Most people havent got a scooby.

LordoftheTits · 15/06/2016 13:02

RebelRogue

There was a whole discussion about that upthread Grin

RebelRogue · 15/06/2016 13:03

Lord. Oops my bad for not reading the whole thread.

My personal pet peeve is Beau for a girl!! I just assume the parents are uneducated and clueless no matter how "popular" it is

DesolateWaist · 15/06/2016 13:13

If you do chose a random spelling then don't get pissy when people spell it all wrong.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 15/06/2016 13:13

Rebel It could have been spelt 'Hoap" Smile

Kr1stina · 15/06/2016 13:14

We have a female Beau in our school too. Can't decide if it's better or worse than Bow. Who we used to have.

OhGodWhatTheHellNow · 15/06/2016 13:16

My Ddad is Allen, as his dm admittedly couldn't spell and that was how the Doctor spelled his (sur) name.

He is in his 70s and it has been a pita for oh, about 70 years...

May I toss Ryeleigh into the ring? I mean, why?

and it's a bloody boy's name on a girl, spelling it wrong doesn't make it ok

OhGodWhatTheHellNow · 15/06/2016 13:20

Oh, and we've got one at school named after a nightclub but spelled differently, so no one thinks she was named after a nightclub (honestly).

Maybe she was conceived there?

LoucheLady · 15/06/2016 13:28

And ofc the unforgettable and sadly very real La-a pronounced Ladasha

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how urban myths get spread... KVIIIlyn is clearly the next L-a. Referenced three separate times on this thread with no-one having a clue if it's genuine or not. Look out for "I met one once" posts in silly names threads in years to come Grin

Wheels1986 · 15/06/2016 13:32

molyholy it was the name of an emergency contact a kid put down when they were going on a school trip. I'll never know if it was the kid only ever hearing 'Catherine' pronounced with an 'f' instead of a 'th' and assuming this was how it was spelt, or if Cafferine's mother was an utter moron!

Another emergency contact we had was 'Taroni'.

Was pleased neither child got hurt on said school trip so I didn't have to phone the parents and try to pronounce their names!

LordoftheTits · 15/06/2016 13:33

blokes we had a Teejay in our school. Just why?!

My colleague's nephew is Teejay. My colleague is very Hmm about it but keeps quiet!

OldKingThistle · 15/06/2016 13:35

I know a Jorja too, the problem with saying that is a European spelling is that it is then not pronounced Georgia, but horha same as Jorge, is not George, but Horhay

Lakiey · 15/06/2016 13:37

As a previous OP stated there is no La-a you can claim to be a teacher or a nurse and you've met one but your lying, on every single baby name thread someone claims to know a La-a. I know your trying to be funny but find a new name to make up as La-a has been recycled for years.

we know an Alfee - why just why would you?

TooMuchCoffeeMakesMeZoom · 15/06/2016 13:44

In response to someone way up thread, Anjuli is an Indian name.

She was the heroine in this book which I loved as a teenager ;) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Far_Pavilions

Wheels1986 · 15/06/2016 13:47

I believe the 'KVIIIlyn' thing came from a magazine, something like Chat or Take a Break, and then it got shared all over Facebook. May well have been someone taking the piss originally, but it was printed...

Cafferine - I feel so sorry for that child...

This was last year but I was walking to my local Aldi and went the quickest route down some side streets. On my travels, there was a homemade happy birthday banner attached on one of the houses, it said: Happy ...... birthday Rhyce.

Now I've come across a few Reece/Rhys' in my time but never with that spelling!

Mycraneisfixed · 15/06/2016 13:49

I know a Jacxon. That's just daft.

Elphame · 15/06/2016 14:05

I loved the name Sian but didn't want to inflict a name that was destined to be ever mispronounced. That knocked out quite a lot of names for my daughter so eventually we settled on an obscure Welsh name, very pretty and most importantly the correct spelling is pronounced exactly as you'd expect in both Welsh and English.

She still gets some entertaining variations though - and ironically we usually have to spell it out in Wales!

nonline · 15/06/2016 14:20

I love seeing my OH's new school register each year - especially when there are girls and boys with different (wrong) spellings of the same name.

I don't really understand it - fine you want to give your kid an unusual name, but give them an unusual name, not s stupid spelling of an actually quite common name. Those of us that can spell just get confused.

We picked a short, easy, unusual-but-recognisable name for dd, and have been asked how to spell it. I genuinely cringe at the possibilities going through the head of those asking.

SoupDragon · 15/06/2016 14:33

but your lying

you're

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 15/06/2016 14:33

A pregnant work colleague was telling me the names they liked for the baby.

She said they like Bobby if it's a boy but don't know whether it's better spelt Bobbie. Confused

KoalaDownUnder · 15/06/2016 14:43

Surely Jorja is not pronounced the same as Georgia in whichever European country it is used, though?
