I've just been reading Closer (hmm) and amazed by the celebrities who are 5'6'', 9 1/2 stone, and size 8.
I don't understand. I'm this height and weight and a 12, have always been a 12, and an 8 wouldn't go anywhere near me, top or bottom.
Is it possible to be the same height and weight but such different sizes?
I'm very happy as a 12, just baffled.

5 foot 9, 15 stone and wear a size 16.

sleepwhenidie · 21/06/2016 13:55

Completely down to muscle/fat ratio, absolutely possible.

longer explanation

Ginkypig · 21/06/2016 13:59

Il recount my dress size history for you.

Before I do though my friend is 5'6" a size 6/8 but she 7 1/2stone.

Height for all is 5' 7.5"

15- 17/18 before my proper boobs came in!
size 10 (could maybe have tried and 8 occasionally but didn't)

Boobs came in Blush

Gained weight
14s 4lb size 18-20 (early to mid 20's)
Lost weight
10 ish stone size 12 (mid 20's)
Gained weight.
14 8lb size 16-18=prob should have been in an 18 really (late 20's to 30)

Losing weight for the last year now so currently
12s 5lb 14 but still a lot of 16 (31-32)

In the end I'm hoping to stick at somewhere between 10.5 to 11.5 stone and would hopefully be a a size 12ish

Ginkypig · 21/06/2016 14:00

Oh and classic hourglass shape

EdmundCleverClogs · 21/06/2016 14:01

I'm 5'7 and used to weigh 11.5 stone, wore a size 14. I have recently put on 2 stone and am currently wearing bin bags (so it feels). Never been below a size 12 bottoms. As for top, if I wear anything below a size 14 (even at my slimmest), I look like I'm trying to be Katie Price back when she was still Jordan....

Thebewilderbeest · 21/06/2016 14:01

I'm 5'5 and 9st 10, and 10-12 depending on which shop. However I know that with my frame I should probably be a few pounds under 9 stone and a size 8. I'm meant to be a quite slender pear shape but at the moment I'm carrying quite a lot of fat! Really does vary from person to person - SIL is about 5'2, weighs about 11st (I think) but fits a size 10 thanks to being a rugby player.

hollinhurst84 · 21/06/2016 14:01

5ft 10 and a bit
15st 6
Size 14 bottom, 16 top (boobs, a 16 is baggy on the waist but I can't get my boobs in a 14)

SapphireStrange · 21/06/2016 14:01

Oh, Christ knows. It varies from shop to shop and dress to dress. And there 's a lot of vanity sizing.

But broadly, I'm a 6 or 8, or XS, in most high-street shops like Gap, French Connection, Reiss etc.

I'm 5' 10" and weigh about 9 stone, with a high waist, teeny breasts, long legs and heavy 'pear' hips.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/06/2016 14:02

Agree that slim fit celebs probably have a higher muscle mass and lower fat percentage than the average woman. They will often have personal trainers that help them work out almost daily and optimum diets.

But sizing is bollocks and reported sizes are bollocks too. Just look how bra sizes are reported with tiny slim celebs being reported as being a 34 DD or similar, even though their back size will be 28 or 30 at most.

merrymouse · 21/06/2016 14:02

Maybe it's an 8 with an elasticated waist...

PumpkinPies38 · 21/06/2016 14:04

5'5"
8.5 stone
Size 8

chickettychick · 21/06/2016 14:04

5'3 and 8.9 stone. I'm a size 8

youlittlecharmer · 21/06/2016 14:05

5'3, 10 stone 3 and a size 10 for dresses, need a 12 in trousers to get over my ahem muscular thighs though.

kittyjewel · 21/06/2016 14:06

I'm sure they lie (to make the celeb sound slimmer than what they are) I've thought this loads of times when looking at magazines. I'm 5,6 & just over 9.5 stone. Size 10. Size 8's don't even touch me. I'm built like a green bean tho (lol). Straight & lanky.

Just5minswithDacre · 21/06/2016 14:06

I'm 5'6. 9st5 was my steady weight for years and I was an 8/10 at that weight. (Sadly no more Sad)

I am quite a 'flat but broad' shape if that makes any difference; wide shoulder and hip bones, but disappear when I turn sideways, especially at that weight Smile

bluesbaby · 21/06/2016 14:07

5 foot nothing, 10 stone, and a size 8-10 (or Small).
I'm guessing it's muscle, my tanita scales tell me I have a high muscle mass anyway. Obv I do have some fat I could lose... my visceral fat is very low though.

KateLivesInEngland · 21/06/2016 14:08

I am 5'6" around the 10st mark.
If buying a dress it's 12 if buying trousers it's a 10.
I don't have particularly big boobs, 36C but I think I carry weight on my shoulders which makes me a bit top heavy. I have back fat too, which I hate.

Just5minswithDacre · 21/06/2016 14:08

And when I dipped below 8st10 my breasts disappeared entirely and my ribs were all visible. So, basically, I can believe it.

Somewhereundertheduvet · 21/06/2016 14:09

I think they use US sizing (ie. US 8 = UK 10) and they lie as well Grin

OutwardBound2016 · 21/06/2016 14:10

5ft10 and 10st 3lbs, size 10 or small, sometimes a 12.

randomsabreuse · 21/06/2016 14:11

I'm about 12 stone 5'5ish and am 10-12 consistently at 10 months post baby. Could do losing 2 stone but I'm a 28K with chunky thighs!

Knottyknitter · 21/06/2016 14:14

Currently 13st (work in progress)

5'4"

Wearing anything from a 12 to a 16. Work dresses are phase 8 12s from about 4 years ago, jeans M&S relaxed skinnies in 16. But my life is too short not to tumble dry, so gok what size ey really are!

Just measured myself against the new sewing bee book. Apparantly I'm a 14 top and 12 waist and arse!

I was a very comfortable size 8 at 11st 3 though so still significantly overweight even then!

I have no idea what size I'd be at a healthy BMI - probably negative number or kids wear? Hopefully will find out with low carbing!

anotherdayanother · 21/06/2016 14:14

I've been a range of weights and across three sizes so maybe this is helpful:

5ft 2 (at a push) and currently 8st to 8st2 and a size 6 on top, 8 on bottom in most shops. Boden - maybe this should be our benchmark since it seems quite popular on here! - for example is this. Current measurements 32, 25.5, 35.5 or 36.

At 8st 7 I was an 8 on top and bottom.
At 9st I was still an 8 or 10 in small size shops, on top, 10 or 12 bottom
At 9st 5 I was a 10 on top 12 on bottom, other than in M&S with its vanity sizing!
