Yes I have voted, but I am sick and tired of the unrest, I'm aware there has been a lot of discontent for a long time but its now feeling toxic and I want it to be over one way or the other.

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 23/06/2016 14:30

A lot of people (not just turned 18) are voting for the first time today, so yes

Hereforthebeer · 23/06/2016 14:30

I saw going to say that too jasmine ;)

I'm really nervous. I think remain is the right thing, and thing we will regret a leave vote in short and long term.

I'm happy that theres no apathy about this campaign BUT sad at the aggression around it.
I think as we aren't that used to discussing politics here, some people have forgotten how to discuss it, whilst respecting that other people may have a different opinion (or thats how i've seen facebook).

On balance i think engagement and caring about politics and our future is better than apathy.

Snarkmaiden · 23/06/2016 14:32

I have two disabled children. I'm seriously worried what the future holds for them if we leave Europe (which I think we will). I've been avoiding FB and anything political in the papers in a vain attempt to keep my anxiety levels down. It's affecting me on a subconscious level though. I've gone all prepper and my food cupboards are totally overstocked.

bacimamma · 23/06/2016 14:32

I'd like to add that I grew up in fairly privileged circumstances in my home country and it is a very strange feeling becoming the hated 'other' in the UK, my host country that felt open and tolerant when I moved here in the early 90s.

kateandme · 23/06/2016 14:32

I'm with you.got such dread in my stomach. and its going to get bigger if anything after results.i wont be able to turn on anything without it still being there!!I no its huge stuff but I feel so weighed down by it.like actually depressed over it,how its taken over and how some have acted/notacted

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 23/06/2016 14:32

am in the same position. I also worry that a remain vote will make the haters hate more.

Yup, every social problem reported on for the next 10 years will have "well if the libtards hadn't voted remain" comments all over them I think

missmoon · 23/06/2016 14:33

The 81% figure is the likelihood of Remain winning based on betting odds (not the winning margin). It's now gone up to around 86%, from 60% last week.

Muminho · 23/06/2016 14:33

Yep, nervous & anxious re result and the possibility of unrest afterwards. Although in some ways I'm glad the debate has taken place - surprised myself at how strongly I now want to remain in the EU having been fairly unconvinced at the start. But with a close result, either way a lot of people are going to be upset and feel cheated and who knows how that will play out.

LunaLoveg00d · 23/06/2016 14:35

It's been truly hateful. I want it over and done with including the post referendum analysis.

Don't hold your breath, Dolores - it's been almost 2 years since the Scottish referendum and there are STILL people with "yes" posters in the window and "yes" stickers in their car.

If it's a close thing - like less than 10% between in and out - it won't go away. This sort of vote is VERY divisive.

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 23/06/2016 14:35

On balance i think engagement and caring about politics and our future is better than apathy.

I don't think that's happening at all, "caring about politics" = hashing out the grey areas, asking probing questions, DISCUSSION AND DEBATE
This has not been about debate, it has been about division and hate

kateandme · 23/06/2016 14:35

I want some smiles and happiness.smiles.kindness.laughter.as pathetic as that sounds

Mummyme1987 · 23/06/2016 14:36

It hasn't be a political debate it's been a nasty playground skuffle.

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 23/06/2016 14:36

The winning side will become a slur for years.

In: "it's people like you that voted for this shit"
Out: "you're the type who voted for this shit"

Oysterbabe · 23/06/2016 14:37

Bookies now have remain as massive odds on favourites. They no doubt have access to the private exit polls commissioned by banks and hedge funds.

TheSultanofPingu · 23/06/2016 14:38

Fair point Adulting, although I'm surprised that their first thought would be sabotage.
Those going on about it on my Facebook are the same age as me (quite a bit older than 18)

Katedotness1963 · 23/06/2016 14:38

I'm 99% sure it will be remain, I mean there's always a slight chance it'll go the other way.

WaspsandBeesSting · 23/06/2016 14:38

I do think we need to get away though from the labelling people for voting one way or the other or blaming them for x y or z.

Sweeping statements and lazy stereotyping helps no one. People vote one way or the other for in the main genuine reasons.

You may or may not agree with the choice but you have to respect it is theirs to make.

Good and bad (for want of a better word) voting leave

Good and bad people voting remain.

A vast number haven't found the decision easy.

After this we have to all live together.

OrangesandLemonsNow · 23/06/2016 14:40

They no doubt have access to the private exit polls commissioned by banks and hedge funds.

There is a lot of writing about this.

Higher volume of money on remain and more bets being on leave.

AllegraWho · 23/06/2016 14:40

It's the weather. It's gotta be the weather. The timing of the referendum is just a coincidence.

Right ?

shovetheholly · 23/06/2016 14:43

I feel off-the-scale anxious. I'm waiting to hear if my Mum's cancer has come back as well, so that is a huge factor on top. But it feels like both my private and public spheres are in trauma and turmoil.

I will probably have a good old cry before the day is out.

The80sweregreat · 23/06/2016 14:43

Adult, this is the problem - it will be a slur.

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 23/06/2016 14:44

Fair point Adulting, although I'm surprised that their first thought would be sabotage

Who UKIP, that's what they already do? Take the fisheries thing, don't vote on behalf of British fishermen and then take to the thames saying: Look what the EU did to British fishermen

It's not a matter of them starting to do that after a remain vote, just a matter of them continuing to do so to prove the EU is shit, so that they get to keep their MEP jobs, so they can keep making it shit, so they can keep saying "told you so", so they can get in in the general elections for more of the same

Wynona · 23/06/2016 14:44

I think we need to remember that people are voting because they believe they are doing the right thing. It is just disappointing at the level inaccurate information on both sides.

For the first time ever, this is an election that I really care about as we cannot change out minds in 5 years time. Having looked at all the evidence calmly I'm happy with my decision. I do hope that those that vote out can say the same. I sincerely hope that we remain.

CruCru · 23/06/2016 14:44

Okay, go and do something to take your mind off it, if you have already voted.

I'm off to buy a birthday card and wrap a present.

TransvisionTramp · 23/06/2016 14:44

Part of me feels like this whole thing is a pissing competition between Boris Johnson and David Cameron. A throwback to their Eton school days.
Which makes me hate it all the more.
