Euro 16 - they should ban the countries involved in fighting

Having watched the news the past few nights it's seems clear some fans have just gone to France to cause trouble.

Yes the English fans were attacked/provocted today however they were very much the instigators yesterday.

Surely Russian, France and England football teams should be disqualified from the tournament. Same goes for any other teams who's fans cause trouble.

At least 1 England fan is seriously injured potential life threatening. I've seen footage of Russian fans stamping on English fans, throwing chairs. Water cannons, tear gas. Enough is enough, it's only football.

You wonder whether the way some England fans behave at most tournaments affects the players. England are the perennial underachievers, I wonder if the fans' behaviour plays its part - it's an necessary distraction. 1996 was at home and they go the semis - home advantage for sure, but also keeping the thugs under control. Admittedly they also got to the semis at Italia 90.

But otherwise (other than in 1966), they've never done very well.

Sorry I meant an UNnecessary distraction!

Sunnymeg · 16/06/2016 10:15

There was an interesting piece on Today on Radio 4 this morning Hooligans saying off the record that they had gone to France so that the English and Welsh could have a fight on neutral ground. On arrival they found that the Russians were after both nationalities, so the English and Welsh hooligans have now joined together to fight the Russians.

I've got to admit that after the latest scenes in Lille last night I've lost patience. I mean I still believe the French policing tactics are unnecessarily inflammatory and have a big role to play, but I do find it hard to sympathise with loutish drunken behaviour, stupid inflammatory chants etc. If you're going to go abroad, get pissed up and become lairy and obnoxious, it's kind of no surprise people react badly to it. I feel desperately sorry for the many innocents caught up in it (including one English father who was seen carrying his frightened and sobbing 6yo son through the streets) but am getting to the point where I too am seriously wondering whether kicking England out of the tournament would be a good thing. On the basis of recent behaviour we should at least be slapped with a suspended dismissal, the same as Russia. Dh was even saying last night that he's on the cusp of turning his back on international football altogether - England always flatter to deceive both on and off the pitch. Our local clubs are small clubs with well behaved supporters who enjoy watching the game, as we continue to. As things stand, neither of us will be wearing an England shirt when we holiday in France in August because, even without the violence, our drunken yobs are a humiliating embarrassment to our nation and I don't feel particularly proud to be English right now. I've changed my mind considerably based on recent media reports - we're doing ourselves no favours.

I think all countries fans involved in fighting should be thrown out.

So England, Russia and even France, as their have been locals involved in the fights, aswell as other countries in other groups that have also had trouble.

If 6 or 7 teams are thrown out it might make people start to take notice.

I found think the French policing of it needs to be looked at though as does Russia holding the WC.

*An article by John McTernan a Labour Party advisor (I think that is his title. Not sure if he still is) on his sons experience and his two friends being kicked unconscious by Russian 'ultras'.

What a chilling article Wasps. I hope his son and friends are now ok.

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 16/06/2016 13:26

The sooner England are out of it the better. Disgraceful behaviour from so many fans.

namechangeparents · 16/06/2016 13:54

I'm not sure that Eng;and need to be thrown out as I'm sure they'll be out after the group stage. But I hope they will be.

Come on Wales - win the match and put it more or less beyond doubt.

CoolforKittyCats · 16/06/2016 13:59

I really do think that they need to look at Russia having the WC in 2018.

I seriously fear as to what could happen.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/06/2016 14:01

Probably too late in the day to do anything about WC 2018. But if I was an England fan I don't think I'd be in a hurry to attend! To be honest, I'd be reluctant to go as a fan of any nation.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/06/2016 14:04

And as for WC 2022 in Qatar. Fuck that shit!

NeckguardUnbespoke · 16/06/2016 14:21

I seriously fear as to what could happen.

If people go to Russia with the intent of getting drunk and starting fights, then it's no-one's problem but theirs. No-one is forcing them to go, no-one is forcing them to get drunk and no-one is forcing them to start throwing things at the police. They'll get shot if they do that in Moscow. The world's tiniest violin will play.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/06/2016 14:26

Er, but what about the Russians in Russia who are intent on starring fights?

NeckguardUnbespoke · 16/06/2016 14:34

Er, but what about the Russians in Russia who are intent on starring fights?

Fairly easy to avoid that problem.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/06/2016 14:37

Yes by not going to Russia. Which is why it's a shame the World Cup is being held there.

LittleLionMansMummy · 16/06/2016 14:41

Russia will probably piss off the world enough in areas other than sport before then, resulting in boycott anyway....

derxa · 16/06/2016 14:44

Gooooooooooal

LittleLionMansMummy · 16/06/2016 14:48

Hell I'm almost celebrating with Wales right now...

derxa · 16/06/2016 14:53

Sorry Blush

LittleLionMansMummy · 16/06/2016 15:16

Goooooaaaaal!!!! Grin

petitpois55 · 16/06/2016 16:57

Well the rampaging English Fans last night, couldn't blame the Russians. By all accounts they were targeting the French police. I think live bullets would have been better than tear gas myself. I thought the French police were supposed to be toughSmile
I expect there will be more of the same this evening..

derxa · 16/06/2016 17:07

England were too strong LittleLion
