To think that it's time Classism became as much of a No-no as Racism, Sexism or Homophobia?

Starting with MN talk guidelines?

Just making the point that for genuine acceptance to exist between groups of people whose circumstances are different for whatever reason (race, religion, age, class, sex, whatever) it has to be shown on both sides.

Scaredycat3000 · 26/06/2016 13:56

Being seen as a 'toff' doesn't really cause them any disadvantage does it?
My Mum insisted we talked posh properly. Dad was a laborer and Mum SAHM. My school sat on the border of the private and council estate, the only real difference was the color of the bricks. I wasn't posh or a snob so I didn't fit in with the few posh kids and was seen as posh by everybody else, so they didn't want to know me. If we had been loaded I'm sure the positives would have outweighed the negatives by a long way, but we weren't, we were in the same boat as everybody round us, poor, so I got shit for sounding posh and being poor.

I really wish that posts weren't deleted. What head girl ran to teacher and reported Retro's post rather than answering it or ignoring it and allowing the rest of us to read it and judge?

limitedperiodonly · 26/06/2016 14:22

You don't have to be posh to be a snob scaredycat

TinklyLittleLaugh · 26/06/2016 14:39

On a recent thread about swearing in front of your children, I was roundly derided for being "lower middle class". Hmm

It's just all a bit laughable and silly. People need to get over themselves and stop other information each other.

Scaredycat3000 · 26/06/2016 14:40

I know that limited. I can tell reality from lies and judgemeants, seems to be a rare skill these days.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 26/06/2016 14:40

Othering. Autocorrect hates that word.

Scaredycat3000 · 26/06/2016 14:43

Lower middle class, FFS Hmm

A11TheSmallTh1ngs · 26/06/2016 14:47

My, my, the leave voters are so sensitive!

That was very precise

Indeed Limited and, even more gallingly, not even accurate.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 26/06/2016 14:52

I'm working class and poor. I don't need protecting. I do a bang up job on my own.

I do challenge the word 'chav' wherever I see it on here and have been given some awful shit over it. It's a disgusting word and the connotations are that the subject is the lowest of the low. It has crept in more and more on this site and, sadly, seems to be acceptable now by many posters. And they're not all newbies either.

I agree that people being cunts on threads shouldn't be deleted. They should be left and challenged. And yes, it's good to see people's true colours. If someone is deleted it's difficult to later say 'actually, you said something really awful recently' because it's gone. And I have no compunction about bringing up people's past behaviour if they have ongoing form for cuntishness. I don't care if that's considered bad form. If someone is a nasty piece of work across the board then they deserve to be outed and shamed.

I think sorting out the disablism and racism should be priority tbh. There have been some repellant posts recently and they're not deleted quickly enough.

Wouldn't it just save time if 'chav' was 'beyond the pale'?

Lower Middle Class Shock

For shame!

LilacSpunkMonkey · 26/06/2016 14:57

'Chav' should be beyond the pale. I thought it was for awhile. But it's becoming more and more accepted on here. HQ don't think it's an issue certainly.

MangoMoon · 26/06/2016 14:58

I can't stand reverse snobbery either, but sneery superior posts piss me off most of all.

Just5minswithDacre · 26/06/2016 14:58

'Chav' should be beyond the pale. I thought it was for awhile.

Yes I definitely remember that brief era.

I think it will get far worse Sad I think Labour support in London will plummet as many of the 'champagne socialists' will punish the wc brexiteers and vote tory. Boris won't be looking after the northeast will he?

If sexism was as much of a No-Go as racism, that'd be a very nice start ...

Poor-bashing is certainly bad, but I think that doing things that keep people poor in the first place, is worse.

Classism adds insult to injury, but I think the injury is the worst problem here.

I don't think one can be separated from the other.

Can't say I noticed any poor-people bashing here. Not liking people because they do things that are typically associated with poor people, but have nothing to do with money, is different from bashing poor people as a group.

Educated working class exists.
Disliking uneducated people who think they know everything is human.

OrangesandLemonsNow · 26/06/2016 15:45

I agree.

Some of the posts that are being aloud to stand are awful

VestalVirgin · 26/06/2016 15:49

MrsDArsey you are talking utter nonsense. Race, gender and class are hierarchies. The oppressed have every right to hate their oppressors.

Your point only really applies to religion. and that also only in countries where all religions are equal before the law.
