Using benefits to go private

Ok, I know this Mum who is receiving 'in work tax credits' and other benefits. She is now using the 'extra' money to send her kid to private school (like 12k a year one). Her lifestyle is not luxurious but she's def not going without (drives a 'desirable' car blah blah).....AIBU to think that if you can use the 'extra cash' for something like this you are not in need of propping up by the state and that this is wasting other tax payers money that could pay for things like the NHS....

There are plenty of children at the independent school my children go to from families in low incomes. They pay a token amount as a bursary covers it.

A school in Liverpool is free re education all you pay for is the compulsory wrap around childcare. You can use tax credits or childcare vouchers towards the cost.

OP's friend pays the childcare element of tax credits for her wrap around care. Completely legitimate- that's what its there for.
OP's friend tells her she "pays school fees with tax credits"

That school in Liverpool is a bit cheeky but any out of school club or wrap around care (state or private) counts as childcare and can be claimed for via tax credits.

Our tax credits pay the school fees, however what you need to know is the 31K + fees are paid for by a gov scheme and we pay a small amount towards them as they are assessed on income like tax credits.
So it doesn't matter how much tax credits we get, it's the fees that are waived.
