Cheeky Amazon prime!

Dh went to order a DVD Friday and selected the next day delivery as it was supposed to be a surprise treat for me.

He didn't know we had already used our 30 day free trial and no where did it say you will be billed £79 until after he pressed pay now.

Amazon then tried to take the £79 immediately. Luckily he spotted it and cancelled the order but now we have to wait a few days for the bank to clear it and have it returned.

This is naughty of Amazon really isn't it? If it had said before he clicked you have used your free trial and would there fore re-sign you up at a charge of £79 he wouldn't have clicked it in the first place!

I think you have to pay it in one go. I ended up with Prime 3 years ago as I forgot to end it after the free trial. Very unlike me, I'm normally very organised. Best oversight I ever made. Once I got over the shock of the £79 charge, I decided to get amongst the TV offerings, discovered the Walking Dead and never looked back. Then they brought out the Fire Stick. Wonderful. But, I don't pay for Sky, Netflix, Virgin TV or whatever, so to me £7 ish a month is a very reasonable way of getting a load of box sets and films. Plus the postage, obvs.

'JUST CANCEL YOUR PRIME OP'!!

This reminds me so much of the thread about cancelling the cheque Grin

Op I do think the error is on the part of dh and not amazon, however if it's any consolation, I have heard of lots of people getting caught out - I am sure it was even on watchdog?? I do think though that it's mega important to read things carefully when shopping online.

As for the joint accounts - we have all that too, I had no idea mumsnetters would find it so strange Grin It works for us though so that's all that matters!

There is a monthly payment option now but it works out more expensive than paying £79 in one go

The monthly one is great if you only want Prime for a month though - I used it for our family "birthday month" and it was the same price as one next-day delivery.

JessieMcJessie · 14/06/2016 08:44

Surely the problem here is that he left buying your present so late he had to use the next day delivery option!

NeedACleverNN · 14/06/2016 08:46

Well it wasn't a present anyway.

It was just a random treat..
