About huns?

I'm fully prepared to be told that I am VU/a snob/a fucking cunting bastard etc.

Fully prepared.

But more and more and more since the recent DM shite I've noticed 'hun'ing creeping into over half the threads I click on.

It makes my teeth itch. I always want to say something but I don't want to be that arsehole.

I don't know why it annoys me. I'm not a snob so it's not that. It's just so bloody twee.

OP posts:
PirateFairy45 · 07/06/2016 21:26

Oh Hun. Don't stress about it

Sorry. Couldn't resist... Grin

EnidButton · 07/06/2016 21:26

And whilst we're here I can't stand the word kiddies either. Although I realise that's probably just me.

NoMudNoLotus · 07/06/2016 21:28

I hate LOL. And Hun.

DuckAndPancakes · 07/06/2016 21:28

People that have their occupation as

"Manager @ full time mummy"

Biscuit
EnidButton · 07/06/2016 21:29

Or put 'wife' in their Twitter/Instagram bio.

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 07/06/2016 21:30

I don't think it's just 'hun'. I've been here since Adam was a boy, but I had a break because it was seriously doing my head in. I miss how it used to be, it feels like Mumsnet has merged with 'the other lot' now. There are rarely any decent debates, people don't read threads, they clearly barely read the OP given the questions they ask! AIBU to let my 3 year old do xyz... Ah Hun, how old is your DS? FFS. Comprehension levels are at an all time low, there's been an infestation of the hard of thinking. Being 'offended' is at an all time high. It's horrible the vast majority of the time. I was considering another break, probably of the permanent variety, but then someone posts something 'old Mumsnet' and I'm hooked again.

Hotel California.

I will confess my sins though. I do love emoticons, I do use the ones I can click on and I do xx but only on Relationship threads/bereavement/child/DH in hospital type threads, not at the end of every post!

Maybe we need a chat thread where we can set the rules 😁

purplebud · 07/06/2016 21:30

I use 'poppet' for random small children (I am a lunchtime supervisor) is that okay?

Creatureofthenight · 07/06/2016 21:32

YANBU. But 'hunni' is even worse than 'hun'. Same number of letters as honey, just fucking type honey. Well, don't, obviously, but you know what I mean.

ThatStewie · 07/06/2016 21:33

I'm not a fan of twee nicknames for strangers. Much less enthusiastic about referring to Germans as 'Huns' what with not being a fan of racism.

FunnysInLaJardin · 07/06/2016 21:34

its an awful word and should never ever be used. My FB page is full of R U OK Huns.

BTW R U OK Hun?

Notso · 07/06/2016 21:34

Lenor for letters brilliant

ABCAlwaysBeCunting · 07/06/2016 21:37

'Feeling blessed'

DuckAndPancakes · 07/06/2016 21:50

Ugh I hate 'lovely' too. "Ok my lovely", no, fuck off!

I like emojis. It's easier to use them from my tablet than bugger about changing the keyboard, using the [ ] and typing a word. I can just got 😊😀😁😂😃😄😅😆😯😠😡😮😧😩😟 instead. So easy. Grin

SemiNormal · 07/06/2016 22:00

Hun doesn't bother me so much but I don't use it. I really really hate the term 'preemie' though, it makes me want to scream for some reason - completely irrational I know. My son was premature so people would sometimes say he was a preemie and it really grated on me.

Tatiana11235 · 07/06/2016 22:01

Just to throw in a little observation. I'm foreign and when I came to NW England ten years ago my mind just could not fathom why would complete strangers call each other 'love' Confused I am used to it now.

Hun, however, is a no-no. No. Just no. You don't fucking know me so fuck the fuck off.

There is a woman that calls me 'lovely' all the time. I know she probably doesn't mean it but it make me feel nice Blush in my defence I don't get many complements otherwise

RaskolnikovsGarret · 07/06/2016 22:02

YANBU

I hate:

Hun
Hubby
Mummy
Little man
My boy
My girl
Princess
Aw and
Aww

But I am aware that those who use the above are probably much nicer people/more at peace with life than me.

jonsnowssocks · 07/06/2016 22:05

It's even worse when people put xxx in the middle of their message. Aww hun that sounds great xxx can't wait to meet you're little man xxx bye hun xxx

SilverBirchWithout · 07/06/2016 22:06

My tip is never to be nice or needy enough to inspire someone to call me Hun. I'm happy to maintain an online persona that encourages people to call me a Cunt.

I think we need to step in sharpish whenever Hun, lol or X is used.

glasgowlass · 07/06/2016 22:08

Here in the west of Scotland, Glasgow in particular, a Hun is a very derogatory name for a protestant (mostly directed at Rangers fans even though not all fans are protestant). It's used as a slur, not as a term of endearment.

UmbongoUnchained · 07/06/2016 22:09

missrabbit

That can't be as annoying as my husband who ends every text with HIS NAME.

Thanks husband, I had indeed forgotten who you were.

jonsnowssocks · 07/06/2016 22:09

Also, I call my dog my beautiful princess but completely ironically as she is built like a brick shit house and throws herself around like Sebastien Chabal. Maybe I should just call her hun and have done with it Hmm

PolaroidsFromTheBeyond · 07/06/2016 22:13

A girl who goes to Brownies with DD is called Hunnie. Her actual name not a nickname. Would it be acceptable to call her Hun? .

Madamsecretary · 07/06/2016 22:15

I've noticed two things that make me want to perpetrate violent acts recently:

a) "luff" instead of "love"
b) nomnomnom.

What is WRONG with these people?!
