I'm feeling pretty shocked and scared right now.

Why did you vote for brexit?

Plus my family wouldnt be able to emigrate to particular countries that have a points system so i dont see why it shouldnt be applied to all people wanting to come into this country.

Ah yes.... Second generation immigrants - some of the most hostile to new immigrants. Shut the door and pull up the ladder mentality.

Greenleave · 24/06/2016 08:24

Whois: you are kidding right?

OutsiderInTheGarden · 24/06/2016 08:24

beetroot what exactly are you proud of?

flirtygirl · 24/06/2016 08:27

Lots of bme voted leave. Are they racist too? The shouts of racist shut down debate. Yes some clearly are racist but lets talk about this instead of eu corruption, lack of reforms and spiralling costs. Lets talk about immigration affecting poorer areas more and the govt not putting in extra funds into the nhs, schools and housing in these areas. Lets talk about the lowering of wages due to increased supply of workers. Or the treatment of greece and southern europes 50% youth unemployment.

Thats before we get to a eu army, no negotiation with cameronn on a better deal, and red tape and regulations causing everyday misery for millions.

Lets not discuss any of this lets just say all leave voters are racist.

This is the reason the leave vote won, the govt had weeks to outline the benefits and to announce policies to ensure the people losing out could gain something, they had years to put money into areas of low wages, unskilled employment, lack of housing, full gps and full schools, they chose not to do so, year after year and parliament after parliament.

People would not have voted leave if their everyday situation would have been better or if they could have seen it getting better.

So it may not boil down to racism but it does boil down to problems not addressed with too much immigration in some areas along with the general feeling that the eu is too big, too corrupt and too undemocratic.

RebootYourEngine · 24/06/2016 08:27

I dont talk much about my political views because there is always someone there who will shoot me down and call me stupid whether i voted to remain or leave.

Of course the pound was going to plummet, it had started before the vote opened. Some people dont like change and this was shown in the value of the pound.

Artesia · 24/06/2016 08:27

Thread might have moved on, but as a Cambridge grad, city professional I voted leave because I was concerned that there was no way to maintain the status quo within Europe. I don't agree with federalisation, joint fiscal policy etc, and think that's the way it's heading. We either had to commit fully to the idea of monetary and fiscal Union or get out, not stand on the sidelines with half a foot in. I think ultimately the EU will implode, and don't want to be tied into it at that stage. I'd rather protect our financial status, armed forces, position on the NATO security council etc than try to claw it back when the EU ultimately breaks up.

So nothing to do with dirty immigrants stealing our jobs.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/06/2016 08:28

Good to see some well balanced views on here, good to read of tar brushing and sweeping statements from the liberal lefts. Yes I voted out, no I am not a nasty racist, homophobic, islamophobe. My family are Armenian immigrants, who moved to this country in 1965. I always wanted to leave, a number of things, I do not like that we do not have overall control over our policies or laws of this country, we have to comply to some silly EU guidelines. Yes we have to pay something like 30 million a day to Europe, when it can be used to help the services of this country. The NHS public services are going down, they are being sold off to private companies, even before this referendum and David Cameron, it will only continue.

Those are some of the things that influenced my decision to leave.

beetroot2 · 24/06/2016 08:29

Im proud of my culture, I'm proud of being english, Im proud that I accept, Im proud of so many English things.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/06/2016 08:29

We can still broker our own deal with Europe, same as some of the other European countries, such as Sweden who are not members of the EU, we can have our own model. We can trade with the rest of the world, not only within Europe.

beetroot2 · 24/06/2016 08:30

Im so happy

Helmetbymidnight · 24/06/2016 08:31

Beetroot- 'it probably won't happen because of negotiations'?

That is the level of understanding we are dealing with.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/06/2016 08:31

On Facebook today, the reaction of the remainers was disgusting and said it all really. Whilst those who voted out, have maintained a certain level of dignity.

girlinacoma · 24/06/2016 08:32

I voted out.

So many reasons - the main one being that the future of the EU scares me. Politically and economically. We would have been hurtling towards an irreversible chain of events if we'd stayed.

Of course immigration is a concern. The UK needs immigrants, we need the expertise, the skills, the world view and the multiculturalism that immigration brings and the likes of Nigel Farage can just do one.

We also need to do far more than we currently are in terms of helping refugees.

However, I believe it is the UK who should be in a position to determine how our borders are controlled, not the EU.

For all the racist/fascist/xenophophic idiots who voted out for reasons of immigration only, then I hope that you will be bitterly, bitterly disappointed.

almondpudding · 24/06/2016 08:32

Okay, so Mojo, you're considering people who don't have A levels to be uneducated?

That's most of the country.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/06/2016 08:32

Yes we will have immigration, but we will control it, and not Europe.

KidLorneRoll · 24/06/2016 08:32

"Yes we have to pay something like 30 million a day to Europe, when it can be used to help the services of this country. "

Nope, we don't. That was just an out and out lie.

"The NHS public services are going down, they are being sold off to private companies, even before this referendum and David Cameron, it will only continue."

The NHS is doomed outside of the EU.

beetroot2 · 24/06/2016 08:32

so what! say what you want... I'm made up..

Helmetbymidnight · 24/06/2016 08:33

I know you are!

Aeroflotgirl · 24/06/2016 08:34

kid its doomed anyway, not it is not a lie, its fact actually.

BubsAndMoo · 24/06/2016 08:34

So older people and people with lower education levels are more likely to have voted to leave.... does their age and lack of university degree mean that they shouldn't get an equal vote? If intelligent people running the remain campaign were not able to make good enough arguments to persuade the majority of the British voting public then maybe they are not as clever - or as in touch with the concerns of the electorate - as they thought they were.

I am a highly educated professional, early 30s, London based, and I voted leave. I voted leave because the remain campaign failed to convince me; I believe the EU is fundamentally undemocratic and unsustainable, and not what we signed up for. One size does not fit all. I resent the EU over-riding us on so many financial and legislative issues. I think our long term future lies outside of the EU, thinking globally. I am under no illusion that Brexit will quickly solve immigration concerns
and austerity. I don't want to expel all immigrants. But I do feel that anyone wanting to move to the UK should do so on a level playing field with all nationalities and not have a free pass for being an EU citizen.

I feel we are the first escapees from a sinking ship; we'll be the furthest away and most protected when it finally goes down.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/06/2016 08:34

Under Europe, the future of the NHS is even more uncertain, it is fantastic that David Cameron will resign as a result as well.

Pythonesque · 24/06/2016 08:35

Well I felt it was our one chance to get off the train that seemed to be travelling towards "United European Nation" as that is not the destination I wanted to reach. A remain result would have potentially had "Europe" insisting we had to work towards their fancied "ever closer union". Not necessarily this year, but sooner rather than later.

Yes there are a lot of difficult negotiations coming up, and a lot of uncertainty, but I'm still glad. I just hope we can get our politicians to work constructively to create something really positive out of this. I want to protect the things that have made Britain the place so many people would like to live in!

Asprilla11 · 24/06/2016 08:35

Being educated to a higher standard does not necessarily mean being more intelligent, especially in everyday life.

Shariamom · 24/06/2016 08:36

We can arrange our own trade deals with the EU. Only we won't allow freedom of movement to be allowed to be shoved down our throats

Shariamom · 24/06/2016 08:36

Today is a great day.
