Can someone please tell me exactly what's going to happen in the next year, 10 years, 20 years?

I mean please someone tell me EXACTLY how shit things are going to be.

I must be missing something because everyone seems to know exactly what position we're all going to be in in 1, 5, 10, 20 year plus, and I don't.

How can we be certain on what will happen when we haven't even left yet?

OP posts:
HopeClearwater · 25/06/2016 17:10

In fact I wish I'd never voted

I wish you hadn't, too.

GrayJane · 25/06/2016 17:40

So following on from BREXIT the situation now seems to be that:

A Prime Minister resigned. The £ plummeted. The FTSE 100 lost significant ground.

But then the £ rallied past February levels, and the FTSE closed on a weekly high: 2.4% up on last Friday, its best performance in 4 months.

President Obama decided we wouldn't be at the 'back of the queue' after all and that our 'special relationship' was still strong.

The French President confirmed the Le Touquet agreement would stay in place.

The President of the European Commission stated Brexit negations would be 'orderly' and stressed the UK would continue to be a 'close partner' of the EU.

A big bank denied reports it would shift 2,000 staff overseas.

The CBI, vehemently anti-Brexit during the referendum campaign, stated British business was resilient and would adapt.

Several countries outside the EU stated they wished to begin bi-lateral trade talks with the UK immediately.

A post by a ukipper, I think you'll find

Jasonandyawegunorts · 25/06/2016 17:47

Not back of the queue but we will still have a wait.

Tanith · 25/06/2016 17:50

Yes, but Op - you asked for facts and what was going to happen now.

You tell me! You voted for it!

tabulahrasa · 25/06/2016 17:58

"But then the £ rallied past February levels"

Because the Bank of England spent hundreds of millions of pounds stabilising it.

"The French President confirmed the Le Touquet agreement would stay in place"

While telling us to leave immediately.

"The President of the European Commission stated Brexit negations would be 'orderly' and stressed the UK would continue to be a 'close partner' of the EU."

He also said it wasn't an amicable divorce, we should leave immediately and it wasn't a deep love affair to start with.

Also our credit rating has been downgraded to negative...oh and Angela Merkel stressed that we have voted out of the EU and its single market.

But yeah, it's all good...

WeekendAway · 25/06/2016 18:01

Costa UKipper or not, do you doubt any of what GrayJane just said? Is there anything there that you would like to challenge or take particular issue with?

mummytime · 25/06/2016 18:07

A big bank denied reports it would shift 2,000 staff overseas
Untrue- the bank said it was already moving those jobs and they were not a result of Brexit. However a lot of financial institutions have been ceasing to invest in the UK because of the uncertainty caused by the possibility of Brexit. A lot of companies will be carefully considering how much they remain in the UK and even Europe.
I know of at least one which will be moving certain key operations out of Europe, and the uncertainty was a factor in their decision.

BonerSibary · 25/06/2016 18:19

Why all these sudden fucks about what Obama thinks? He stops being the US President in January 2017. We're not leaving the EU until June 2018 at the very earliest. Are we all going to go with him to stand at the front of the queue on his speaking engagements and investment bank consulting gigs?

Costacoffeeplease · 25/06/2016 18:25

Costa UKipper or not, do you doubt any of what GrayJane just said? Is there anything there that you would like to challenge or take particular issue with?

Already done upthread

Did you see where EU leaders told the UK to get on with leaving asap? IE, Fuck off little englanders, don't let the door hit your arse on the way out?

PhilPhilConnors · 25/06/2016 18:47

I saw someone today who works in banking. He has aged 10 years in one day.
He can't believe people have voted out when they clearly don't understand the implications.
To be fair, I don't understand the implications of leaving, which was one of the reasons I voted remain.

This issue is far too complicated with possible far reaching and horrendous consequences to be given to the public to vote on. Utter shambles.

UnderslungBowlingBall · 25/06/2016 19:01

In short, we don't know. No one has left before and there's so many factors to take into account, we can predict what might happen but we're just guessing really. I'm worried, of course I am, but ultimately the vote has come in and we must play with the cards we've been dealt. Who knows, we may not even leave, the referendum is not binding.

AnotherPrickInTheWall · 25/06/2016 20:13

I think a lot of people are working on the three day rule, but it is dressed up as something like; family friendly hours.
Bollocks! I work three days a week because that is all I can get. I would rather work full time and earn a decent wage.
I voted out of the EU, mostly because I think that there is a huge surplus of unskilled worker in the UK and I'm genuinely concerned by the fact I receive benefits in the form of WTC that equal my take home pay.
Someone has to pick up the tab, who is picking up the tab when I don't pay tax?
Pre kids I paid over £100 a week in paye. Something has to give.
The EU isn't a bottomless pit or cash cow.
The only money generated is from the interest the banks are paid when they loan this money.
It isn't rocket science and neither is it just a European problem.

Comfortzone · 25/06/2016 20:25

Agree Philphil - this issue should never have been given to the public to decide on

Lovelyjubbly87 · 25/06/2016 20:52

How did we ever survive before the EU?!

We can still be a power house without other countries. I dont understand where people's confidence in their own country and people has disappeared to?

We need to believe in ourselves and start rising up together not against eachother. The majority have spoken, lets now work towards a shared goal!

I believe that our financial situation will get worse but then I feel it will get better as we re-establish ourselves as an independent country. Yes it is going to be hard work but when have we been afraid of that before?!

If we remained what makes people so certain that things would be rosy? A total reform was requested and denied.

Look at the countries who have refused EU memberships, are they doing too badly?

People talk of small businesses. Look into how many companies we have lost or closed since joining the EU.

It's not as if we are closing the borders completely, it will just be tighter and don't should be. It's not like we are the biggest country.

Homelessness in this country has been getting worse for a long time. If we stopped taking as many immigrants and migrants we would have more space to help our own people on the streets. Then maybe we can help outside more.

Calling for another referendum to me is undermining the people who voted and won. Will it just carry on forever? Winning, losing, winning, losing... Let's look to the future and accept what is done!

BonerSibary · 25/06/2016 20:57

Why do you think the borders are going to be tighter?

Lovelyjubbly87 · 25/06/2016 21:01

Not so much tighter but I believe they will be more controlled, I feel that we are moving towards not having people move so frequently between countries

CoteDAzur · 25/06/2016 21:01

GrayJane - That Facebook meme was posted on this very thread about 7 hours ago. And answered already.

RedToothBrush · 25/06/2016 21:03

What do you think the chances of Sangatte being about to be driven in buses to Folkestone is?

tabulahrasa · 25/06/2016 21:03

"Not so much tighter but I believe they will be more controlled"

Not likely if we want to trade with the EU...or are you another person who didn't know that?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/06/2016 21:04

Also agree with Phil Phil. Very angry about that.

Lovelyjubbly87 · 25/06/2016 21:06

Grin How rude

It's 'not likely' so it's not definite then, so I am right to feel and believe what I would like to seeing as it is not a fact?

BillSykesDog · 25/06/2016 21:06

The French government has said the Le Touquet agreement will still stand because they believe to get rid of it would make the situation even worse in Calais and act as a magnet rather than a deterrent.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2016/jun/25/french-border-deal-wont-be-affected-by-brexit-paris?client=safari#

But, hey, don't let that put you off a bit of scaremongering.

BonerSibary · 25/06/2016 21:10

Not so much tighter but I believe they will be more controlled, I feel that we are moving towards not having people move so frequently between countries

...Because?

tabulahrasa · 25/06/2016 21:11

"It's 'not likely' so it's not definite then, so I am right to feel and believe what I would like to seeing as it is not a fact?"

There are no facts because nobody knows anything.

But the existing options are join with the EEA like Norway or Iceland, or broker a deal like Switzerland...they both involve free movement.

Or no trade deal...
