Social media here.claiming out voters have ruined children's futures I see high youth unemployment in Southern Europe so I can't see the arguement myself. What has the EU done for those kids.

I'm really interested in your clear but possibly subconscious background thought when you wrote this thread title. Because the UK and all its citizens are Europeans, and (currently) live in Europe. But clearly in your mind Europe is not something that includes the UK. That's very sad obviously but I wonder if people in France or Italy would have the same disconnect between their country and their continent.

I live in Italy and my neighbour congratulated me on the great result I really hope it doesn't happen here as it would bea disaster.

My DH who is Italian reckons the UK has helped us stay in Europe by showing us what a disaster it is economically to leave.

I am Swedish, in a heartbeat I would vote remain. I am sickened, disapointed and heartbroken that the country I have lived in, loved, paid (an enormous amount of) tax in for nearly 20 years clearly do not want me here. Heartbroken, I have loved Britain for so long and now it no longer feels like home.

Lndnmummy, if I may say s that's a bit melodramatic. Those of us who voted leave didn't do so because we want everyone European out of England. However, we would, for example, like to send back to Romania the little piece of shit who has just left prison, where he was sent for the rape of three nurses. He says he will rape again, but we can't send him back home for his own country to deal with because the EU tells us he has chosen to live in the UK so he has a, "right" to stay. The nurses at potential risk from him are not allowed to see a photo of him so that they can be aware should they have the misfortune to meet him. Oh no, because he has a right to his anonymity under the European Court of Human Rights People have labelled me, "racist" for voting leave. Some have taken it one step further and surmised that, if I'm racist, I must be generally bigoted as well. Now I couldn't care less about the race, colour, creed, or sexual orientation of these nurses. I couldn't even care less if they were born in Britain or not. They are here, working in our NHS, for the good of our people Therefore, they are ours and we should have a right to protect our own and we should have the right to send that particular piece of Romanian shit back to Romania. (And that doesn't mean I hate all Romanian's either) At the very least we should have the right to expose him to the people he is putting at risk. This is only one of the reasons I voted leave but, given your remarks, the most pertinent one in this case One of the nurses at risk is the daughter of a co-worker.

I am British, DH Swedish, kids have British passports, we moved to Sweden two years ago. DH would vote leave in a Svexit

The Human Rights Act and European Court of Human Rights is completely separate from the EU. So in the case you have named it would probably have little effect in 'protecting our own'.

I'm Irish and would have to do a lot of reading first but would almost definitely vote to stay. I don't think Ireland would do as well on its own.

I know he didn't rape because he's Romanian. And I'm aware that we have to deal with our own rapists. Nevertheless we should have the right to label him, "undesirable" and send him home. Just as other countries should. As to the European Court of Human Rights and the Human Rights Act "being completely separate from the EU" we see plenty of other non EU countries clearly not being bound by them. And don't try and push me down the bigoted slope here, I'm well aware that the Human Rights of these places are appalling and I am NOT suggesting that Human Rights aren't important and don't need protecting but, in Europe, it's got to the point where the perpetrators of crimes have more right to anonymity and protection than victims and that's just ridiculous.

I'm not trying to push you down any slope. It is separate from the EU. It was introduced to protect people after the atrocities of WWII. Britain played a huge part in implementing it. I'm not really sure what your point is here. We have signed up to it and are bound by its terms, independently of being a member of the EU. Stripping people of their human rights or picking and choosing who gets them is not really an option. Why would Non EU countries be bound to them?

Interesting comments on European people's reactions to the Brexit on BBC comments. Some think we are selfish, some seem quite pleased as they feel it will force change in the EU, trigger their own referendum. Bit of a mixed bag.

Just because British people rape doesn't mean we need anymore...if we can remove them, do it. Personally I believe they shouldn't be free in any country. They should be in prison either in the UK or Romania to protect citizens of both countries.

I would have a vote in a future French referendum (since It can't happen before 2018 and I will have citizenship by then). But

• it won't happen, and
• In the unlikely event that it did, I would vote remain. Quite apart from anything else, I have two French born and bred teenagers who will quite likely want to travel for studies and work

RoI and UK dual citizen. Would vote to remain for either country, and mailed in a postal vote to remain this time. The mind boggles at the stupidity of the decision to leave.

I agree with that completely.

As for the rapist - it's a problem with prisons that allow rapists to leave when it's clear they're going to rape again. They should be on a similar licence to murderers, where they're not allowed to leave prison until it's thought they're safe.

Same here. It's obviously big news here and I haven't met one person who isn't shocked and horrified by the result.

In relation to the argument re sending criminals 'back home' you do realise it cuts both ways yes? Look at all the UK citizens with long criminal records sunning themselves on the Costa, you can have them back for a start.
