to an adult only hotel, and lots of 5 star plus hotels have an adults only pool and bar area.

We paid for extra leg room on a flight home from an adult only holiday (we had left our 6 children at home with various).

On the way home we had a mum with a baby and two toddlers who all simultaneously screamed for the entire flight. Dad had checked out of parenting across the aisle and slept. We didn't and had a 3 hour drive at 1am.

I just felt sorry for the mum (and myself a little bit) but I saw it as Karma for my holiday

I wouldn't say lucky, more that they behaved and didn't annoy other passengers. It's not difficult for goodness sake! "You DO NOT kick the seat in front of you" As I asked in my OP are there others who would happily pay for a child free cabin? Or perhaps you missed the point of my OP?

Oh and yes - I would happily pay for an adult free flight, as on many occasions it's the adults who are drunk and obnoxious on a flight, and the kids can be delightful being kids.

Perhaps try a bit of tolerance OP - that's always helpful.

But I think that people who want to take their children with them should pay the extra. Not me.

I'm flying with my 5 yo tonight. She has ADHD so every one of the around 30 flights she has taken in her life have been extremely difficult. As I'm sure they are for the mum of the autistic boy who flew with us last time. He did what he could to make the flight bearable for himself and she did what she could to support him. It wasn't quiet. The baby who had ear ache and screamed the whole way once was memorable. The women with three kids who was flying with them to see her DH who was in the Olympics and struggled with three alone was a fun time (mainly for her).

I would take every single one of them on one flight to avoid smug, judgey knobbers. Can we have a no-smug-judgey-knobbers plane?

Not without you in it op, I'm sure we wouldn't be aware of each other at all. But without kids in it. Or maybe a 'quiet zone'?

I'm always amazed at how many parents can't go without a holiday for a few years. Poor kids having to put up with flights, hot weather & upheaval but hey ho, as long as mum & dad get their jollies in Torrelominos

I can see it happening on busy routes. And why not? It's no different to somebody who owns a restaurant deciding to go for an adult ambience in the hope of gaining more business than is lost.

And of course on flights you need official ID so there is no arguing over how old a youngster is!

I love that you say it isn't difficult... Does a baby listen to you when you tell it not to scream? Does a toddler with SEN stop tantruming because you shout?

As I said I'd happily pay for a child free area on a plane. If you choose to fly with children that's fine. I think there should be an option for adult only cabins.

I think airlines would already be doing it if there was a demand. I'd pay extra for a flight that guaranteed no drunk idiots or no loud flash overbearing twats pontificating at the top of their voices discussing their latest success, but drunk people and flash people spend lots of money so it's never going to happen.

Unless you find a magic way to detect and ban rude people, it's never going to work.

I could have punched this mum on my last flight: 3 kids, I am guessing 2, 5 and 12 all sat together whilst she sat on her own on the other side and did not raise her eyes from her book for hours, despite the fighting, screaming and mayhem of her darlings.

If the kids had been banned, I would still have had to deal with :
the one deciding to take flash photos in the middle of the night when the plane is dark (why!)
the party on a jolly together, joking and laughing together despite not being sitting anywhere near each other.
the ones reclining their seat whilst I was just trying to have some food.
the hysterical maniac laughing so loud she kept waking up half the plane.

I can't stand unruly kids on planes, but to be fair, the biggest nuisance is mainly adults, completely ignorant and not having the most basic manners towards anyone around them.

Because restaurants don't typically have guaranteed full house at £300 a seat. If airlines are going to offer adult-only flights (what's the cutoff? Age 14, 16, 18?), they have to be able to recoup the loss of custom from barring a sizeable chunk of their business audience.

I wondered how long it would take for the SEN to be mentioned. You're missing my point! If a cabin was adult only that wouldn't be an issue. I mean a completely separate cabin for adults only. NO CHILDREN ALLOWED. A quiet cabin, to relax. For goodness sake it's not had to imagine.
