To think that Noel Edmonds might just..

..have something there. Not all of his twaddle, but the bit about dying.

I'm not a scientist or a weirdo, but it seems to be an indisputable fact that energy can't cease to exist. And we are made from energy. Our eyes, hearts, livers, the house we live in, the toilet roll we use, the cat litter (which needs cleaning, oops) - their fundamental forms all are energy. Electrons, protons neutrons.

So..

"Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; rather, it transforms from one form to another"

So whilst we may stop living in the traditional sense, our energy doesn't.

(I might add I'm not a hippie/druggie/troller/religious fanatic, or particularly sentimental)

Can anyone give me a point of view?

I feel daft talking about it in real life. And I think I might feel a bit dafter after posting this Blush

Love this thread.

Don't know NE personally so shouldn't be mean - but....

When your hear the words of a educated and studied scientist you can be floored by the things you hear ( well maybe that's just me). When you see a medical Dr saving lives you can feel utterly humbled.

When you hear some one who is none of the above presuming they know better than the above - you just think "what a cock"

Noel Edmonds has gone a tad David Icke lately. Did anyone see him on This Morning discussing his OW stalker?

Zaurak · 10/06/2016 13:25

He has some interesting delusions. Mainly harmless but the negative energy:cancer this is hooey

The concept of entropy is things tending towards disorder. Think of your headphones in your handbag. Every time they move and cross they can knot- technically a knitted pair can get unknotted but there's a bazillion ways of being knotted and only one path back to being unknotted.

The energy in the universe is only useful if it's lumpy - there has to be a diffrrence in energy levels for the energy to do work
Eventually, the theory is that it'll all even out. The stars, currently hotter than their surroundings will eventually go dark and cold and the whole universe will be at the same temperature- because there are no more energy gradients no more action can happen. It's a bit like the concept of ragnarok. The heat death of the universe.

As to whether information can be destroyed well that's a whole other kettle of gerbils. Hawking has been having a debate about this (whether black holes destroy information) and it's fascinating shit.

I look forwards to Noel Edmonds being corresponding author on Kip Thorne's next paper. Or not, as the case may be.

Mumsnet really is wonderful isn't it? This week I've had advice on baby sleep, paracetamol suppositories and now Musings on the inner workings of the universe.

If anyone's interested.

Glad I found this thread, love reading this stuff.

I came across something a while ago, that was interesting, but haven't heard anything since.

It was about someone who had recorded weight upon death. They found at the moment of death(or just after can't remember which) the body lost a tiny amount of weight. But why?

I shall see if I can find any refs to it.

IfTheCapFitsWearIt · 10/06/2016 13:56

Has forget it, just googled, it's bullshit, even a film called 21 grams or something.

juststoppit · 11/06/2016 14:57

IfTheCapFits..

Maybe there is something to that, silly as it may sound. Just pondering. Apparently, the Internet weighs about as much as a strawberry, yet what is it made of?!

Mmmm..

The pp's theoretical analogy of the print in a book was a good one.

Thanks all for the replies.

And no, I'm not on glue thank you for asking! Smile
