to think Nicola Sturgeon should be tried for treason?

anAlienInUK · 25/06/2016 20:58

For continuing attempts to break up the UK?

Admittedly I don't know the law regarding treason exactly, but suspect she hasn't actually done anything illegal? But why is it ok to try to continuously break the country apart?

(Have namechanged as am expecting to get slaughtered)

AFAIK. Treason is lying under oath and setting fire to the Royal Dock or Royal Mail, I think eg post boxes ect. As they're the Queens Property

MrHannahSnell · 26/06/2016 02:17

She'd have to be tried in London before an English jury, of course.

MrHannahSnell · 26/06/2016 02:20

Anyway trying to break up the UK is kid's stuff. If she was setting fire to a Royal Dockyard now.........

beetroot2 · 26/06/2016 02:20

Would doing something to the Queens swans be classed as treason? Grin

MrHannahSnell · 26/06/2016 02:28

Possibly beetroot. What exactly had you in mind?Blush

NovemberInDailyFailLand · 26/06/2016 02:38

Treason? That shrew should have been pilloried long ago for daring to leave the kitchen and thinking people want to listen to the preposturous opinions of a mere woman!

beetroot2 · 26/06/2016 02:40

I could get myself in trouble here with animal rights so Im going mild and saying capture for a while and pluck Grin

bloodymaria · 26/06/2016 07:03

Scotland get 5x the money from being part of the UK that they do from the EU. The would be crazy to leave. They would mean nothing in Europe compared to how much we value them in the UK.

Sorry, this was from ages ago but

A) you've pulled that figure out of your bum

B) not feeling hugely valued as a Scot, seeing that my whole country voted to remain but we are being taken out anyway at the whim of those down south.

mathanxiety · 26/06/2016 07:21

Taken away after voting to stay in the UK in 2014 because of assurances about EU membership from a PM who is now toast.

anAlienInUK · 26/06/2016 07:46

The problem is that lots of people will vote yes, without knowing exactly what it means (remember Brexit?) just believing a politician that supposedly has the best intentions for their country. And what then, life miraculously becames better because we're out of UK, just like it gets immensely better getting out of the EU right...
Oh, I forgot we'll pop right back into EU, except it's probably not quite that simple.

And yes I live in Scotland and I'm British, would quite like to stay that way too

Edmund you are brilliant Grin

GruffaloPants · 26/06/2016 09:21

What on earth has fuckability got to do with how we view Nicola Sturgeon or Angela Merkel oblomov?Whatever your views on them on any other politician, bringing that into it is so pathetic, it is unbelievable. Is that how you would want to be (assuming you are a woman) judged at work? or your daughter? Fucking hell.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 26/06/2016 09:24

This thread is like a cess pit. Foul comments about a woman doing her job. Disagree with her politics of course, but all the personal comments are disgusting.

PatronIcingBardStarred · 26/06/2016 09:27

Don't feed the mygonist, just report...

emeraldlakes · 26/06/2016 09:41

In answer to the OP, I think she's speaking on behalf of many people in Scotland even if it does end up breaking up the UK. The only problem is that there's a chance Scotland may not be allowed to join the EU as a single entity. She needs to make it known that if the EU decides Scotland needs to reapply as a single country rather than allowing them to stay while the rest of the UK leaves, there's a chance other countries may veto their application. Spain would be likely to veto. If there's another referendum and Scotland vote to leave before deals with the EU, they would be alone from both the UK and the EU if things go badly.

Also if they join as a new member there will be no more special deals in place. They would be starting anew. Changing currency for starters.

The problem is the same as with the referendum, things are too unclear to have any certainty of what would happen.

LagunaBubbles · 26/06/2016 09:55

It always happens doesn't it, happened on the original independence ref threads to, degenerates into unnecessary personal comments. Well do you know something - she's the democratically elected leader of Scotland and I doubt she's planning on "fucking off" anywhere.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 26/06/2016 10:07

It's depressing.

I think that some of the anger is the concern that the SNP is not being challenged by any other political party. That is a concern. I would like to see a strong Scottish Labour party but that doesn't look like it's happening anytime soon.

Doesn't excuse some of the poison dripped on this thread though.

AnnJones15 · 26/06/2016 10:10

I think Nicola is awful, I cringe every time I see her face on the TV. Pretty clear she's on a power trip, she's clueless and small minded and chippy just like most of her maladjusted grievance filled supporters. Hope they get what they deserve .

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 26/06/2016 10:12

Get what they deserve? What do you mean?

Blimey.

You sound a bit het up.

Letmehaveausername · 26/06/2016 10:21

AnnJones you do realise that it's comments like that which makes Scottish not want to be a part of the U.K.? You'll be off on your own without Scotland and N.Ireland, and you'll sink faster than stone in water. Good luck to you Smile

Oblomov16 · 26/06/2016 10:25

She's an opportunist. She'll use anything that suits to achieve what she wants. There was a referendum. The Scottish already voted to remain. But their vote didn't suit her, it wasn't what she wanted. She's just using the Euro referendum to further her own goals.

GoblinLittleOwl · 26/06/2016 10:31

Yes actually, to the original poster; an interesting but probably remote possibility. Have just listened to her leading forth on the Andrew Marr show, and her lack of concern for anyone in the British Isles other than the Scots (and her own position) was noticeable.
