To Think expats shouldn't be able to vote in the EU referendum?

Am I right? Those expats living abroad less than 15 years have a right to vote in the EU referendum?!

They decide to get out, then want to decide fate of those who stay behind and actually live here? AIBU to think they should duck off as it doesn't have anything to do with them since they left?

My brother lives in Germany, he met a German girl at university, married her and moved over there. He calls himself an ex pat, he speaks fluent German, learning the language from scratch when he moved there. I doubt he will return to the UK permanently.
He has no voting rights in the UK, and because he hasnt taken German nationality he cannot vote in Germany, so he is disenfranchised.
His reasons for not taking German citizenship are because he still considers himself as English, and also, apparently, UK citizens have more visa rights in some countries, can stay longer etc, this comes in handy for work.
He isnt exactly happy at having no vote, but just accepts it as a compromise he has had to make. He's not worried about being sent "home" in the event of a Brexit.
He and sister in law are "remainers", because they feel the German govt does not listen to them and that Britain could force change in the EU. My sister in law said a lot of Germans think this, although I thought it was a bit of an odd point of view.

I think you also have to be in the shoes of someone who has left the UK. Most of us who have left may not have citizenship in our chosen country yet. I can only get citizenship here in 2018 when I will have dual citizenship. Just because we've chosen not to live in the UK dues not mean it is erased from our lives. For local elections or even national where things wouldn't affect me then I wouldn't bother to vote. This is different, this affects Britain globally. Those of us abroad might have a good understating of international politics, of Britain's position in relation to other counties and a different perspective on that. Brits abroad can often be crucial voters. Which ever way it goes, the more votes the better.
