I've just been reading Closer (hmm) and amazed by the celebrities who are 5'6'', 9 1/2 stone, and size 8.
I don't understand. I'm this height and weight and a 12, have always been a 12, and an 8 wouldn't go anywhere near me, top or bottom.
Is it possible to be the same height and weight but such different sizes?
I'm very happy as a 12, just baffled.

Northernpowerhouse · 21/06/2016 14:14

5'7" currently 12 & half stone and size 16

At 11 and half stone i'm a size 14

I haven't been down to 10 and half stone for a long time but i would be a 12.

However that is my lower limit without losing stupid amounts more weight due to large hips.

Not unhappy at 16 but would prefer to be a 14 if possible because I generally feel more energetic and like how clothes look. Funnily enough not really bothered about getting any less than that these days.

Bluebolt · 21/06/2016 14:15

Not so much the celebs but I do feel there are women in denial of their size due to Lycra and jersey material. Put on two stones due to bloody leggings and tunics once without it really registering.

eatsleephockeyrepeat · 21/06/2016 14:25

I have almost the exact statistics mentioned in the OP, except an extra half inch in height. No-one believes I weigh. 9.5 stone unless I hop on the scales for them. I am definitely a size 8.

I've always been "dense" though; perhaps it's all the sporting activities, or perhaps it's just my body type. I know many "typical" 8s who are small in build or in some way "petite", but I am definitely not. I am lean though and I have no boobs, hence my dress size I suppose.

I always find it surprising what a wide variety or shapes and forms are fitted by a particular size.

LadyAntonella · 21/06/2016 14:25

YY bluebolt! I did the same when I was living abroad. I was there for just a year so had the bare minimum of clothing with me and no bathroom scales. Ended up putting on a stone and a half / 2 stone in that year and talked myself into thinking I hadn't gained weight at all; when I was so uncomfortable in my jeans that I didn't really wear them anymore I kept saying my "style" had changed and "nobody really wears jeans here"! I was actually just getting rather chubby. Blush

5"6
8 stone
Dress 6/8

TheWernethWife · 21/06/2016 14:28

16/18 depending on which shop.

leedy · 21/06/2016 14:29

5'7''ish, somewhere between 10 and 11 stone, size 12 in most shops though I do sometimes need a 14 in jackets/fitted tops due to big shoulders/boobage. I tend to "weigh heavy" (build muscle, aforementioned big shoulders, pretty solid frame). I have not been a size 8 since I was a skinny teenager with no boobs.

I'm 5,7 current 12 stone 4 ish and 14-16 in most high street clothes. At 11 stone I'm a 12.
Measurements ( cos I love sewing !) high bust 37 in, full bust 41in, waist 32 in hips 42 in when dress making its usually a 16-18.

Twinkie1 · 21/06/2016 14:30

5'7" size 12 and 11 stone 10 pounds.

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 21/06/2016 14:30

I'm 5'5", about 9 1/2 stone, size 8-10 (depending on the shop and more 10 in trousers, 8 in tops/dresses/skirts). I have a narrow frame - narrow shoulders and hips. I have quite big boobs as well - they must weigh a bit!

Bizarrely though, pre dcs I weighed about 9st3 but was significantly smaller. Have never quite worked that out! I guess everything was just younger and more toned? I definitely had a much smaller waist Sad

From the op I think I'd be close to an 8 at 9 1/2 stone but I haven't bee. That thin since I was 12!

houseeveryweekend · 21/06/2016 14:37

I am 5ft 6. When i weighed 9 and a half stone i was a size 8. I have an incredibly flat chest though and very narrow shoulders and ribcage. Am a 32 A bra.

RebelandaStunner · 21/06/2016 14:41

9 stone 5'5 size 8-10 in equal amounts of clothing

RebelandaStunner · 21/06/2016 14:45

Bra size 30G. Skinny arms, slim but muscley legs, small area waist and hips. My friend says I'm a lollipop -boobs and nothing else

RebelandaStunner · 21/06/2016 14:46

Arse not area

onehellofaride · 21/06/2016 14:47

5'6" around 8 st 4 currently and a size 6/8. I am quite slight narrow shoulders and quite a flat chest.

singleandfabulous · 21/06/2016 14:49

Clothing sizes are meaningless in my opinion. There is no standard now so anyone can be a 10, 12, 14, whatever. It's better to use measurements of vital statistics.

I'm 5'61/2" and weigh 10st4lb. I've got sizes 10 12 and 14 in my wardrobe and I measure 37-28-37. I have a large frame and broad shoulders but can get size 8 jeans on can't do them up though

CancellyMcChequeface · 21/06/2016 14:52

I'm 5'2" and currently a size 12 at just over 9 stone. Lowest adult weight was 8 stone, and I was a size 8 on top and 10 on bottom; at my heaviest I was 11st6 and a size 16.

Standard sizes don't fit me well, though, so I usually have to take a best guess - I'm currently 35-27-40, and if I lose or gain weight it tends to be proportionate. No hope of just shrinking my hips! (I wear skirts most of the time to avoid any trousers that fit over my bottom gaping horribly at my waist.)

AdoraBell · 21/06/2016 14:53

For me it depends greatly on the brand of clothing. In terms of actual dresses I have some Desigual dresses in which I need large and another brand I ordered 12 and 14 as was unsure. Teen DDs said the 12 looked better but I kept the 14.

Generally I am a 12 on top and 14 on my lower half.

I'm about 5' 2.5"-ish

Shantotto · 21/06/2016 14:55

In 6ft and a bit and weight just under 18stone post (well almost 12 months after!) baby.

I seem to be a size 17, as some 16s are too small and 18s are too big. Before DS I was a size 16 in the few places I can actually shop in!

Fibbertigibbet · 21/06/2016 14:55

5'5''. 11st 8. Size 10 on the top, size 14-16 on the bottom.

VioletBam · 21/06/2016 14:56

I''m 5.6 and when I'm as low as 9 stone then I am a 6-8. I have very narrow hipbones and a flat chest. Also got narrow shoulders.

VioletsAreViolet · 21/06/2016 15:09

I'm 5ft 5 and I've been every weight from 7st 12 to 13st 10 and every dress size from a 10 to a 16 - yep, even when my BMI put me dangerously close to being underweight I was still a 10 due to my wide hips!

For me ...
7st 12 - 9st 3 = size 10
9st 4 - 10st 11 = size 12
10st 12 - 12st 5 = size 14
12st 6 - 13st 10 = size 16

Although when I was a 16 I used to buy a lot of 14s with elasticated waists because most of my weight fell there and I still had quite slim legs in comparison!
