About huns?

I'm fully prepared to be told that I am VU/a snob/a fucking cunting bastard etc.

Fully prepared.

But more and more and more since the recent DM shite I've noticed 'hun'ing creeping into over half the threads I click on.

It makes my teeth itch. I always want to say something but I don't want to be that arsehole.

I don't know why it annoys me. I'm not a snob so it's not that. It's just so bloody twee.

It is not used to 'soften a sentence' - what on earth does that mean? Like Lenor for Letters? It's used by lazy people who don't know or care what your name is and is rendered meaningless because of this. How can someone you don't know (and likely don't want to know) be addressed as 'hun'?

UmbongoUnchained · 07/06/2016 20:13

And calling me a cunt is not at all the same as calling someone Hun.

Queenbean · 07/06/2016 20:14

We have agreed on lots on previous threads WellErr. And I agree with you on huns.

But the phrase "makes my teeth itch" is just about as bad. Actually, worse than hunning.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 07/06/2016 20:14

Ah no, it's lil' man, Crisps.

Even better.

PolaroidsFromTheBeyond · 07/06/2016 20:15

It's fucking awful.

MN used to be one of the few places on the Internet where hun, xxxxxx and text speak weren't ubiquitous. I hate to see it creeping in.

WellErrr · 07/06/2016 20:15

It's a term of endearment in Wales or NZ. It's just a word, what's the problem?

OP posts:
UmbongoUnchained · 07/06/2016 20:16

I'm sure when people call you a cunt it's not at all meant as a term of endearment. Love.

Sparklingbrook · 07/06/2016 20:16

'Lil man'

As in 'Hi hun how are your hubby and your lil man'.

Hmm
WellErrr · 07/06/2016 20:16

Dnt be a hater hun xx

OP posts:
Passmethecrisps · 07/06/2016 20:17

I was once greeted by an aunt with "aw hullo, crisp. How's yer auld cunt?"

I was about 20yo. I think I replied with "oh, it's fine thanks Aunty. How's yours?"

Outs self totally

TangledUpInGin · 07/06/2016 20:18

I met someone at the weekend and she was huntastic- literally every other word....

Do you want a coffee Hun? are you sure Hun? Milk Hun? Sugar Hun?? Ah Hun it's hot, be careful Hun......Hmm

MoltoIncazzata · 07/06/2016 20:18

Pass Grin - that's tickled me! Grin

Sparklingbrook · 07/06/2016 20:20

My least favourite RL word at the moment is 'like'. The teens are always doing it. Like as every other word, like. Angry

I might lol but never rofl.

NeedACleverNN · 07/06/2016 20:23

I have seen an increase in huns on here. Along with "hello mummies and mummies-to-be"

I hate it

CottonSock · 07/06/2016 20:24

Do all you lot see the 'huns' as a purely class thing? Or is it regional? Or a term for the young?
In other words, who are the huns?

thatorchidmoment · 07/06/2016 20:24

I have a friend who wishes her 'hubby' well repeatedly on Facebook. She calls him 'Hunni' (not his name Grin). Their children are referred to as precious, blessings, lil', bubz, and prince/princess.

My sister and her DH call each other 'babes'.

I need both new friends and family, don't I?

littledrummergirl · 07/06/2016 20:24

Yanbu. I thought Huns and their ilk were banned on Mn. One of the reasons I like it. I think they and the posters who use them should fottfsofawtgtfosm. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 07/06/2016 20:25

I think hun is used a lot by teen girls from what I have seen on FB. I would never say it, and my Mum certainly wouldn't.

WellErrr · 07/06/2016 20:25

In other words, who are the huns?

People who say 'hun.'

OP posts:
MildlyattractiveBetty · 07/06/2016 20:26

YANBU - more huns, more domestic violence apologists, more trolls, more misogynistic opinions. Bleurghhhh.

WellErrr · 07/06/2016 20:26

And they could be anyone.

there could be one here right now....

OP posts:
Feeches · 07/06/2016 20:27

"Hun" means something else entirely in Scottish football vernacular. A very naughty word indeed.

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 07/06/2016 20:27

I must be a miserable cow, but I completely agree with you OP. The following can fuck off:

  1. hun
  2. lol
  3. xx
  4. excessive emoticons
  5. hubby/hubs etc
  6. bubba/bubs etc for baby
  7. text speak
  8. numbered lists

Cunting bollocks!
